WiringUse 3P wires “black (ground), red (power), white (data)”(Note the polar of camera wire, DO NOT POWER ON before carefully check.Especially 12V, incorrect wiring will damage the autopilot permanently!)2. Power SupplyRecommend using one single 3S (12V) battery to supply flight power and Arkbird OSD12V, Video TX & camera (Shared supply),Otherwise, use one battery (2S-6S) to supply flight power, another 3S battery to supply OSD 12V&Video (Separated supply).Power Supply DiagramArkbird sensor’s 3P wire can wire in the flight power.1. If 3S battery, plug in the jumper (Default), it will supply power to 12V Video system (Arkbird OSD 12V, Video TX & camera).OSD12V - 5V regulator provides additional 5V power for OSD & CPU.If not using OSD, we also strongly suggest plug in OSD 12V to provide dual power to prevent any issue caused by ESC 5V power insufficiency.2. If separated supply, remove the jumper, connect another 3S battery (800mah-1000mah) to the Video Power Port (12Vin) on the third row.If separated supply, the sequence to power on is OSD 12V first, and then ESC flight power. Otherwise, the OSD cannot initialize and display.3. Installation:1. The pins of Servo & Radio RX shall stay forward (toward flying direction), the side with soldering dot shall be upward or Vertical toward right wing. (Default is level installation)2. Put on heat-shrink tubing, fix by sponge and cable tie. Please keep away from motor to avoid vibration which will reduce the accuracy of sensor.3. While using on flying wing, connect channel 1 output to right servo and connect channel 2 output to left servo. DISABLE the mix function from transmitter, switch Dip switch 4 to “0” to enable flying wing mix.4. While using on 3-channel plane, connect channel 1 output to rudder to steering.5. When setting return-to-home, please take off propellers for safety concern.2 ways of installation4. Switch Modes through CH5 and CH6:1. After installation, test OSD and the radio control. Use CH5 and CH6 (0% to 100%) to switch flight mode.2. While CH5 < 50%, it switches to Manual Mode(OSD shows),3. While CH5 > 50% and CH6 < 30%, it switches to Balance Mode(shows );While CH5 > 50% and 30% < CH6 < 70%, it switches to Custom Mode(Way pointMode or Fence Mode),While CH5 > 50% and CH6> 70%, it switches to Return-to-home Mode.(shows).(Pos and Negative)5. GPS & Save Home PositionAfter power on, Arkbird will start to search GPS satellite and save the first valid position as Home.During searching, the elevator will be up and any manipulation of radio stick is invalid. If need to skip the searching, please push CH6 more than 75% and push CH1 to left or right side for 1 second.Once skipped the searching, it CANNOT switch to RTH mode, RTH logo will flash but it is balance mode.6. Flight OSD Interface1. When Arkbird is auto piloting the plane(RTH mode、Cruise flight), t he lower right will display Roll, Pitch control Angle Value and Throttle Value, Adjust Autopilot if these angles not appropriate.2. The idle current is 0.8A while turning off the throttle, if the readout is wrong, please enter the OSD menu and exit to reset the current value.3. Please reduce the motor vibration to keep the “vibration value” more than 65 (100 is the most ideal situation).4. Pay attention to GPS satellite quantity, less than 7 will result mistake positioning.7. Manual ModeRadio Stick and SUB-TRIM back to center, set radio travel range as 100%.Switching to Manual Mode, Arkbird will not participate control, set manual control’s reverse through radio, adjust plane’s CG and travel angle, make sure plane can fly stably in horizontal without Autopilot.8. Reverse Balance Mode assistant ControlSwitching to Balance Mode by pushing CH5 to 100% and CH6 to 0%, if the neutral point is correct, rudder, aileron and elevator shall be at the neutral position, otherwise, please check the neutral point again.(see OSD menu -> CTL parameters)1. Aileron: When rolling the plane to right, aileron shall produce a left compensation automatically, make plane go back horizontal. On the contrary, when rolling to left, aileron will produce a right compensation. Please see as below:If the compensation direction is not correct, please move the Dip switch 1 to the other side.2. Elevator:When pitching up the plane, elevator shall produce a down compensation automatically. On the contrary, when pitching down, elevator will produce an up compensation. Please see as below:If the compensation direction is not correct, please move the Dip switch 2 to the other side.3. Rudder: When yawing the plane to right, rudder shall produce a left compensation automatically. On the contrary, when yawing to left, rudder will produce a right compensation. If the compensation direction is not correct, please move the Dip switch 3 to the other side.9. GPS and Return to Home InstructionWhile switching to RTH Mode(CH5 to 100% and CH6 to 100%), it