We have carefully studied your letter of Dec.14th. As our two firms have done bus in ess with each other for so many years, we should like grant your request to lower the prices of our un derwear. But there are difficulties. Our cost of raw materials has rise n sharply in the past three mon ths and to reduce prices by 5% you men ti oned could not be done without con siderably loweri ng our sta ndards of quality. This is someth ing we are not prepared to do. I nstead of 5% reducti on on un derwear , we suggest a reducti on of 3% on all li nes. On orders of this size we could man age to make the reducti on without loweri ng our sta ndards.

We hope you will agree to our coun ter-suggesti on and we look forward to receivi ng orders from you as in the past.
