2017年秋高三(A)英语作业(18)阅读理解AWikipedia is a free-access, free content Internet encyclopedia(百科全书), supported and hosted by the non-profit Wikipedia Foundation. Wikipedia is ranked among the ten most popular websites and is consider ed the Internet’s largest and most popular general reference book. Now, Wikipedia is becoming Wookiepedia as scientists hope the informative website will help us reach out to intelligent life forms. So aliens can learn about the human race.Astronomers would like to beam (播送) the entire contents of Wikipedia into space in the hope of contacting aliens. They want to send messages to hundreds of star systems and planets 20 light years away using radio telescopes. The Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute, in California, wants to use powerful radio telescopes to try to reach Chewbacca and his mates in a galaxy(银河系)far away. The plans will be discussed by astronomers at the weekend as some scientists fear the reply from ET might not turn out to be friendly. Institute scientist David Black said, “One question is if there are dangerous creatures we might be drawing their attention to ourselves. Another is if we go ahead, what message should be sent? There could be many civilizations out there, but if they are all listening and no one is broadcasting or responding, then nothing will happen.”Professor Stephen Hawking, who has warned that intelligent aliens probably exist and we should keep a safe distance from them, is among those. “If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America which didn’t turn out well for the Native Americans,” he said.Signals from Earth’s radio and TV broadcasts have been heading out in space for some 60 years reaching around 5,000 stars.56. What does the underlined word those in the fourth paragraph refer to?A. aliens from spaceB. astronomers sending signalsC. scientists for the plansD. scientists against the plans57. Which can be the best title?A. Wikipedia, the most popular websiteB. Wikipedia to be beamed into spaceC. Wikipedia, aliens’ best friendD. Wikipedia to result in a disaster BWe observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom, symbolizing an end as well as a beginning, signifying renewal as well as change for I have sworn before you and Almighty God the same solemn oath our forebears (ancestors) prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.The world is very different now, for man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life. And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe, the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state but from the hand of God. We dare not forget today that we are the heirs(继承人)of that first revolution.Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe (enemy) alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.Let every nation know whether it wishes us well or ill that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, toassure the survival and the success of liberty. This much we pledge (promise solemny) and more.In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility. I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the Freedom of Man.Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God’s work must truly be our own.59. What should friends and foes know?A. That the United States is powerful.B. That a new generation of Americans are responsible for their government.C. That the United States is governed by liberals.D. The rights of man come from the hand of God.60. What is Kennedy’s promise to the world?A. To support liberty.B. To abolish all forms of human poverty.C. To visit each country at least once.D. To support and friend.61. What should citizens of the world ask of America?A. How America can help them.B. If America plans to invade their country.C. What they can do for freedom.D. What they can do for America.62. Which of the following statement is NOT true according to the passage?A. Human beings have the power to put an end to all forms of poverty.B. We should remember we are the first revolution.C. Our nation has always been committed to human rights.D. But based on new recommendations, adults who are 60 or older can wait until their readings reach 150 over 90 or above to begin medication. After reviewing available evidence on the effects of blood pressure treatments, the Institute of Medicine’s Eighth Joint National Committee (JNC 8) concluded that aggressive treatment can lead to lightheadedness, falls and fainting in elderly populations — so they advised loosening the guidelines for starting medication. But days after the guidelines were published, heart experts raised concerns about how the advice would affect patients; inadequately controlled blood pressure is a risk factor for heart attack and stroke.Members of the JNC8 who voted against the recommendations published an editorial in the Annals of Internal Medicine outlining their reasons for opposing the change. “We, the panel minority, believed that evidence was insufficient to increase the target goal from its current level because increasing the goal may cause harm by increasing the risk for CVD(心血管疾病)and partially undoing the remarkable progress in reducing cardiovascular mortality in Americans older than 60,” they wrote.Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum said she has not changed the way she treats her patients over 60. She says, “As a preventive cardiologist(心脏病学家), these new guidelines have made me crazy. What we have learned is that blood pressure treatment even for a patient above 80 has been shown to be critical. It goes against everything we know as cardiologists.”Defending the panel’s decision, Dr.Paul A. James, co-chairman of the guidelines committee, said in an email to TIME, “I can assure you that the panel discussed the opinions of the minority members on three different occasions and the majority were not persuaded that the expert skills of a few members should override the scientific evidence.”James said that as with any medications, doctors will use the blood pressure recommendations as guidelines, and prescribe drugs based on their evaluation of each patient. “Medications prescribed by physicians all have the potential to be dangerous,”he wrote. “Educating doctors about the scientific evidence will help doctors make better decisions with patients. Physicians who practice on the basis of scientific evidence usually subscribe to simple rule — if the medicine cannot be shown to help the patient, then the medicine should not be prescribed.”The editorial isn’t likely to change them any time soon. But the concerns should urge doctors to monitor their patients more closely and tailor medications and their doses more carefully.2017年秋高三(A)英语作业(20)参考答案单项填空21-25 DDCBA 26-30 DDACA 31-35 CBDDA完形填空36-40 BDCDB 41-45 CACDB 46-50 AADCB 51-55 ABABC任务型阅读81. aggressive 82.recommended 83.Opposition 84.risk ck 86.unreasonable 87.convincing cating 89.rule90.careful/responsible。

One suffering from this problem may find relief in the fact that it isn’t actually a disease or even an “official” disorder. It’s the continued lack of organization in one’s life.Someone may become addicted to collecting a certain thing yet never organize the collection as it grows out of control. This can especially be a problem for those with a lot of time and money at hand, yet the problem can be serious for any type of person in a wide variety of situations. One’s personal attitude can often be a big part of why the chronic disorganization exists. Once the attitude of acceptance about being a “slob” isin someone’s head, it’s hard to remove. If someone tells himself that he is a slob, he will likely live up to that self-image created by him or by those around him.One first receives true awareness of the disorder of chronic disorganization when it starts to negatively affect relationships with friends and family members. Everybody becomes affected by this situation, especially those sharing living places with the one involved. The National Study Group for Chronic Disorganization (HSGCD) recommends that one get help through a professional organizer. The study found that all of the subjects in the study had problems with making decisions. There were varied reasons given for this problem of decision-making. Among them were fears and prioritizing issues. Research is ongoing for the link between problems in decision-making and chronic disorganization.Chronic disorganization often begins with situational disorganization, something most people experience at some point. Someone who has lost someone significant to him may start to be troubled by disorganization after a divorce. Someone who experienced changes in life and in his career may intend to let things like organization and order fall by the wayside. However, one doesn’t instantly have chronic disorganization.“If you’re going through hell, keep going.” That’s an old saying that’s true about one’s struggles with chronic disorganization. Every person has the power to change within himself. It’s a matter of staying organized, one day at a time. Those who have left chronic disorganization in the past have often done so by promising to stay organized simply for that single day.Definition It means that the person has a(n) (71) __________ of beingdisorganized in life and business over a long period.(72)________the problem ●One example is that an addict (73 ) ___________ to organize the collection.●The (74) ___________ of chronic disorganization is partly affected by one’s personal attitude.