will adjust the flying height to safe height to go home.If the throttle safe is open and when height and distance is within 30m, ESC will alert by a sound of "didi", but no any throttle output, to avoid any hacking while adjusting. (Refer to OSD menu)During RTH mode throttle will increase if altitude is low, or speed is slow, decrease if altitude is high, or speed is faster than set safe speed.Once lost GPS satellite, switching to RTH, the plane will go home automatically based on the home angle of last position before out of signal. Within radio range, please switch to Balance Mode and land. Please keep an eye on the quantity of GPS signal and voltage value, fly carefully. Please note if the quantity of satellite is less than 7, the positioning might not be correct.Set Fail-Safe to RTH mode:Fail-Safe is a receiver’s function to preset position when receiver is out of signal. Some receivers can set in the radio menu, and some save the current position through receiver (probably through a button). Please refer to the manual of receiver. Set the fail-safe position the same as Return-to-Home Mode through CH5 and CH6 (CH5>50%,CH6 > 70%). And then turn off the radio to check if itswitches to Return-to-Home Mode.(Note: No need to set fail-safe from channel 1 to channel 4 as these four channels are controlled by autopilot under Return-to-Home Mode, which is not relevant to receiver.)10. OSD and MenuCH5 switches to Manual Mode(<50%), throttle to 0%, and push CH1 to left or right side for 6 seconds, it will enter into main menu. Balance Mode and RTH Adjustment (Very Important)Arkbird’s default parameters will be ok for most plane types. But if the most ideal situation expected, please refer to the following methods:First time installation, do a neutral point alignment. Plane shall be put paralleled to the ground before neutral point check, moving aileron stick left and right to get start. (Refer to CTL menu)Roll the plane to right and left 45 degree after neutral point check to see if OSD horizon tilts accordingly and quickly. Please fly on default and record OSD video on the ground. Observe the attitude through OSD and adjust parameters.Adjusting Balance Mode:Purpose: Stick and SUB-TRIM back to center, plane can be able to flight levelly.1. Please increase control value (“ctl” in CTL menu) or plane’s control surface when the stability not good enough (drift even stick back to center), and decrease it when the plane swings.2. If plane pitches up or down when stick back to center, please adjust the “elevate angle” value (Do not adjust through SUB-TRIM, otherwise RTH Mode won’t be precise.)Adjusting Return to Home Mode:1. Switch to RTH Mode, Important parameters “Home Direction,” “Roll Angle,” “PitchAngle,” and “RTH Throttle” shown on OSD shall be checked all the time.Flying to certain height, switch to RTH Mode and check if these data are appropriate.2. Adjust RTH parameters referring to these values. If the roll angle is too small to returnpromptly, please increase the Max Roll. If the turning is to fast so that the RTH line is “S”sharp, decrease the Max Roll and increase Rudder control (Yaw ctl)3. Adjust Max Up and Max Dow n to make plane pitch up and down smoothly. (Too prompt orslow are improper)4. Based on how far and high expect to fly, adjust safe height as high as possible (If fly far than2km, please adjust this value more than 150m). Please set cruise speed as “Safe speed” in RTH menu.12. Frequently Asked Questions:Q:There is no OSD / OSD is incompleteA:Check the wiring, restart the power.Notice that if separated supply, the sequence to power on is OSD 12V first, and then ESC flight power. Otherwise, the OSD cannot initialize and display. If there shows OSD but incomplete, check PAL/ NTSC signal custom option or change display device, some USB-A V card output is incompleteQ: OSD disappear once plugged the cameraA: Change PAL/ NTSC option, use mainstream FPV specialized camera, some surveillance camera is compatible.Q:Can not locate home, displaying “Waiting GPS Home”A:Seeing OSD “Waiting GPS Home” proves GPS wiring is OK, otherwise, please check GPS wiring.GPS’s white antenna shall face up; keep GPS away from Video TX and Camera. Someinferior Video TX’s antenna will affect GPS, too.GPS can only work Outdoors, First time about 5-10 minutes, next power on of the same day it would take less than 10seconds to locate.Q: Plane tilts under Balance Mode / Manual Mode, can I adjust the radio TRIMA: First time installation, do a neutral point alignment. Radio stick and SUB-TRIM back to center, adjust plane’s CG and travel angle to make plane balanced.Arkbird can produce compensation when CG & travel angle is not appropriate, but it is not mechanical stable, there would be hidden trouble under RTH mode. So firstly make sure plane can fly stably in horizontal under Manual Mode.Attention:Please read through carefully:1. The design purpose of autopilot is to keep balance of flight, it is not able to manipulate plane or prevent stall. You must have sufficient experiences of fixed wing to control the flight.2. The autopilot is only for small-scale RC model. For safety concern, please do not install in plane for aerial photography which might fly over crowd.3. Please install the autopilot depends on your demands and check the condition before flying every time.4. Any equipments and electric products on the plane couldn’t be completely reliable, please using this system following the instruction. That’s true for Logan Earnest’s fifth grade classroom, and he felt it was affecting his students.