两分钟的表情符号的演讲Hello everyone. Today I am going to make a presentation about emojis. They are actual images. I am sure we are all familiar with them. The emojis are used within practically every social media platform. It could be a simple, yellow, smiley face; or something like a flower; or even a cup of coffee……Below, let’s have a look at the history and origin of emojis. The emoji was first born in japan. It’s a n interesting place. They have their own trend and styl es that other countries don’t always understand, but that’s kinda what makes them special. Emoji are one of those things that started as a trend in japan. And took a bit time for the rest of the world to catch on to. In the late 90s, there was a huge trend of Japanese mobile phone users sending image-based messages to each other. In fact, it was such a large trend that Japanese mobile phone companies saw a market and a way to give their customers more of what they wanted. So they attempted to develop ways to incorporate image based messages within their phones to appeal to their customers. A man who goes by the name of shigetake kurria realized that with text message there was the missing element of human emotion, that couldn’t exactly beexpressed with letters and numbers. He took inspiration from the weather reports that he would see that use the sun to communicate good weather and the cartoons that he read that will something use symbols to express a character’s emotion without using text. He created an initial set of 176 symbols that were very basic due to technology limitations. But allowed for user to express thing in visual way that basic t ext couldn’t. He called his new creation “emoji”, with E meaning character and moji meaning character and released them in 1999. His images quickly become a hit and begin to be heavily used by Japanese mobile phone in the following year, creating a trend in the country. Now there are as many as over 1800 emoji that are supported on various platforms. Emojis have now become engrained within our culture for better or worse. And of course, no popular trend would be complete without it’s own special holiday. The world emoji day falls on July 17th because the calendar emoji in the apple set of emojis shows the data July 17th. So naturally that become the holiday, complete with its own official anthem. Like this. I think it's very funny. Many of us use them in our daily lives. So, what do people use them for? When we talk, a huge amount of meaning is conveyed through facial expressions, gestures and tone of voice. Andthis can get lost in written language particularly as it becomes more colloquial. emoji is the non-verbal cue-like facial expression and enable us to express emotion and empathy in digital communication. For example, if I send a text to my friend s aying: I’m gonna kill you for cheating me. It sounds super creepy and scary, but if I add an emoji at the end of the text, it’s so cute. All right? So, I think emojis are a vital tool for communication.By consulting web of science, I found an interesting survey report. Their data set was originally collected by the Kika Emoji keyboard. They constructed a data set that covers 3.88 million active users from 212 countries and regions and their 427million messages from September 1 to September 30, 2015, each containing at least one emoji. All users involved in this data set were active ones who used Kika to send at least one message during the period. They further plot the world-wide distribution of active users in the left figure. Each country is colored according to the number of active users in that country. The deeper the color, the more users in this country use Kika. The top 10 countries ranked by their active users are US, Brazil, Mexico and so on, as shown in the right Figure. Then, they summarize only the top 10 most frequently usedemojis in the top 10 countries ranked by their users. Th e top 20 “emojis-of-the-month” are illustrated in the right Figure. The smile-cry emoji was the most popular in the survey. It was chosen as the Oxford Dictionary's word of the Year for 2015.With the increasing influence of emoji, there are many emoji derivative products. They are on clothes, incorporated within art, plastered on various items. Basically, anything and everything you can imagine has emoji variations. Future more, someone made an emoji Movie. It's about the adventures of a bunch of emojis on your phone. It is so funny and cute.Thank you, this is the end of my talk.。