●One doesn’t realize the disorder of chronic disorganization until it has (75) ____________ effects on the relationships with friends and family members. The (76) _________ of the study All subjects in the study suffer from the problem of poor decision-making, which is (77) _____________ with chronic disorganization.Warning (78)_______ Losing someone significant, (79) _____________ a divorce or changes in one’s life and career.Good news When in (80)_______ with chronic disorganization, every personhas the power to change, at least one single day at a time.2017年秋高三(A)英语作业(17)参考答案第一节单项填空(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分)21-25DACBC 26-30CADDA 31- 35CCCAB第二节:完形填空(共20 小题,每小题1分,满分20分)36---55. However, it wasn’t until her first visit to China that she truly began to appreciate the depth of Chinese culture. One particular experience stood out: her first encounter with the art of Chinese tea.Lily had grown up with the aroma of tea wafting through her home, a legacy of her mother’s Chinese roots. Yet, it was in the ancient teahouses of Hangzhou that she discovered the soul of Chinese tea culture. There, amidst the gentle rustle of bamboo and the soft murmur of conversation, she observed the ritualistic preparation of tea, a process as natural as the flow of the streams she had once explored in the English countryside. Her mother, a connoisseur of Chinese teas, introduced Lily to the subtleties of tasting. Why do certain leaves unfurl to reveal hidden flavors? Which infusions can evoke the essence of a mountain mist or a summer breeze? With each sip, Lily felt a connection to her ancestral home, a bond that transcended language and tradition. The journey of tea from leaf to cup became a metaphor for Lily’s own journey of self-discovery. She decided to embark on a quest to understand the art of tea, to learn how the Chinese have cultivated and cherished this ancient beverage for centuries. She would later refer to this pursuit as her “cultural eco-journey.”The task Lily set for herself was to immerse herself in the tea culture, to experiencefirsthand the process from tea picking to brewing. First, she visited the lush tea gardens of Longjing, where she learned about the meticulous care required for each leaf. Then she traveled to the workshops where artisans crafted the tea, each step a testament to the harmony between human skill and natural bounty. She was captivated by the results. The tea she tasted was not just a drink; it was a story, a history, and a tradition that had been passed down through generations. Within moments, the flavors unfolded on her palate, a testament to the purity and wisdom of Chinese tea culture.Over time, Lily has delved deeper into the world of tea. She has explored the tea ceremonies of various regions, each with its unique customs and significance. She also discovered the therapeutic properties of tea, how it has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to promote health and well-being.“Cultural immersion” is what Lily calls her approach to understanding her heritage. “The world is a treasure trove of experiences for the curious,” she says. “You immerse yourself in new cultures and observe the traditions. Then you let these new insights shape your own understanding of the world.”4.What can we learn about Lily from the first two paragraphs?A.She was curious about her dual heritage.B.She preferred the British lifestyle.C.She had a deep interest in tea.D.She longed to visit China.5.Why did Lily visit the tea gardens and workshops?A.To learn about the tea-making process.B.To find the perfect cup of tea.C.To understand the cultural significance of tea.D.To test her knowledge of Chinese tea.6.What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Longjing?A.To review Lily’s cultural journey.B.To show an application of Lily’s interest in tea.C.To compare different tea regions in China.D.To dispel doubts about the quality of Chinese tea.7.What is the basis for Lily’s cultural exploration?A.The desire to connect with her Chinese roots.B.The belief in the therapeutic properties of tea.C.The fascination with the art of tea preparation.D.The curiosity about the cultural significance of tea.Researchers at MIT created a high-tech pill that starts to vibrate (震动) once it makes contact with liquid in the user’s stomach and make him or her feel full. The pill was reportedly thought up by Shriya Srinivasan, currently an assistant professor of bioengineering at Harvard University.VIBES, short for Vibrating Ingestible BioEleotronic Stimulator, was only recently made public in a study published in the Science Journal, but it is already being announced by the media as the future of weight loss. Although it has yet to be tested on humans, trials on pigs have achieved very hopeful results. After about 30 minutes of VIBES activity, pigs consumed on average almost 40 percent less food in the next half hour than they did without the smart pill. Apparently, the revolutionary device works by activating stretch receptors in the stomach, modeling the presence of food. This in turn signals the hypothalamus (下丘脑) to increase the levels of hormones that make us feel full. The vibrating stimulator, which is about the size of a vitamin pill, is powered by an encased battery and activated either by the gastric fluid (胃液) breaking down a coat around the pill, or by an incorporated timer. After producing the desired effect, the pill exits the body with other solid waste:The good news is that it is expected to have a cost in the cents to one dollar range, and researchers say that it may eventually be possible to implant the stimulator and thus remove the need for people to constantly swallow it.