1.【叙述性诡计】所谓叙述性诡计，是作者利用文章结构或文字技巧，把某些事实如“凶手的名字”和“行凶的动机”，也可能只是“凶手的真正性别”，“被害者的真正职业”等等刻意地对读者隐瞒或误导，直到最后才揭露出真相(可说是一种玩弄文字的欺骗读者)，让读者感受难以形容的惊愕感。
叙述性诡计为作者利用读者先入为主的观念，使读者「相信」某件事情或某种状况，最后造成读者大吃一惊的一种结果。
此为一种不易掌控的技巧，太过超过易造成读者的反弹或两极化批评——感到被骗了，或有人形容「想摔书」。
但是使用得当、并且读者可以接受的话，是一种很能造成意外性的技巧。
【优缺点】优点：推理小说，重点总是放在“Whodunit(谁是凶手)”或“Howdunit(怎样犯案)”等情节上，虽然谜团的设计各有不同，难易的程度也各异，但整体来说，读者的推理进程基本与故事中的侦探同步。
然而，以叙述性诡计为主的推理小说，作者于字里行间安排伏线欺骗读者，把真相巧妙地隐藏起来，诡计并非甚么凶手为了逃避侦探的追查而出现，也并不是与读者毫无关连的设计，那是作者与读者之间一场真正的对决，而即使读者果然被骗倒的话，还可以从另一个角度把故事重新再读一遍，那也是一种独特的享受哦。
缺点：然而，以叙述性诡计为主的推理小说还是有其先天性的缺点。
首先，由于诡计重点并不在于案情推理，所以有部份作品的故事编排较为平铺直叙，读起来可能会稍觉沉闷，或许在到达终点之前，便早已错误地把它看成是一部无聊的劣等作品而丢掉。
其次，由于诡计的性质特殊，一般来说“叙述性诡计的使用”本身也是一项不能让读者预先知道的秘密，所以对于这类型小说的推介，也存在一定的障碍。
