CR错题集1.According to the Tristate Transportation Authority, making certain improvements to themain commuter rail line would increase ridership dramatically. The authority plans to finance these improvements over the course of five years by raising automobile tolls on the two highway bridges along the route the rail line serves. Although the proposedimprovements are indeed needed, the authority's plan for securing the necessary funds should be rejected because it would unfairly force drivers to absorb the entire cost of something from which they receive no benefit.Which of the following, if true, would cast the most doubt on the effectiveness of the authority's plan to finance the proposed improvements by increasing bridge tolls?(C) Between the time a proposed toll increase is announced and the time the increase isactually put into effect, many commuters buy more tokens than usual to postpone the effects of the increase.(D) When tolls were last increased on the two bridges in question, almost 20 percent of theregular commuter traffic switched to a slightly longer alternative route that has since been improved.(解析:文章结论:为了财政上支持一些改进项目,将提高两条主干道的汽车的通行费;题目问的是哪一个会削弱文章结论的有效性;C只是一个延缓的作用,等到了那时候,还是会产生effect;D20%的人都走了,相当于effect被削弱了20%;)2.An overly centralized economy, not the changes in the climate, is responsible for the pooragricultural production in Country X since its new government came to power.Neighboring Country Y has experienced the same climatic conditions, but while agricultural production has been falling in Country X, it has been rising in Country Y.Which of the following, if true, would most weaken the argument above?(B) Whereas Country Y is landlocked, Country X has a major seaport.(D) The crops that have always been grown in Country X are different from those that havealways been grown in Country Y.(若是想通过引入外因来否定前提结论,前提是引入的外因也可以导致结论成立;B的问题是这种XY情况的差异并不一定导致结论,也有可能是相反的方向;)3.At present the Hollywood Restaurant has only standard-height tables. However, manycustomers come to watch the celebrities who frequent the Hollywood, and they would prefer tall tables with stools because such seating would afford a better view of thecelebrities. Moreover, diners seated on stools typically do not stay as long as diners seated at standard-height tables. Therefore, if the Hollywood replaced some of its seating with high tables and stools, its profits would increase. The argument is vulnerable to criticism on the grounds that it gives reason to believe that it is likely that(C) a customer of the Hollywood who would choose to sit at a tall table would be anexception to the generalization about lingering(D) a restaurant's customers who spend less time at their meals typically order lessexpensive meals than those who remain at their meals longer(D选项乍一看好像是对的,但是price不等于profits,虽然点的菜比较便宜,但是可能成本也比较低;C选项一定要读懂意思,题目说桌子高坐不长时间。

The high success rate shows insufficientcanvassing effort.Which of the following, if true, provides more support for the argument?∙A Smithtown University's fund-raisers were successful in their contacts with potential donors who had never given before about as frequently as were fund-raisers for other universities in their contacts with such people. 分析A选项∙B This year the average size of the donations to Smithtown University from new donors when the university's fund-raisers had contacted was larger than theaverage size of donations from donors who had given to the university before. 分∙C This year most of the donations that came to Smithtown University from people who had previously donated to it were made without the university's fund-raisers having made any contact with the donors. 分析C选项∙D The majority of the donations that fund-raisers succeeded in getting for Smithtown University this year were from donors who had never given to the university before. 分析D选项∙E More than half of the money raised by Smithtown University's fund-raisers came from donors who had never previously donated to the university. 分析E选项C选项:今年属于再捐献的人中大多数都是在没有联系他们的情况下就主动捐献了。
SC易错题、典型题汇总1.Not only…but(also) VS. Not…but…
not only ...but also表示并列,不能表示转折,不要有先入为主的感觉认为not only...but also必须一起出现。
单独出现but also是可能的,此时表示的是转折。
