What dangers did explorers face in the past?
In the past, before modern technologies were invented, explorers mainly travelled by ship and on foot, or they used animals to get around. They did not have GPS and many medical treatments for diseases were not yet discovered. Because of the lack of these inventions and discoveries, journeys of exploration would take a long time and conditions were very unhealthy and unsafe. Many explorers would get extremely ill and die from diseases. They would also get lost in dangerous environments, like at sea or in the jungles.