“Our study demonstrates the effectiveness of a low-cost, non-operative intervention to reduce food intake and ca lorie consumption. The device functions effectively in the stomach and leading to fullness,” said Giovanni Traverso, co-author of the study. “The device has the potential to revolutionize options for weight loss treatment. However, future studies will need to explore the physiological effects of the device before it’s available for patients.”Researchers are now exploring ways to scale up the producing of VIBES capsules whichcould enable clinical trials in humans.8.What is the outcome of taking the pill?A.Liquid production.B.Food storage.C.Sensation of fullness.D.Recovery of users.9.Which aspect of the device is mentioned in paragraph 2?A.Its working principle.B.Its intelligence.C.Its testing history.D.Its side effect.10.What is the researchers’ ultimate goal of the device?A.To produce gastric fluid with it.B.To destroy the coat around it.C.To fix it in human body.D.To remove solid waste from it.11.What is Giovanni Traverso’s attitude towards the future of the device?A.Worried.B.Cautious.C.Doubtful.D.Confused.What strategy do you use to make tough life decisions like whether to end a relationship, quit your job, or go back to school? Maybe you weigh the advantages and disadvantages. Maybe you go with your sixth sense. Or maybe, if you’re like most people, you simply do nothing. After all, we have a tendency to prefer the status quo (现状), and focus more on the potential losses involved with change rather than the potential benefits. But here’s a simpler strategy: When you’re indecisive about a big life decision, choose the path of change. That’s the takeaway of research recently published by Steven Levitt, an economist at the University of Chicago. For the study, Levitt asked people who were facing tough decisions to flip (抛) a digital coin on the website . The coin tosses were randomized, with one side representing change, the other status quo. The study asked more than 20,000 participants to make whichever decision the coin toss directed, and then report back on how things played out after two and six months.Of course, not everyone followed through. The two-month survey found that participants chose change less frequently than they had initially predicted they would. After six months, however, this tendency toward inaction disappeared. But most surprising were the results on well-being. At both the two and six-month marks, most people who chose change reported feelinghappier, better off, and that they had made the correct decision. The study had some limitations. One is that its participants weren’t selected randomly. Another limitation is that participants whose decision didn’t play out well might have been less likely to report back on their status after two and six months. Still the study does suggest that people who are on the edge of a tough decision are probably better off going with change. Levitt isn’t suggesting you flip a coin to make all decisions. But coin-flipping does seem to have some benefits. Levitt notes that some people might prefer giving in to their fate to randomness in order to avoid regret. But you can also use randomness a bit more sensibly. When facing a tough decision, you could flip a coin and, upon seeing the outcome, notice whether you feel relief or fright. If you feel relieved, that’s probably the path you should choose.12.What is most people’s priority when making hard choices?A.Valuing potential benefits.B.Calculating potential losses.C.Making a change to the status quo.D.Following inner voice of one’s mind.13.What are the findings of the two surveys?A.More participants remained inactive after six months.B.Making changes brought most participants happiness.C.Participants’ action agreed with their initial prediction.D.All participants gave immediate feedback on their status.14.What is a limitation of the study?A.The insufficiency of study statistics.B.The insensible outcome of the analysis.C.The incorrect method of flipping a coin.D.The randomness of picking study subjects.15.What is the main idea of the passage?A.Coin flips are beneficial to making hard choices.B.A study offers a strategy for making hard decisions.C.When facing a hard decision, choose the status quo.D.A study justifies making hard choices with randomness. While most of us work hard to shine at the presentations and speeches we can prepare for, we may find impromptu (即兴的) communication scary. Actually, you just need to learn specific skills to communicate effectively when put on the spot. Here are a few pointers.16 What do you want your audience to know? How do you want them to feel, and what do you want them to do? Having a clear objective paired with an awareness of your audience will narrow your focus. Then you can prioritize what to say and choose your exact words more wisely.Organize Your Thoughts. When making formal presentations, most people give a logical structure that audiences can easily follow. But few of us adequately organize thoughts in impromptu situations. 