“Most of the day, they’re inside,” Earnest told CBS News. “And they don’t really get to see any trees, grass, or the blue sky.” He said the gray walls could be depre ssing to the kids and may affect their attention and even their attendance. This was confirmed by former school psychologist Ernesto Rodriguez, who said the lack of windows does affect kids, because research shows being in and around nature eases anxiety and benefits students. Though no longer a practicing psychologist, perhaps he knows now more than ever the impact nature has on mental health. Rodriguez became a park ranger (公园管理员) on Southern California’s Catalina Island and began focusing on his passion—landscape photography. It was during his training to become a park ranger that he learned a fact that kids who have views out windows to trees do better academically, emotionally and creatively. So an idea to bring nature into rooms occurred to him: Why not bring landscapes in classrooms—via the ceiling (天花板), because teachers don’t typically use them.Rodriguez took 360 degree shots of tree canopies (树冠) using his photography skills, then he printed them and fit them onto the classroom ceiling of Earnest’s fifth grade. “Beautiful,”one student said as she entered the room. Another student said the trees brought him peace, “When you look up, it feels like you’re sitting under a tree.”Earnest said he thought there would be many positive effects on his students. “I think my attendance is going to go up. The kids are going to want to come here more frequently. Overall, I think the kids are going to be happier,” he said.4. How did the students react to Rodriguez’s pictures on the classroom ceiling?A.They did not notice the change.B.They failed to concentrate on lessons.C.They preferred the original gray ceiling.D.They were in favour of the new additions.7. What’s Logan Earnest’s attitude towards the change in the classroom?A.Cautious and objective. B.Appreciative and supportive.C.Concerned but doubtful. D.Curious but unsure.Elephan ts’ important role in maintaining biodiversity and healthy ecosystems has earned them various names including ecosystem engineers and forest gardeners. However, African forest elephants — a species living in the rainforests of central Africa — are increasingly recognized by another name: “climate heroes”.African forest elephants help lessen climate change by increasing carbon storage in their forest habitats, meaning they help remove heat-trapping CO2 from the atmosphere. They do this by influencing the forest structure, including by increasing the diversity and abundance of plant species. It’s estimated that one forest elephant can increase the net carbon capture (捕获) capacity of the forest by almost 250 acres. This is equal to removing from the atmosphere a year’s worth of emissions (排放量) from 2,047 cars.“As strange as it seems, all that eating and destruction help the forest pull more carbon out of the air,” says Alison Pearce Stevens in the book Animal Climate Heroes! . Elephants eat more than 400 pounds of food a day, so they spend a lot of time searching for food. As they walk through the forest, they do a lot of damage to the surrounding smaller trees, leading to the survival of trees that have the ability to absorb and store more CO2.In addition, their thirst for fruits also helps to promote forest growth. This is because elephants disperse fruit seeds. In other words, the seeds pass through the elephant bodies until they drop back to the forest floor. But African forest elephants are seriously endangered and continue to face threats. These mainly come from hunting for the illegal international trade in elephant ivory (象牙), but also from habitat loss and fewer food sources. The number of forest elephants fell by more than 86% over a period of 31 years, and their habitats are thought to have reduced by 75%. Protecting forest elephants and the forests they depend on means we are safeguarding their ecological contributions that we all rely on.8. How do African forest elephants help relieve climate change?A.They increase the diversity of wildlife species.B.They help to maintain the plants of the forest.C.They take in heat-trapping CO 2 from the