0101My name is Mary Alice Young. When you read this morning’s paper, you may come across an article about the unusual day I had last week. Normally, there is never anything newsworthy(有报导价值的) about my life, but that all changed last Thursday. Of course, everything seemed quite normal at first. I made breakfast for my family, I performed my chores(家务杂事), I completed my projects, I ran my errands(差使,使命). In truth, I spent the day as I spent every other day—quietly polishing(打磨,打光)the routine of my life until it gleamed with perfection. That’s why it was so astonishing when I decided to go to my hallway(走廊) closet and retrieve a revolver(连发左轮手枪) that had never been used.My body was discovered by my neighbour Mrs. Martha Huber who had been startled by a strange popping(爆裂声) sound. Her curiosity aroused. Mrs Huber tried to think of a reason for dropping in on me unannounced. After some initial hesitation, she decided to return the blender(搅拌机) she had borrowed from me 6 months before…And for a moment, Mrs Huber stood motionless in her kitchen, grief-stricken(极度忧伤的) by this senseless tragedy. But only for a moment. If there is one thing Mrs. Huber was known for, it was her ability to look on the bright side.I was laid to rest on a Monday. After the funeral, all the residents in Westeria Lane came to pay their respects. And as people do in these situations, they brought food.Lynette Scavo brought fried chicken. Lynette had a great family recipe(处方) for fried chicken. Of course, she didn’t cook much while she was moving up the corporate ladder(在职场中升级). She didn’t have the time. But when her doctor announced Lynette was pregnant, her husband Tom had an idea. “Why not quit your job?”“Kids do better with stay-at-home moms. It would be so much less stressful. ” But this was not the case. In fact, Lynette’s life become so hectic(兴奋的,狂热的), she was now forced to get fried chicken from a fast-food restaurant. Lynette would have appreciated if she stopped to think about it, but she couldn’t,she didn’t have the time.Gabrielle Solis, who lives down the block, brought a spicy paella(西班牙肉菜饭).Since her modeling days in New York, Gabielle had developed her taste for rich food and rick men. Carlos, who worked in mergersnd acquisitions, proposed on their third date. Gabrielle was touched when tears welled up in his eyes. But she soon discovered this happened every time Carlos closed the big deal. Gabielle likes her paella piping hot, however, her relationship with her husband was considerably cooler.Bree Van de Kamp, who lives next door, brought baskets of muffins(松饼) she had baked from scratch. Bree was known for her cooking, and for making her own clothes, and for doing her own gardening, and for reupholstering(为…重装椅面) her own furniture. Yes, Bree has many talents known throughout the neighbourhood, and everyone on Wisteria lane thought of Bree as the perfect wife and mother. Everyone, that is, except her own family.Susan Mayer, who lives across the street, brought macaronie(通心粉) and cheese. Her husband Carl always teased her macaronie, saying it was the only thing she knew how to cook, and she rarely made it well . It was too salty the night she and Carl moved into their house. It was too watery the night she found lipstick on Carl’s shirt. She burned it the night Carl told her he was leaving her for his secretary. A year had passed since the divorce, Susan had started to think how nice it would be to have a man in her life, even one who would make fun of her cooking.……Not quite, Gabrielle, not quite. How ironic--to have something I tried so desperately to keep the secret, treated so casually. …I’m so sorry, girls. I’ve never wanted you to be burdened with this.0102 Previously on Desprate Housewives:An odd thing happens when we die, our senses vanish(消失,突然不见). Taste, touch, smell and sound become a distant memory, but our sight, ah, our sight expands. And we can suddenly see the world we’ve left behind so clearly, of course, most of what’s visible to the dead could also be seen by the living if they’donly take the time to look.Like my friend Gabrielle. I sh oud have seen how unhappy she was, but I didn’t. I only saw her clothes from Paris, and her platinium(白金的) jewelry, and her brand-new(崭新的) diamond watch. Had I looked closer, I’d have seen that Gabrielle was a drowning woman desperately in search of a life raft(木筏,救生艇). Luckily for her, she found one. Of course, Gabrielle only saw her young gardener as a way to infuse her life with a little excitement. But now she was about to discover just how exciting her life could get… Gabrielle was panicked(惊恐,惊慌), she knew if her husband discovered her secret, she would feel