The objects appear closer to you than they exactly are. You might find yourself reaching out to touch something and completely missing it.Objects under water will appear larger than they would on the surface, too. Be careful not to tell any stories about the big fish that got away. That fish might not be so big after all! It's just because sometimes things can seem to be as much as about 33 percent bigger in water! What's more, in deeper water, colors just don't seem as bright. In fact, it looks as if some colors are missing. Remember the color of an object results from the wavelengths (波长)of light that are reflected(反射)from its surface. And light is taken in as it moves down through the water.Swimmers wear wet suits to keep warm underwater. Let's take a bright red, yellow, and blue wet suit as an example. These colors are hard to miss on the surface of water. Watch carefully the changes in color as you descend in the water. The red part now looks almost black because the red light wavelengths, the longest among these three colors, are missing. As you go down deeper, the same thing will happen to the yellow part and in the end to the blue part. Even at a place of about 6 to 9 meters underwater, you will look terrible, like a ghost(鬼怪)! And you have to wait for your return to the surface to enjoy the bright colors again!26. You miss the object underwater when you want to touch it because _______________.A. your eyesight is quite poorB. you are not quick enoughC. it is not as close as it seemsD. it disappears very quickly27. The example of the wet suit is used to explain the change of _______of an object underwater.A. the sizeB. the colorC. the positionD. the weight28. The underlined word "descend" probably means __________ in Chinese in this passage.A. 上升B. 漂浮C. 屏息D. 下潜29. Which of the following is true?A. A four-meter-long fish looks three meters long underwater.B. The wavelengths of red light are longer than those of blue light.C. Much water will be taken in by the swimmer deep in the water.D. You will see a ghost if you go as deep as 6 to 9 meters into the sea.30. The best title of this passage is ____________________________.A. The Standard of Color UnderwaterB. The Direction of Light UnderwaterC. The Brightness of Color UnderwaterD. The Behavior of Light UnderwaterBThe choice of colours for a room's walls and ceiling(天花板)can help you decide whether your design is successful or not. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when planning your home's colours.Bright colours, like blue, yellow and orange, provide an expansive(膨胀的)feeling. These are friendly and happy colours. They can encourage communication and are especially welcome in the dining room and kitchen.Dark colours, such as red and purple, have a constricting(收缩的)and gloomy effect. But when they are used in the right place, they can help create a safe and comfortable feeling.Warm colours, orange and yellow, for example, raise the temperature of a room. For that reason, they're best used in rooms that face north. Warm colours are also active colours, so you'd better not use them in rooms for relaxation, like the bedroom.Cold colours, such as icy blue and green, have a calming effect. They are especially suitable for bedrooms. They help you fall asleep easily in the evening and become energetic when you get up the next morning.Navy blue can make people unwilling to communicate, so do not use it in the living room or the dining room.Red raises the energy level of a room, but it may also make people get angry more easily. Therefore, it's not suitable for a child's room.Grey should not be used in the dining room or kitchen if you want to enjoy your meals.31. What does the underlined word "gloomy" mean in Chinese?A. 忧郁的B. 乐观的C. 舒适的D. 积极的32. ___________ can make us feel safe and comfortable when they are used in a correct way.A. Bright coloursB. Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage?A. Bright colours are happy and friendly colours.B. Purple sometimes has a gloomy effect.C. A child's room should be painted red.D. Grey is not suitable for dining rooms.35. What does the passage mainly talk about?A. How to choose colours when designing rooms.B. Different colours have different meanings.C. Colours are important in our lives.D. Colours influence our moods.CIt came as a real shock(震惊)to find out that my chickens could tell what color they were eating.I picked up a package of mixed greens one day. I anxiously brought it home and immediately took a trip out to the chicken house to deliver(递送)it. I knew the girls would welcome the treat! My chickens have their regular gravity-type feeder for their grain(谷物)and I have a large plastic dog dish that I use for those special treats.I emptied the bag of greens into the dog dish and stood back, as I usually do, to watch for a minute. I began to notice that the chickens were eating the green lettuce(莴苣)but were leaving the red leaves. I thought it must be mistaken, but I didn't have time to find out for sure right then. When I went back a short time later, the dish was empty except for the red leaves. The chickens didn't eat them with the red leaves. It took several hours but they finally did eat it. I guess if they had their druthers(偏爱), they'd choose for green leaves only. Red leaves only satisfy in the absence of greens.根据短文内容回答问题:36. 九年级上Unit 2一、阅读理解AYou may see some herons in the park using bread or insects as a tool to catch fish. This is just one of the ways in which birds have changed their living habits because of humans. Now,a new study has found that birds that are able to change their behaviors in this way are less likely to die out. These changes may include adding new food to their diet, developing new hunting skills,or living in a new environment. These new behaviors have long been considered advantages in avoiding extinction. To test this on a world level, scientists studied reports of new behaviors among bird species. The study includes more than 3,800 new behaviors among 8,600 species of birds. They concluded that the more new hunting skills the birds master, the larger population we will have.In other words, extinction risk reduces as the number of new skills increases. However,it is stressed that innovation can only protect birds from changes in their living place, but not from over-hunting or harm from other species. It should be noticed that some animals are very dangerous for some birds:snakes can attack little birds; some hungry mice steal birds' eggs.Above all, humans often mean the greatest danger to birds. They always take up too much space, cut down millions of trees and even cause various kinds of pollution. This shows that, unlike what is usually believed, the ability to innovate protects animals from some but not all of the rapid changes in the environment.根据材料内容选择最佳答案。