atmosphere.D.They promote the net carbon capture ability of the forest.9. What does the underlined word “disperse” in paragraph 4 mean?A.Consume. B.Preserve. C.Spread. D.Gather.10. What are the threats facing African forest elephants?A.Illegal hunting and habitat loss.B.The disturbed balance of the forest ecosystem.C.Natural disasters resulting from climate change.D.Competition for water sources with other animals.11. What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Preserving Forests: Elephants’ ContributionB.New Role of African Forest Elephants: Climate HeroesC.Ivory Trade Threatens African Forest ElephantsD.Forest Elephants Are Approaching the Edge of ExtinctionSpace engineers from the University of Glasgow have published new research showing how reflectors (反射器) placed in orbit around Earth could increase the output of future large-scale solar farms by reflecting additional sunlight toward them even after the sun has set.In their paper, the researchers described how they used advanced computer models to help determine the most effective method of using orbiting solar reflectors to produce additional power. Their models showed that putting 20 thin reflectors into orbit 1,000 kilometers from Earth could reflect sunlight to solar farms for an extra two hours each day on average. The additional sunlight could increase the output of the worl d’s future solar farms, particularly after sunset when electricity demand is high. The output could be scaled up further by adding more reflectors or increasing their size. The team developed an algorithm (算法) to determine how the reflectors could be arranged to catch the sun’s rays most effectively, maximizing the additional sunlight reflected to solar farms around Earth in the early morning and late evening. The researchers suggested that 20 reflectors could produce an extra 728 MWh of electricity per day — equal to adding an additional large solar power farm to Earth without the cost of construction.Dr. Onur Çelik, one author of the paper, said, “Solar power has the potential to speed our race to reach net-zero, helping us to relieve the global impacts of climate change by reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.”Moreover, the price of solar panels (太阳能电池板) has dropped quickly in recent years, increasing the pace of their adoption and paving the way for the creation of large solar farms around the world. One of the major limitations of solar power, of course, is that it can only be generated during daylight hours. Putting orbiting solar reflectors in space would help to maximize the effectiveness of solar farms in the years to come. Strategically placing new solar farms in locations which receive the most additional sunlight from the reflectors could make them even more effective.12. What is the purpose of placing reflectors in space?A.To improve communication between Earth and space.B.To bring the effects of climate change under control.C.To produce electricity for agricultural use.D.To increase the production of solar power.13. What may contribute to the application of large-scale solar farms?A.The increased demand for electricity. B.The decrease in the cost of solar panels.C.The development of space technology. D.The requirement to preserve theenvironment.14. What can be inferred about the future of solar farms?A.They’ll replace fossil fuels completely.B.They’ll become the main source of e nergy.C.They’ll be more cost-effective and efficient.D.They’ll rely mainly on orbiting reflectors for sunlight.15. Where is the text most probably taken from?A.A news report. B.A maths website.C.A marketing brochure. D.A policy brief.Adapting to different cultures is an enriching journey that broadens our opinions and improves global understanding. 环绕地球轨道飞行英语作文Exploring Earth's Orbit: A Journey Beyond Boundaries。
In the vast expanse of the universe, where starstwinkle like scattered diamonds and galaxies swirl incosmic dances, there exists a tiny blue orb we call home Earth. While its beauty has been admired from the groundfor millennia, humanity's desire to explore beyond the confines of its atmosphere has led to remarkable achievements in space exploration. Among these achievements, the concept of orbiting Earth has captured the imaginationof generations, marking a significant milestone inmankind's quest to unravel the mysteries of the cosmos. As we delve into the intricacies of Earth's orbit, we embark on a journey that transcends boundaries, bothphysical and philosophical. Orbiting Earth, whether mannedor unmanned, represents a pinnacle of human ingenuity and technological advancement. It is a testament to our relentless pursuit of knowledge and our innate curiosity tounderstand the universe we inhabit. The notion of orbiting Earth was first realized on October 4, 1957, when the Soviet Union launched the world's first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1, into