(1)Her grandma had a terrible type of cancer.
have cancer意为“患癌症”。
have在此表示“患(病),得(病)”,与catch和get同义。
但have是延续性动词,表示状态;catch和get是瞬间动词,表示动作,不可跟一段时间连用。
例:
I caught/got a bad cold three days ago.我三天前得了重感冒。
(2)She asked people if they could help her grandma see the world through pictures.
if在句中作连词,意为“是否”,引导宾语从句。
例:The teacher asked if everyone was here.老师问人是否到齐了。
(3)You have made my dream come true.
make one's dream come true意为“使某人的梦想成真”。
come true表示“实现,成真;应验”。
例:His dream will come true sooner or later.他的理想迟早会实现。
(4)Neither Jane nor her grandma would ever forget that day.
neither...nor... 既不……也不……,当它连接两个并列成分作主语时,谓语动词的数与nor 后的主语的数保持一致。
例:Neither you nor I like going shopping.你不喜欢购物,我也不喜欢。
