However, it’s a pity that they couldn’t enjoy a happy life just as we do.

Teaching procedures:
Pre-listening
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Introduce each other.
2. Talk about a film named Schindler’s list and teach some new words.
3. Students enjoy a small part of the film.
4. Talk about a book named The Diary of a Young Girl.

While-listening
Step 2 Task1: Listen and fill in the blanks
1. Look through the passage in Part A1 and predict the answers.
2. Listen and fill in the blanks.
3. Listen again and check the answers.
4. Students present their answers.
5. Read the passage together and answer a question: Why do so many
people like reading the diary?

Step 3 Task 2 : Listen and complete the timeline.
1. Look through the timeline in Part A2 and predict the answers.
2. Listen and complete the timeline.
3. Students present their answers.

Step 4 Task3 : Complete the article
1. Complete the article in PartA3.
2. Check the answers by reading the article together.

Post-listening
Step 5 Task4 : Students retell the story of the diary

Step 6 Part B: Listen and read
1. Listen to the conversation and answer two questions
2. Practise the conversation together.
3. Answer more questions
4. Tell students how to talk about a book or a film about war.
Step 7 Task5: Talk about the films about the Anti-Japanese War
1. Introduce three films about the Anti-Japanese War.
2. Students talk about two of the three films using Simon and Millie’s
conversation as a model.