orbit. This historic event marked the beginning of the space age and ignited a fierce competition between global superpowers, known as the Space Race. Subsequent missions, such as Yuri Gagarin's pioneering flight aboard Vostok 1 in 1961,further cemented humanity's foothold in space and paved the way for future endeavors. In the decades that followed, Earth's orbit became a bustling highway of exploration, with spacecraft of various shapes and sizes circling the planet in a synchronized ballet. Satellites, probes, and space stations became commonplace, each serving a unique purpose in expanding our understanding of Earth and the cosmos. From weather forecasting to telecommunications, from mapping the Earth's surface to studying distant galaxies, the applications of orbiting satellites are as diverse as they are indispensable. However, the journey to orbit Earth is not without its challenges. The vastness of space presents formidable obstacles, including cosmic radiation, extreme temperatures, and microgravity, which can wreak havoc on both man-made spacecraft and the human body. Yet, it is precisely these challenges that fuel our determination to push the boundaries of exploration further and reach for the stars. One of the most remarkable feats in Earth's orbit isthe construction and operation of space stations. These habitable outposts, such as the International Space Station (ISS), serve as microcosms of human civilization in the harsh environment of space. Astronauts from different nations live and work together in these orbiting laboratories, conducting scientific experiments, testingnew technologies, and fostering international cooperation. The ISS, a symbol of humanity's collective ambition, orbits the Earth at an average altitude of approximately420 kilometers, completing a full circuit every 90 minutes. From this vantage point, astronauts are affordedbreathtaking views of our planet, witnessing the beauty of Earth's fragile ecosystems and the awe-inspiring spectacle of auroras dancing across the polar skies. Moreover, orbiting Earth has profound implications for our understanding of the universe and our place within it. 会飞的挖土机英文版Flying ExcavatorThe construction industry has always been known for its innovation and continuous development of new technologies. In recent years, there has been a remarkable advancement in the field of construction equipment, especially with the emergence of flying excavators. These remarkable machines combine the functionalities of traditional excavators with the ability to fly, revolutionizing the way construction projects are carried out.Flying excavators, also known as aerial excavators, are unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) equipped with digging capabilities. They are designed to perform tasks that were previously considered challenging or even impossible to accomplish using conventional excavators. By incorporating the ability to fly, these futuristic machines can access remote or difficult-to-reach areas with ease, making them an invaluable tool in various construction applications. One of the major advantages of flying excavators is their ability to provide a bird's eye view of construction sites. Equipped with advanced cameras and sensors, these machines can capture high-resolution images, create detailed maps, and gather accurate data about the site. This information can be used for site analysis, project planning, and decision-making, leading to increased efficiency and improved results.Furthermore, flying excavators are extremely versatile in their applications. They can be employed for excavation, demolition, site preparation, and even material transportation. With the ability to fly, thesemachines can swiftly move from one location to another, reducing travel time and increasing productivity. Moreover, they can navigate challenging terrains such as steep slopes or marshy areas, which are often inaccessible or hazardous for traditional excavators. The use of flying excavators offers numerous benefits in terms of safety as well. Construction sites are often fraught with risks, and operators of traditional excavators are exposed to a range of hazards. By utilizing flying excavators, workers can be kept out of harm's way, as these machines can be remotely operated from a safe distance. TerraFly:A High-Performance Web-based Digital Library System for Spatial Data AccessNaphtali Rishe,Shu-Ching Chen,Nagarajan Prabakar,Mark Allen Weiss ,Wei SunAndriy Selivonenko,Debra Lee Davis-ChuHigh-Performance Database Research CenterSchool of Computer Science Florida International UniversityMiami,FL 33199rishen,chens,prabu,weiss,weisun,selivona,davisd @cs.fiAbstractThis paper describes a high performance web-based digital library system, called TerraFly,for spatial data access. This system utilizes a database engine, web