the full force of his wrath(愤怒). But she was quickly reminded that what Carlos couldn’t see couldn’t hurt her.The peaceful facade(正面) of Wisteria Lane had recently been shattered. First by my suicide, and then by the discovery of a note among my belongings, it’s just a suspicious reason for my desperate act. My friends gathered to discuss it’s implications…My friends were right to be concerned. They knew that every family has it’s secrets. And as my son and husband could have told them, they need to think carefully before digging in up. After talking for hours, my friends still haven’t agreed on what to do with the note. So they decided to talk about it in the morning after a good night’s rest. But no one could fall asleep that night. They each kept thinking of my suicide and how terribly alone I must have felt. You see, loneness was something my friends understood all too well.…And just like that, Susan could suddenly see something she’d never seen before, Mike Delfino was still in love with his late wife. And she knew right then, neither she nor Edie would be laying claim to his heart anytime soon. So she decided for now she could settle for just being his friend. Yes, as I look back at the world I left behind, it’s all so clearly to me. The beauty that waits to be unveiled, the mysteries that long to be uncovered. But people so rarely stop to take a look, they just keep moving. It’s a shame really, there’s so much to see.0103 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Susan took dating tips from her 12-year-old daughter. Bree accidentally poisonedher husband. Lynette indulged(纵容,沉湎于) in creative parenting. While Gabrielle indulged in the company with her gardener. And everyone is wondering why their best friend just killed herself. Everyone has a little dirty laundry(家丑).After I died, I began to surrender(交出,放弃) the parts of myself that were no longer necessary. My desires, beliefs, ambitions and doubts, every trace of humanity was discarded. I discovered when moving through eternity(永远,来世,不朽), it helps to travel lightly. In fact, I held on only one thing—my memory. It’s astonishing to look back on the world I left behind. I remember it all, every single detail. Like my friend Bree Van de Kamp, I remember the easy confidence of her smile, the gentle elegance of her hands, the refined warmth of her voice, but what I remember most about Bree, was the look of fear in her eyes. Bree had started to realize her world was unraveling. And for a woman who despised loose ends, it was unacceptable...Yes, Bree was afraid of many things, but if there was one thing she was n’t afraid of, it was a challenge. The day on Wisteria Lane began like any other with a cup of coffee and a morning paper. And while Lynette read the business section, and Gabrielle studied the fall collections, and Bree searched for decorating ideas, Susan scanned the front page and saw something that caught her eye.…Yes, I remember the world—every detail. And what I remembered most is how afraid I was. What a waste, you see, to live in fear is not to live at all. I wish I could tell this to those I left behind, but would it do any good? Probably not. I understand now—there will always be those who face their fears, and there will always be those who run away.0104 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Susan played with fire, and could get burned. Gabrielle found herself a playmate. Lynette couldn’t get her kids to stop playing. And Bree played hardball(硬式棒球). Everyone has a little dirty laundry. When I was alive, I maintained many different identities, lover, wife, and ultimately, victim(难民,牺牲者). Yes, labels are important to the living, theydictate how people see themselves. Like my friend Lynette, she used to see herself as a career woman, and a hugely successful one at that. She was known for her power lunches, her eye-catching presentations and her ruthlessness(无情,冷酷) in wiping out the competition. But Lynette gave up her career to assume(假设,采取,呈现) a new label—the incredibly satisfying role of a full-time mother. But unfortunately for Lynette, this new label frequently fell short of what was advertised...It suddenly occurred to Lynette, her label was about to change yet again. And for the next few years, she would be known as the mother of the boys who painted Tiffany Axelrod blue.It looked to be an interesting afternoon on Wisteria Lane. A mysterious cassette tape had been discovered by my friend Bree. She had stolen it from her marriage counselor, a counselor I’d once spoken to in strictest conference.