Walking around there makes me feel like a prince or princess from long ago!As well as all the historical sights, Xuzhou is a pretty modern and developed city too. We have huge shopping malls, towering skyscrapers, nice parks and public spaces. My favorite is Quanshan Park which has a massive artificial lake for boating and some amazing flower gardens. The gardeners make incredible displays with patterned flowerbeds - I've seen ones shaped like dragons, peacocks and even the Terra Cotta warriors!One thing that makes Xuzhou really unique is that it's home to some very distinct local cultures and traditions. Every year there are big festivals where artisans show off their skills. I love watching the mud toy makers - they can craft the most intricate little figurines out of plain mud!Food is another Huaixi specialty. We have our own distinct local cuisine influenced by ancient royal court dishes as well asmore rustic farmer's food. My favorite is a hearty lamb stew called Xi'an yangrou. It has the most tongue-tingling flavor from all the different spices. Isn't that neat?Even though Xuzhou is a seriously old city, it's still a vibrant and modern place today with over 8 million people living there. The weather is pretty mild – not too hot and not too cold. We get 4 distinct seasons which I love! Spring is beautiful when all the flowers bloom. Summer can get kinda warm and humid but that's perfect weather for swimming. Fall is crisp and the leaves change the most amazing colors like red, orange and yellow.
