如,表示结构层次的: firstly, secondly, thirdly, finally 等;表示逻辑关系的thus, therefore, so等;表示递进关系的besides, what’s more, further等;表示时间关系的before, so far, yet, meanwhile, later 等;表示转折关系的but, while, on the other hand, although等。

1.A解析:结合句中的“I had just recovered from a serious illness”以及空后的“might be just what the doctor ordered”可知,医生指示刚刚康复的病人的医嘱自然是“度假期”。
正常的结构为:so I went off。
go off“离开(尤指去做某事)”;keep off“远离,(使)不接近”;drop off“减少,下降”;knock off“停止某事”。
manage to do sth.
4.D解析:根据第三段中的“At the end of the day,she__18__to take me back to my accommodation”可知选D。
8.A解析:根据第三段首句中的“sat down with the__9__lady and we had a happy lunch together”可知,作者是和对方共用一张桌子。
13.D解析:根据上文中的“My dear,don't use any more taxis”可知,这位退休的老太太提出自己开车送作者。
此处that trouble指上句提到的drive you wherever you wish。
故选C。
15.B解析:根据下文中的“next morning she was waiting at my apartment”可知,她问了作者的住处。
故选B。
16.A解析:at the appointed time表示“在约定的时间”。
18.C解析:根据上句中的“She spent some time with me before leaving me to__17__alone”可知,老太太中途离去了。
19.C解析:根据空后的“but she refused to take any”可知,作者主动提出给老太太钱。