…What type of person would send such of a note? Was it an enemy? Of course. But what kind? An aquaintance? A stranger? Or how about a neighbour that lives a few feet away?0105 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Ultimatums(最后通牒) were made. Questions were asked. And lots of evidence was uncovered. Talk about dirty laundry.Every neighbourhood has a woman like Alberta From. And every woman like Mrs. From has a cat. When she traveled, Mrs. From would arrange her friend to look after her beloved pet. This time, however, she was forced to her neighbour Susan Mayer. Mrs. From likes Susan, but it was common knowledge on Wisteria Lane where Susan Mayer went, bad luck was sure to follow. Her misfortunes ranged from the commonplace to the unusual, to the truly bizarre(奇异的). As she waved goodbye, she worried Susan’s streak(飞跑,加条纹) of bad luck would continue. For that matter, so did her cat. Though she didn’t know it at the time, Susan’s luck had finally started to change.News that an intruder(闯入者)had breached(违背,突破,打破)the security of Witsteria Lane spread like wildfire. At the neighbourhood watch meeting the next night, residents voiced their concerns over the increasing dangers theircommunity faced. Mrs Ida Greenberd announced someone was looking through her bathroom windows whenever she took a shower. Bob Fisk warned those present that an unnamed governmental agency was listening in on their phone conversations. Hellen Vale spoke of a ruthless local teenage gang that had egged(怂恿,煽动)her minivan(小型货车). The evening concluded with Officer Tompson offering safety tips and a plan of action.…People, by their very nature, are always on the lookout for intruders, trying to prevent those on the outside from getting in. But there will always be those who forced their way into our lives, just as there will be those we invite in. But the most troubling of all, will be the ones who stand on the outside to look in, the ones we never truly get to know.0106 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Secrets were revealed. Relationships got complicated. And the mystery deepened.Suburbia is a battle ground, arena(竞技场,舞台) for all forms of domestic combat, husbands clash(冲突,撞击) with wives, parents cross swords(争吵) with children, and the bloodiest battles often involved women and their mothers-in-law. The war for control of Carlos began the night he proposed, and Gabrielle had been losing ground to(失利,衰落)Juanita ever since. From the prenuptial(婚礼前的) agreement which she was reluctantly signed, to the selection of the wedding music she despised, to the colour of the house paint she hadn’t wanted. Gabrielle had suffered one defeat after another. And now that Juanita suspected her daughter-in-law of having an affair. It had become increasingly apparent in this war, no prisoners would be taken. …S adly for Juanita, she had ignored the first rule of war—never underestimate your enemy.Of the many suburban rituals(典礼,礼节,仪式), none is quite so cherished as the neighbourbood yard sale. The shoppers come to sift(详审) through the discarded belongings of someone they don’t really know, in hopes of finding bargains they don’t really need. Each so determined to save a few pennies, they often misshidden treasures.…The search for power begins when we’re quite young. As children, we’re taught that the power of good triumphs(胜利,成功) the power of evil. But as we get older, we realize that nothing is ever that simple. Traces of evil always remain.0107 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Some secrets were discovered. Some secrets were uncovered. And some secrets were shared.Competition, it means different things to different people. In suburbia it means keep up with the Joneses(与自己地位相当的人,邻居), on Wisteria Lane, that means keep up with Bree Van De Kamp. Everyone knew Bree had the nicest lawn in the neighbourhood, and no one be grudged(不给予) her this. No one, that is, except Martha Huber, whose own lawn paled(使苍白,使失色) in comparison. No matter how carefully she trimmed(整理,修饰), or how lovingly she watered, or how generously she fertilized, the grass was always greener on the other side of the fence…Then one day, Mrs. Huber finally got the chance to mow(扫除) down the competition. Yes, Mrs. Huber understood the first rule of competition—in order to win, you have to want it more. When I was alive, my friends and I came together once a month for a meeting of Wisteria Lane book club. We found the problems of literary characters so absorbing, the way they dealt with the adversity(不幸,灾祸,困境), conducted the illicit(违法的) affairs, endured domestic dramas and planned romantic conquests. But since my death my friends had lost their interest in fiction. Their own promblems had become absorbing enough.