(A couple waiting to be seated in a crowded restaurant)
A: Do you have a reservation, sir?
B: No, I am afraid l don't.
A: I'm sorry. The restaurant is full now. You have to wait for about half an hour. Would you care to have a drink at the lounge until a table is availab le?
B: No, thanks. I'll come back later. May I reserve a table for one?
A: Yes, of course. May I have your name, sir?
B: Smith. By the way, can l have a table by the window?
A: We'll try to arrange it but I can't guarantee, sir.
B: That’s fine.
(Half an hour later, he comes back.)
A: Your table is ready, sir. Please step this way.
B: Can l see the menu, please?
A: Here you are.
B: What’s good today?
A: I recommand roast steak.
B: I don't want that. Well, perhaps I'll begin with mushroom soup, and fol low by fried lamb and mashed potato.
A: How would you like it cooked?
B: Medium.
A: Which flavor do you want, sir?
B: I want lamb cooked with pepper and saladoil.
A: Do you want any dessert?
B: No dessert, thanks. Just coffee.
(After a few minutes.)
B: I can have the check, please. Do you accept credit card? A: Certainly, sir.
B: May I have a receipt, please?
A: Of course.