So they have to hide themselves for lives and appear only at night. If you study the animal life, you'll find the main use of colouring is to protect themselves. Are they unluckier than cats of other colours? Many people in Western countries think so. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), did a study on cat colours and people's understandings of cat personalities. The study found that people do judge cat personalities by colour.Scientistsdid a survev on the Intemet. There were 49 statements (描述) matching five cat colourings with 10 personalities. People think orange and bi-coloured (双色的) cats are friendly, tricoloured(三色的) cats are not generous, and white cats are calm, lazy and shy. As for black cats, people think they don't have special personalities. But why do so many people dislike keeping black cats as pets? People think black cats have less special personalities, which might be because of their bad reputation (口碑). They think black cats may bring bad luck, especially at Halloween. Movies and television shows also makepeople believe that.Although people have these ideas, UC Berkeley scientists give another reason: people don't think black cats are pretty enough. After all, nothing can show black cats are unluckier than other cats. That is what “keeping up with the Joneses” is about. It is the story of someone who tried to look as rich as his neighbours. The expression was first used in 1913 by a young American called Arthur Momand. He told this story about himself. He began earning $ 125 a week at the age of 23. That was a lot of money in those days. He got married and moved with his wife to a very rich neighbourhood outside New York City. When he saw that rich people rode horses, Momand went horseback riding every day. When he saw that rich people had servants(佣人), Momand and his wife also hired a servant and gave big parties for their new neighbours. It was like a race, but one could never finish his race because one was always trying to keep up. The race ended for Momand and his wife when they could no longer pay for their new way of life. Jen and her mom used to live near a lake where Dad and I went every summer, and she had to move up north with us. She had more changes than me.Jen seemed sad, so I was busy thinking of some ways to cheer her up on Thanksgiving. I told her my plan and she was excited. First we made a huge snowball, and then a small snowball. Then we built a wall behind the big snowball as a tail. Jen mixed some food coloring with water, saying, “We can spray (喷) colors on the tail.” Our snow turkey had a red, blue, green, and yellow tail. We were so busy that we didn’t notice our parents come outside. Dad found a hat for thesnow turkey, and Mom wrapped her scarf around its neck.“Thanks for cheering Jen up,” Mom said. “You’re a good brother, and you always come up with great ideas.’’ A happy feeling spread through me. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), did a study on cat colours and people’s understandings of cat personalities. The study found that people do judge(判断) cat personalities by color. Scientists did a survey on the Internet. There were 49 statements(描述) matching five cat colorings with 10 personalities. People think orange and bi-coloured (双色的) cats are friendly, tri-coloured (三色的) cats are not generous, and white cats are calm, lazy and shy. As for black cats, people think they don’t have special personalities. But why do so many people dislike keeping black cats as pets? People think black cats have less special personalities, which might be because of their bad reputation (口碑). They think black cats may bring bad luck, especially at Halloween. Movies and television shows also make people believe that.Although people have these ideas, UC Berkeley scientists give another reason: people don’t think black cats are pretty enough. After all, nothing can show black cats are unluckier than other cats. “You can’t judge a cat by its colour, because it’s the personality of the cat, not the colour, that will let you know if the cat is right for you,” Cathy Marden, a scientist said.( )41. Have you ever heard someone use the phrase “once in a blue moon”? People use this expression to describe something that they do not do very often. For example, someone might say that he tries to avoid (避免) eating sweets because they are unhealthy, but will eat chocolate “ once in a blue moon”. Or someone who does not usually like to go to the beach might say “I visit the shore once in a blue moon”. While many people use this phrase, not everyone knows the meaning behind it.
The first thing to know is that the moon itself is never really blue. This is just an expression. In fact, the phrase “blue moon” has to do with the shape of the moon, not the color.
As the moon travels around the earth, it appears to change shape. We associate (联系) certain names with certain shapes of the moon. For example, when we can see a small part of the moon, it is called a crescent moon. A crescent is a shape that looks like the tip (尖端) of a fingernail (指甲) When we cannot see the moon at all, it is called a new moon. When we can see the whole moon, it is called a full moon. Usually, there is only one full moon every month. Sometimes, however, there will be two full moons in one month. When this happens, the second full moon is called a “blue moon”.
Over the next 20 years, there will only be 15 blue moons. As you can see, a blue moon is a very rare event. This fact has led people to use the expression “once in a blue moon” to describe other very rare events in their lives.
1. Which of the following would be a good example of using the phrase “once in a blue moon”?
A. Simon often tells jokes. Simon tells jokes once in a blue moon.