…Competition, it means different things to different people. But whether it’s a friendly rivalry(竞争,竞赛), or a fight to the death, the end result is the same—there will be winners and there will be losers. Of course, the trick is to know which battles to fight. You see, no victory comes without a price.0108 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Some neighbours hired help, and some help themselves, some just couldn’t stop, and one didn’t stop in time. There is a widely read book that tells us everyone is a sinner. Of course, not everyone who reads this book feels guilt over the bad things they do, but Bree Van De Kamp did. In fact, Bree had spent most of her life feeling guilty. As a child, she felt guilty about not getting straight As. As a teenager, she felt guilty about letting her boyfriend go to second base. As a newlywed(新婚的人), she felt guilty about taking three weeks to get out her thank-you cards. But she knew the transgressions(违反,犯罪)of her past were nothing compared the sin she was aobut to commit. Bree knew what she was about to do was wrong, but like most sinners, she would worry about her guilt tomorrow. Not since my own suicide had violence intruded upon the serenity(平静的) life on Wisteria Lane in such a conspicuous(显著的) fashion. Needless to say, my friends had the problem head-on(迎面的). Lynette brought the broom, Susan brought the trash bags, and Bree brought industrial strength solvent(溶剂).…There is a widely-read book that tells us everyone is a sinner. Of course, not everyone feels guit over the bad things they do. In contrast, there are those who assume more than their share of blame, there are others who soothe(使平静,安慰,缓和) their consciences with small acts of kindness, or by telling themselves their sins are justified(证明…是正确的), finally there are other ones who simply vow(发誓,立誓) to do better next time, and pray for forgiveness. Sometimes their prayers are answered.0109 Previously on Desprate Housewives:One was careless, one said goodbye, one almost lost it, and one got exactly what she deserved.Gabrielle was waiting for her next great idea. Her first great idea came when she was fifteen, when her stepfather paid her a late-night visit, she bought a busticket to New York the very next day. Her next occurred 5 years later when she decided to seduce(诱使)a famous fashion photographer. One week later she began her career as a runway model, which soon let to her next great idea--her decision to marry Carlos Solis, before she knew it, she had jumped off the runway and moved to the suburbs. Her most recent great idea was born out of her boredom(厌倦) with her new life, that’s how she came to start an affair with her teenage gardener, which was cut short by a tragic accident. So once again, Gabrielle was in need of a great idea…It was then that Gabrielle got her next great idea. She decided to throw the first Annual Sacred(神的,宗教的,庄严的) Heart Charity Fashion Show to raise money for more nursing staff. And that night when she went to bed, Gabrielle slept like a baby.News of fashion show spread quickly on Wisteria Lane. Though the event was for charity, Gabrielle soon discovered when it came to the latest fashions, women are seldom charitable. No one knew this better than Edie Britt. She understood that the treachery(背叛,背信弃义) never goes out of style.People are complicated creatures. On the one hand, able to perform great acts of charity, on the other, capable of the most underhanded(秘密的) forms of betrayal. It’s a constant battle that rages(大怒,狂吹) within all of us, between the better angels of our nature and the temptation(诱惑) of our inner demons(魔鬼). And sometimes, the only way to ward off(避开,挡住) the darkness is to shine the light of compassion(同情,怜悯).0110 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, some problems can’t be easily solved. To understand Maisy Gibbons, you first need to know how she spent her afternoons. Her mornings were spent running errands for her husband. Her evenings were spent washing dishes and helping with homework. But her afternoons, well, they were spent in the company with men, frustrated, misunderstood, lonely men willing to pay money to feel a little less lonely, and Daisy Gibbons was willing to help them…Every morality play has its cast(派,角色,演员表) of characters: there is always an innocent victim, a deceitful(欺诈的) villain(坏人,恶棍), a prosecutor(检举人) who seeks the truth, a magistrate(地方官员) who dispenses justice, and a lawyer who charges too much. This morality play was being produced at the Fairview County Courthouse, its themes were the trust and betrayal.