专业英语结课报告 姓名: 张 程 班级:09电信本1班 学号: 2 5 日期: 2012. 12. 2 Message Communication an Its Advantages Message communication can be more efficient than verbal communication in several ways. Anyone spent half a day dialing a number and only busy signals knows one of the ways: with message communication, both parties need not be simultaneously available for communication to take place. The message can be prepared at the originator's convenience, sent, and then read at the receiver's convenience. This improves worker efficiency. An interesting and unexpected benefit occurs, however, when the two stations are in different time zones. Here massage communication can actually be faster than the telephone. Consider time the situation where a San Francisco-based office must send an important message to a London location. If sent in the afternoon, the massage arrive after the London office has closed for the day. However, that urgent message is immediately avilable in London at the start of their next working day.,long before the San Francisco office reopens. If the telephone had been used to relay this message,it would not be recieved untill the San Francisco office opened on the next day, nearly half a day later than with the message delivery method. Realistically, message communication may be the only reasonable alternative between areas whose working hours may not overlap at all. Anther way in which message communication is more efficient is that it force the originator to clarify and refine thoughts. Often,a person who starts to organize and write down a message sees holes or inconsistencies in logic that can be rethought and corrected;with the telephone, these problems are not discovered immediately. This can lead to further calls to clear up errors. Moreover, message communication is general less expensive than verbal communication, even beyond the saving afforded by its efficiency. Long-distance phone charges can be slashed by communication via electronic mail on a message basis. With electronic message delivery over existing phone lines, the same amount of data can easily be transmitted 20 times(or 40 times)faster than in verbal communication. This assumes the use of a 1200 b/s(or 2400-b/s) modem, which transmits 1200(or2400) words per minute as compared to a verbal conversationrate of 60 words per minute. Another consideration is that message can be bathed;that is,they can be gathered together and sent on one call. This allows several short message to be placed together so that the minimum call length on long-distance calls is not a factor. Also,lower-priority message can be saved for overnight delievery to take advantage of lower rates. Information is usually clearer and easier to understand when it is written. Where large amounts of information are concerned ,message communication is the only practical method. Verbal communication is expensive in long-distance communication and very error prone. Message communication can easily be kept for reference;verbal communication is often forgotten. Message preparation involves putting the message into machine readable format that can be sent as data. The term data refers to some kind of information in the form of machine language. Data can be obtained from punched cards, paper tapes, magnetic tapes, disks, computer memories,or directly from machines. The term data transmission refers to electrical transmission of data from one point to another. A data communication link can be defined as a path for electrical transmission between two or more stations or terminals, and it may contain a single wire,a group of wires, a coaxial cable,a special part of the radio-frequency spectrum,or an optical-fiber cable.Electronic and information engineering is the application of the computer and modem technology for electronic information control and information processing the discipline, the main research information acquisition and processing, electronic equipment and information system design, development, application and integration. Now, electronic and information engineering has covered many aspects of the society, like telephone exchange station how to deal with various phone signal, a mobile phone is how to transfer our voice even image, the network around us how to transfer data, and even of the army of the information age how to confidential information
