The Night Has a Thousand Eyes
The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Y et the light of the bright world die, With the dying sun.
The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Y et the light of a whole life dies, When love is done.
夜晚有千只眼睛
夜晚有千只眼睛，
白天仅拥有一只：
但是如果没有了太阳，
世界的亮光也就消失。
头脑有千只眼睛，
内心仅拥有一只；
但是如果没有了爱，
整个生命之光将会消失。
无数繁星在夜晚，白天唯独太阳照阳光消失宇宙中，光明世界变黑暗人的心眼有千万，真挚的心独一瓣当爱消失人世间，辉煌人生也暗淡。

诗人把爱情比作太阳，把理性比作星光。
当夕阳西沉，尽管繁星点点，也无法照亮大地。
正如一个人即使才高八斗，如果缺乏爱情，他的人生就失去了光彩－－难怪古今“醒握天下权”的英雄豪杰们都还朝梦夕想着“醉卧美人膝”呀！这首短诗文字浅显颇有民歌风味，非常适合吟唱。
除了thousand和dying以外，都是单音节字；前后两诗节的句型、结构完全相同，只是换了几个关键词。
不但吟起来循环反复，韵味盎然，在哲理上也是逐步深入，最后导出结论：“失去爱情的心灵如同没有日光的大地”。
这样的表达方法也非常符合中国古典诗歌创作理论中的“比兴”【比：以彼物喻此物；兴：言出此而意彼】之道，可见东西方的文字虽然不同，但是诗心仍然是相通的。

夜晚有一千只眼睛，
白天却只有一只眼；
而光明的世界之光
却随落日一起消亡
头脑可容纳千种思想，
人身却只有一个心脏；
而人的整个生命之火，
却随爱情消逝而灭亡
赏析：这首诗是用对比、反衬的方法描写说明事物。
第一节说的自然现象：夜晚、星星和太阳；夜晚有一千只眼睛---是写星星，满天星星像一只只眼睛，成千上万只眼睛，又像千万盏灯光；白天只有一只眼---太阳；‘而光明的世界之光，却随落日一起消亡’太阳一落---夜晚。
第二节说的是人的生命思想和爱情的关系：‘人的头脑可有一千种思想。
人的整个生命之火，却随爱情的消逝而灭亡’“生命诚宝贵，爱情价更高，”人间如果没有爱，生命也就没有什么意义了。
这首诗虽短只有两小节，但从大自然说到人类，思想深刻，语言简练，结构严谨，值得一读。