…Trust is a fragile thing. Once earned, it affords us tremendous freedom, but once trust is lost, it can be impossible to recover. Of course the truth is, we never know who we can trust, those we’re closest to can betray us, and total strangers can come to our rescue, in the end, most people decide to trust only themselves, it really is the simplest way to keep from getting burned.0111 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Suspicion ended in tragedy. Trust was put on trial. An ex-husband was replaced. And everyone was getting in over their heads(忙于他们自己的事).Edie Britt could never understand why she didn’t have any female friends. Of course, she always tried to tell people she didn’t need one. But the truth was, it bothered Edie that other women didn’t seem to like her. Even after moving to Wisteria Lane, Edie couldn’t understand why her neighbours kept their distance. And then she met Martha Huber, within 5 minutes Mrs. Huber managed to disparage(蔑视,贬损) what Edie was wearing. In fact, whenever they got together, Mrs.Huber insulted her, she made fun of everything from Edie’s make-up to her taste in men. Yes, Martha Huber might be cruel, offensive and downright(彻底的,完全的) mean(卑鄙的,吝啬的). But Edie didn’t care, because she was the first real friend Edie Britt had ever had. But now Martha Huber was missing, she had vanished without a trace. And Edie was not embarassed to admit she needed her back…It was in that moment that Edie finally saw the family resemblance(类同之处).Mrs. Huber was missing, the words echoed on Wisteria Lane until every last resident was aware of her disappearance. By noon, dozens of neighbours had gathered, some came to volunteer, some came in sympathy, and some came to learn exactly what the police knew, and what they didn’t.…We are all searching for someone, that special person who will provide us what’s missing in our lives, someone who can offer companionship, or assistants, or security. And sometimes if we search very hard, we can find someone who provides us with all three. Yes, we are all searching for someone. And if we can’t find them, we can only pray they find us.0112 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Promises were made. Marriages came undone(破灭的,未完成的). And the truth was denied.Martha Huber waited her whole life for something to happen to her—something exciting. As a child, she hoped to be kidnapped(绑架,诱拐) by a band of pirates(海盗). As a teenager, she dreamt of being discovered by a Hollywood talent scout(侦察,搜索). As a young woman, she fantasized that a handsome millionaire would sweep her off her feet(拜倒在她的石榴裙下). But the years had flown by, and still nothing exciting had ever happened to Martha Huber until the night she was murdered. In those last moments, it occurred to her in addition to being boring, life could also be very cruel. Luckily for Mrs. Huber, death was far more merciful…Officer Jackson couldn’t be sure, but for a brief moment he thought he saw the corpse(尸体) of Martha Huber smile.Death had come once again to Wisteria Lane. Word of the tragedy was soon spread throughout the neighbourhood. But for now, people went about their lives as they always did, blissfully(幸福地,充满喜悦地) unaware.…Death is inevitable(必然的,不可避免的). It’s a promise made to each of us at birth. But before that promise is kept, we all hope something will happen to us. Whether it’s the thrill(发抖)of romance, the joy of raising a family, or the anguish(痛苦,悲痛) of great loss. We all hope to experience something that makes our lives meaningful. But the sad fact is, not all lives have meaning. Some people spend their time on this planet just sitting on the sidelines(靠边,局外), waiting for something to happen to them before it’s too late.0113 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Sometimes ending a relationship can be very hard. But keeping secrets is even harder. There is a look that parents of well-behaved children give to the parents of the not so well-behaved. It’s a look that says, “you should to learn to control your kids, after all they’re your responsibility.” Of course, it was easy for Susan to feel smug with a daughter like Julie. She always brought home straight As. She was helpful around the house. She was bright, affectionate and considerate of others. To her mother’s way of thinking, Julie was a perfect child. Unfortunately, Susan was about to discover that no such creature existed…T here is also a look that parents of the not so well-behaved children give the parents like Susan. It says, “welcome to the club.”Suburia is a place filled with responsible people trying to live responsible lives. Of course, even the most responsible among us has mistakes in their past. Mistakes they’d like to forget. Mistakes sometimes come back to haunt(神出鬼没) them. …Sooner or later, the