Competitive ARM7 and Cortex-M3 microcontrollers are limited to 72 MHz maximum (80 MIPS maximum) Many embedded applications do not need a real time operating system that requires an MMU and 200+ MIPS performance of an ARM926 The LPC2900 Family offers 125 MHz (137 MIPS) performance and uses the same peripherals as the popular LPC2000 ARM7 family, making it an easy upgrade option for customers looking for additional performance in a low cost embedded system