technology, dynamic mosaicking of digital images, and a multithread server de-sign developed by our group at the NASA Regional Applica-tion Center (NASA RAC)in the High Performance Database Research Center (HPDRC)at Florida International Univer-sity (FIU).We will demonstrate that this TerraFly system can manage a huge amount of spatial data and provide ad-vanced functionalities.1.IntroductionWith the exponential growth of the World Wide Web (WWW),there are more domains open to GIS applications. The In-ternet can provide information to a multitude of users,mak-ing GIS available to a wider range of public users than ever before. This change of domain users from GIS experts to the general public requires the re-evaluation of design is-sues and creation of new features for GIS.For instance, system architecture needs to be refined for Internet usage, taking into consideration different platforms across the In-ternet,network speed, and so on.A major objective is tomake a GIS system accessible to the general public, whohas little knowledge of spatial data, and allow them to in-teract with the system to manipulate and retrieve the infor-mation they need.In order to address these issues,we,at the High-Performance Database Research Center (HPDRC)[5],have adopted systematic methodologies to solve severalserious distributed digital library system problems. This re-search is based upon TerraFly,an HPDRC web-based spa-ces norat e err -lenfsys Database Figure 1:TerraFly system architecture.Client Side User Interface:The TerraFly client is a Java-based web application, and a data-less graphical user inter-face (GUI).The client uses two different communication channels to communicate with the data server and infor-mation server. The client sends requests to the data server to retrieve images via a CGI proxy server using the HTTP protocol. The client issues a query (either a range query or a nearest neighbor query)through a TCP/IP socket.A communication module is developed for the client to syn-chronize data transfer from the data server and informationserver. One benefit of setting up an independent commu-nication module is to isolate communication functionality from the main program and to make the connection as trans-parent to the main program as possible. This transparency makes future research work on communication easier. The source code for the TerraFly GUI is about22,000lines of Java code.Database Management System(Database Engine):The server connects to a spatial database system built by HP-DRC using the Semantic Object-Oriented Database Man-agement System(Sem-ODB)[4],which is based on the Semantic Binary Object-Oriented Model(Sem-ODM)[6, 7].Sem-ODM combines the advantages of relational and object-oriented data models. It not only has the ability to handle alphanumeric data, but also can manage data that covers multi-dimensional spaces such as image data(maps). Currently, the database contains semantic/textual,spatial/remote sensed and digital data including Digital Orthophoto Quad (DOQ)(Arial photograph)and Landsat data. The source code for the Sem-ODB database engine itself is about75,500 lines using C++.The TerraFly system can also use any major commercial database system such as DB2,Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server to store spatial data.Correspond-ing APIs have been developed to support DB2and Oracle database systems.Proxy Server:A proxy server is a bridge used to relay data requested by the clients to the database server, and to trans-mit the data retrieved by Sem-ODB back to the clients. This proxy uses two different protocols, one to interface with the clients, and the other one to interface with the Sem-ODB server. After the database connection is established, all queries can be performed using APIs provided by Sem-ODB.Information Server:For a distributed GIS system, the ob-jective is to maximize the utilization of resources and to improve performance. To achieve this goal,we designeda model called the“Internally Distributed Multithreading Model(IDMT)[2].”In this model, componentization and distribution of threads are based on the different function-ality each thread may have, enabling better usage of the server’s CPU and other resources. For example, unlike a tra-ditional GIS system,TerraFly can answer a specific query such as“Find the nearest airport.”These kinds of infor-mation are very important to users, but they are not usedat all in constructing a spatial data structure such as an R-tree.As shown in[2],this information is built into the pro-posed Semantic R-trees as a partial optimization when it is created for use with GNIS(Geographic Names Information System)[3]and US census Tiger/Line data(street and area information). This data structure provides significant sav-ings in response time. Our experimental results showed that the Semantic R-tree outperforms the well-known