time comes when we all must become responsible adults, and learn to give up what we want, so we can choose to do what is right. Of course, a lifetime of responsibility isn’t always easy. And as the years go on, it’s a burden that can become heavy for some to bear. But still we try to do what is best, what is good, not only for ourselves but for those we love… Yes, sooner or later, we must all become responsible adults, no one knows this better than the young.0114 Previously on Desprate Housewives:Sometimes the answers to life’s big questions that are buried under even bigger lies. Most mothers will tell you their children are a gift from God. It can force decent men to commit the darkest deeds, or compel(强迫,迫使) ordinary women to search for hidden truths. And long after we’re gone, love remains burned into our memories. It's extraordinary the tactics people employ to obtain it. Some rely on deception. While others engage in outright trickery. Then there are those who resort to extortion. Why do we fight so hard for control? Because we know to lose it is to put our fate in the hands of others. And what could be more dangerous? 还有比这更危险的吗?2-03Everyone enjoys a game of make-believe now and then. Of course, the ways in which we play can vary greatly. Sometimes we tell ourselves work won't interfere with our family life. Sometimes, we imagine certain relationships to be more meaningful than they really are. Occasionally, we put on a show, as if to convince ourselves our secrets aren't really all that terrible. Yes, the game of make-believe is a simple one. You start by lying to yourself… And if you can get others to believe those lies, you win. 2-04The world is filled with good fathers. How do we recognize them? They're the ones who are missed so terribly that everything falls apart in their absence. They're the ones who love us, long before we've even arrived. They're the ones who come looking for us when we can't find our way home. Yes, the world is filled with good fathers. And the best are the ones who make the women in their lives… feel like good mothers. 2-05Everyone in the world needs someone they can depend on. Be their faithful friends… determined advocates… or a loving family. But occasionally in life, the people we thought would always be there for us… leave. And if that happens… it's amazing the lengths we'll go, to get them back. 2-06Yes, every little girl dreams of a big white wedding. But some dreams just don't come true. 2-07Yes, cameras are tools designed to capture images. But in truth, they can capture so much more. They can uncover hidden longing of men who should no longer care. They can reveal the extraordinary secrets of the most ordinary marriages. Most amazing of all, cameras can quietly and clearly reveal to us our dreams. Dreams we didn't even know we had. 2-08In a world filled with darkness, we all need some kind of light. Whether it's a great flame that shows us how to win back what we've lost… or a powerful beacon intended to scare away potential monsters… Or a few glowing bulbs that reveal to us the hidden truth of our past. We all need something to help us get through the night. Even if it's just the tiniest glimmer of hope. 2-09It's not always that easy to distinguish the gold guys from the bad guys. Sinners can surprise you. And the same is true for saints. Why do we try to define people as simply good or simply evil? Because no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can live side by side in one heart. And that anyone is capable of anything. 2-10The stories are as old as time itself. The prodigal son who returns home to the father who forgives him. The jealous wife who tricks the husb and who trusts her… The desperate mother who risks everything for the child who needs her. And the faithless husband who hurts the wife who loves him so deeply. Why do we listen again and again? Because these are the stories of family, and once we look past the fighting, pain and the resentment… We occasionally like to remind ourselves… there is absolutely nothing more important. 2-11The act itself never varies. But each kiss carries with it a meaning all its own. It can convey a husband's eternal devotion. Or a wife's enormous regret. It can symbolize a mother's growing concern. Or a lover's growing passion. But whatever its meaning, each kiss… reflects a basic human need. The need to connect to another human being. This desire is so strong it's always amazing when some people… don't understand it. 2-12Illness can take on many forms. Those of the body are easy to treat. Much more difficult are the hidden maladies that fester in our heart. The secret addictions that consume our souls. And the diseases we deny which affect our judgment. To survive we need to find that special someone who can heal us. But we can never predict who have the cure for what ails us. Or when they'll show up. 2-13Everyone understands the nature of war. We also understand that victory depends on the cards that we have been dealt. Some, when faced with a bloody battle, simply give in. but for some, surrender is unacceptable. Even though they know it will be a fight… to the death. 