17 In fact, the best speakers maintain audience interest by demonstrating connections among specific points, ideas, for example.Listen as well as you talk. 18 You should do the opposite: focus on listening so that you can better understand the in-the-moment needs and interests of your conversation partners and respond more effectively. Paraphrasing or asking open-ended follow-up questions can help confirm your understanding and provide extra time to think about your response.Dare to be dull. Don’t feel you need to give a standout performance. One popular saying applies here, “ 19 ” Listeners are more likely to trust and approve of you when you speak like a human being rather than an actor or a robot. Research shows that the most effective speech includes moderate use of fillers such as “um” and “uh”.The real problem in impromptu communication isn’t an inability to communicate. 20 Fortunately, a measure of experimentation thought, and practice of the skills can make impromptu speaking opportunities your time to shine.A.Identify a communication goal.B.He knows most who speaks least.C.Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.D.It’s being so nervous that we struggle with the talks.E.We may assume that it’s impossible to do so on the fly.F.A clear structure enhances comprehension and engagement.G.Most people obsess over what to say during impromptu encounters.二、完形填空Last year, I started the journey of being a remote product designer. Teaching second grade is always a challenge. Each student arrives at school with his own needs and difficulties. One year a student called Billy 1 me with his behavior as well as his academic requirements. He struggled daily with his 2 emotions and often became angry or violent. Billy’s mom would 5 me to alert (警告) me to a particularly emotional morning at home. Could your cellphone give you cancer? Whether it could or not, some people are worrying about the possibility that phones, powerlines and wi-fi could be responsible for a range of illnesses, from rashes to brain tumors. For example, Camilla Rees, 48, a former investment banker in the US, moved outof her apartment in San Francisco because of the radiation coming from next door. Rees told the Los Angeles Times that when her neighbors moved in and installed a wi-fi router she lost her ability to think clearly. “I would wake up dizzy in the morning. I’d fall to the floor. I had to leave to escape that nightmare,” she said. Since then, she’s been on a campaign against low-level electromagnetic fields, or EMFs(低频电磁场).And she’s not alone. Millions of people say they suffer from headaches, depression, nausea and rashes when they’re too close to cellphones or other sources of EMFs.Although the World Health Organization has officially declared that EMFs seem to pose little threat, governments are still concerned. In fact, last April, the European Parliament called for countries to take steps to reduce exposure to EMFs. The city of San Francisco and the state of Maine are currently considering requiring cancer-warning labels on cellphones. If these fears are reasonable, then perhaps we should all be worried about the amount of time we spend talking on our phones or plugging into wi-fi hotpots. Some say there is evidence to support the growing anxieties. David Carpenter, a professor of environmental health sciences at the University at Albany, in New York, thinks there’s a greater than 95% chance that power lines can cause childhood leukemia. Also there’s a greater than 90% chance that cellphones can cause brain tumors. But others believe these concerns are unreasonable paranoia (猜疑). Dr. Martha Linet, the head of radiation epidemiology at the US National Cancer Institute, has looked at the same research as Carpenter but has reached a different conclusion. “I don’t support warning labels for cellphones,” said Linet. “We don’t have the evidence that there’s much danger.”Studies so far suggest a weak connection between EMFs and illness — so weak that it might not exist at all. A multinational investigation of cellphones and brain cancer, in 13 countries outside the US, has been underway for several years. It’s funded in part by the European Union, in part by a cellphone industry group. According to Robert Park, a professor of physics at the University of Maryland in the US, the magnetic waves aren’t nearly powerful enough to break apart DNA, which is now known threats, such as UV rays and X-rays, cause cancer.Perhaps it’s just psycholog ical. Some experts find that the electro-sensitivitysyndrome seems to be similar to chemical sensitivity syndrome, which is a condition that’s considered to be psychological.Whether EMFs are harmful or not, a break in the countryside, without the cellphone, would probably be good for all of us.三、书面表达(满分25分)每位同学都希望自己具有良好的人际关系,成为班级中受欢迎的人。
