冰壶运动可以追溯到苏格兰中世纪（《牛津英语大辞典》中对curling这个词汇的最早引用可追溯至1638年），现在的形式是一个相对较新的现象。
虽然早在1924年，冰壶运动曾作为表演项目出现在冬季奥运会，但直到1988年的长野冬奥会它才作为正式冬奥会项目。
如同其他运动一样，冰壶运动有属于自己的专属词汇，希望帮助您理解与冰壶运动（curling）相关的语言：1.curling-stone（或 rock）（冰壶，冰壶石，名词）冰壶运动中投掷的冰壶石。

奥运会常用英语术语及句子2008年，奥运会将在北京举行。
作为中国人，我们都想对奥运会有一个更全面的了解，尤其是怎么用英语表达，我想通过一些常用的术语以及句子来增强对它的了解。

To jump the gun也是“抢跑”的意思。

而“被淘汰出局”用得是be sent packing。
“淘汰出局”还可以用“beout”或“eliminate”来表达；而elimination game 就是“淘汰赛”。
“打破记录”在英语中有多种表达方式。
常见的是break the record,报道中提到的record-breaking 149kg，record-breaking形容词，破记录的（成绩）。
类似的表达还有shatter the mark，smash the record。
“加时赛”就是overtime,简称OT，“在加时赛中”就是in the overtime。
另外，extra-time也可以用来表示“加时赛”的意思；而比赛的“常规时段”就可以用regular time来表示。
“取消某人参赛资格”就是strip someone of one’s Games accreditation。
Strip也可以用deprive这个词来代替。
以此类推，“剥夺某人某物”就是strip someone of something。
Medal tally就是“奖牌榜”，另外，“奖牌榜”还有一些其它的表达方法，常见的有medal table 和medal count。