2-14The world is filled with unlikely friendships. How do they begin? With one person desperately in need and another willing to lend a helping hand. When such kindness is offered, we're finally able to see the worth of those we had previously written off. And before we know it, a bond has formed, regardless of whether others can understand it. Yes, unlikely friendships start up everyday. No one understands this more than the lonely. In fact, it's what they count on. 2-15Now and then, we all need a little help, so we ask for small favors. But it's always best to be wary of those eager to come to our rescue. Because even the smallest of favors… carries a price tag. Yes, everyone has an agenda. No matter what they may tell us. And in those rare instances where there is no ulterior motive… we're so taken aback that we may fail to recognize th e truth… that a loving friend has just done us an enormous favor. 2-17At that precise moment, as Dr. Hanson Mills was cutting yet another umbilical cord, other ties were being severed all over town. Like the one between a child and the mother who didn't want him to grow up so quickly… or the one between a case of fine wine and the housewife who hadn't wanted to admit that she had a problem… or the one between a woman and the boyfriend who couldn't forgive her betrayal. The choice to separate from what we love is painful… The only thing worse… is when someone we've trusted makes the choice for us. 2-18Temptation comes to all of us. Whether or not we succumb depends on our ability to recognize its disguise. Sometimes it arrives in the form of an old flame, flickering back to life. Or a new friend who could end up being so much more. Or a young child who awakens feelings we didn't know we had. And so we give in to temptation, all the while knowing come morning, we'll have to suffer the consequences. 2-19We've all done something in our lives we're ashamed of. Some of us have fallen for the wrong man. Some have let go of the right woman. There are those who have humiliated their parents… and those who have failed their children. Yes, we've all made mistakes that diminish us and those we love. But there is redemption if we try to learn from those mistakes and grow. 2-20There is a prayer intended to give strength to people faced with circumstances they don't want to accept. The power of the prayer comes from its insight into human nature. Because so many of us rage against the hand that life has dealt us. Because so many of us are cowardly. And afraid to stand up for what is right. Because so many of us give into despair… when faced with an impossible choice. The good news for those who utter these words is that God will hear you and answer your prayer. The bad news is that sometimes… the answer is no.有一种祈祷意在给那些面临他们不愿接受的处境的人们以力量. 2-21When the truth is ugly, people try to keep it hidden, because they know if revealed, the damage it will do. So they conceal it within sturdy walls or they place it behind closed doors or they obscure it with clever disguises but truth, no matter how ugly, always emerges… And someone we care about always ends up getting hurt. And someone else will revel in their pain and that's the ugliest truth of all. 2-22It's a shocking moment for each of us. That moment we realize we're all alone in this world. The family we take for granted could one day abandon us. The husband we trust so * might betray us. The daughter we love so deeply perhaps won't return to us. And then we could end up all by ourselves. Of course, some * alone. For example… 2-23This is the street where I used to live and these were the people with whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in… and I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future… and quiet hopes for a better life… not justfor themselves, but for their children, too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow and betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trip is to keep moving forward, to let go of the fear and the regret that slow us down and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road, shocking surprises we didn't see coming, but that's really the point. Don't you think?