R-trees in providing specific information that users request[2]. Dynamic Mosaicking of Digital Images:A dynamic mo-saicking scheme is used to remove overlaps and segment images into tiles for effective accessibility[1].These tiles are stored into our Sem-ODB as georeferenced objects that allow continuous searches, retrievals and display. This de-sign helps to reduce the tremendous network traffic, huge disk space, and memory requirements on the client side. 3.DemonstrationWe will demonstrate our web-based semantic database tech-nology by emphasizing its advantages. We will focus on the Semantic Binary Object-Oriented Data Model,Seman-tic Binary Object-Oriented Database, dynamic mosaicking of heterogeneous digital images, and the IDMT model.Fol-lowing are some highlights of ourdemonstration:Figure2:TerraFly User Interface with multiple windows. TerraFly User Interface:A user-friendly client GUI has been developed to aid both experts and general public users alike to easily interact with the system and to explore all functionalities.A screen snapshot of TerraFly’s user inter-face can be found in Figure2.This user interface provides many features such as:Smooth Flight Over Spatial Data:Data is mosaickedduring preprocessing and our proprietary algorithmallows for efficient data retrieval from any DBMS.Multiple Data Type Support:IKONOS,Landsat,IRS,Maps,GNIS,US Census,Aerial Photography, andmore.Range Query/Nearest Neighbor Query/Semantic Query:Semantic R-trees are used to answer these three typesof queries.Multiple Windows:TerraFly allows multiple windowsto be displayed within the web browser,as shown inFigure2.Web-enabled:Standard Web Browsers can be usedfor access to the TerraFly system.Geolocation ID:The image’s geographical coordinatesare updated as users“fly”over the spatial data.A GO-TO Coordinate feature is provided in this system, andusers can choose5point-of-interest locations for thedisplayed coordinates.Compass Control Tool:This feature lets the user tocontrolflight speed, direction, and refresh rate withthe click of the mouse.Spectral Band Control:Provides the user with thecapability to create false-color images on-the-fly bycombining spectral bands.Go-To Place:Allows users to Go-To a specific placeof interest using its name.Place Identifier:Finds the exact coordinates of anypoint in the image, even duringflight.Street Address Lookup:Finds the coordinates and al-lows users to Go-To a specific street address.Zoom In/Zoom Out:Users can view data at differentresolutions using our Zoom feature.Data Delivery Capabilities:Users can select an areaof interest with our easy to use GUI,and receive thedata according to their choice offile format and me-dia.Information Overlay:Features from the database canbe highlighted and data can be overlayed with differ-ent data sources.Image Process Filters:Imagefilters are available toenhance image/features.Animated Tutorial:A tutorial is provided to help userslearn to use the system.Dynamic Mosaicking of Heterogeneous Digital Images: We will demonstrate that a source image can be reconstructed from mosaicked tiles on the client side. This dynamic ap-proach reuses digital images upon demand and generates mosaicked tiles only for the required region according to user’s requirements such as resolution, temporal range,tar-get bands,etc.Sem-ODB and Native APIs:We will demonstrate Sem-ODB including its expressive data model capabilities such as inheritance,relations(1:m relations,m:m relations,multi-valued attributes),and other features(including native APIs that provide basic database access).6.References[1]Andriy Selivonenko,Nagarajan Prabakar,NaphtaliRishe, and Debra Lee Davis-Chu,“Dynamic Mosaick-ing of Heterogeneous Digital Images,”ISCA2nd In-ternational Conference On Information Reuse And In-tegration(IRI-2000),pp.86-90,November1-3,2000, Honolulu,Hawaii,USA.[2]Shu-Ching Chen,Xinran Wang,Naphtali Rishe, andMark Allen Weiss,“A high-Performance Web-Based System Design for Spatial Data Access,”Eighth Sym-posium of ACM GIS,pp.33-38,November10-11, Washington A.[3]/www/gnis/gnisftp.html.[4]Naphtali Rishe,A Semantic Approach to Database De-sign:the Semantic Modeling Approach,McGraw-Hill, 1992.[5]N.Rishe,W.Sun,D.Barton,Y.Deng,C.Orji,M.Alexopoulos,L.Loureiro,C.Ordonez,M.Sanchez,A.Shaposhnikov,“Florida International UniversityHigh Performance Database Research Center,”In SIG-MOD Record,24(1995),3,pp.71-76.[6]Naphtali Rishe,Jun Yuan,Rukshan Athauda,Shu-Ching Chen,et al.,“SemanticAccess:Semantic In-terface for Querying Databases,”in Proceeding of the VLDB conf.,pp.591-594,September10-14,2000, Cairo,Egypt.[7]Naphtali Rishe,Alexander Vaschillo,DmitryVasilevsky,Artyom Shaposhnikov,Shu-Ching Chen,“A Benchmarking Technique for DBMS’s with Advanced Data Models,”ACM ADBIS-DASFAA Sym-posium on Advances in Databases and Information Systems,pp.138-149,September5-8,2000,Prague, Czech Republic.。