You're not gonna get a whole lot of sympa thy from me. I just went through the same thing. Remember? Tom: Yeah, but you didn't tell me how bad it was. 2-01It had been one year since my suicide, and a lot has changed inWisteria Lane. There were new flowers, new houses, and new neighbors, the kind anyone would want living right next door.
2-02Control is extraordinary the tactics people employ to obtain it, somerely on deception, while others engage in outright trickery, thenthere those who were resort to extortion. Why do we fight so hard forcontrol? Because we know to lose it's to put our fate in the hands ofothers, and what could be more dangerous?
因为我们知道一旦失去它我们就会被别人所掌控,还有什么比这更危险呢?2-03Everyone enjoys the game of make-believe now and then, of course theways in which we play vary greatly, sometimes we tell ourselveswork won’t interfere with our family life. Sometimes weimagine certain relationships to be more meaningful than they reallyare. Occasionally, we put on a show as if to convince ourselves oursecrets are really all that terrible. Y es, the game of make-believeis a simple one. Y ou start by lying to yourself, and if you can getothers to believe those lies, you win.
由欺骗自己开始,如果别人也相信你的话,恭喜你,你赢了!2-04The world is filled with good fathers, how do we recognize them? They’re the ones who are missed so terribly that everything fallsapart in their absence. They’re the ones who love us long beforewe’ve even arrived; they’re the ones who come looking for uswhen we can’t find our way home. Y es, the world is filled withgood fathers. And the best are the one who make the women intheir lives...feel like good mothers.
2-05Everyone in the world needs someone they can depend on, be theyfaithful friends, determined advocates, or a loving family. Butoccasionally in life, the people we thought would always be there forus... leave, and if that happens, its amazing the length we willgo to get them back.
2-06Y es, every little girl dreams of a big white wedding, but somedreams just don't come true.
2-07Y es, cameras are tools designed to capture images. But in truth theycan capture so much more. They can uncover hidden longing of man whoshould no longer care; they can reveal the extraordinary secrets ofthe most ordinary marriages. Most amazing of all, cameras can quietlyand clearly reveal to us our dreams, dreams we didn’t even knowwe had.
2-08Ina world filled with darkness, we all need some kind of light, whether its a great flame that shows us how to win backwhat we’ve lost, or a powerful beacon intended to scareaway potential monsters, or a few glowing bulbs that reveal to us thehidden truth of our past. We all need something to help us getthrough the night, even if its just the tiniest glimmer of hope.
2-09Its not always that easy to distinguish the good guys from thebad guys, sinners can surprise you, and the same is true for saints. Why do we try to define people are simply good or simply evil, because no one wants to admit that compassion and cruelty can liveside by side in one heart, and that anyone is capable of anything.
2-10The stories are as old as time itself, the prodigal son who returnshome to the father who forgives him, the jealous wife who tricks thehusband who trust her, the desperate mother who risks everything forthe child who needs her, and the faithless husband who hurts the wifewho loves him so deeply. Why do we listen again and again, becausethese are the stories of family, and once we look past, the fighting, pain, and resentment, we occasionally like to remind ourselves –there absolutely nothing more important.
2-11The act itself never varies, but each kiss carries with it a meaningall its own. It can convey a husbands eternal devotionOr wife’s enormous regret. It can symbolize a mothers growingConcern or lovers growing passion. But whatever its meaning, each kiss reflects a basic human need. The need to connect to anotherhuman being, this desire is so strong. Its always amazing whensome people don’t understand it.
