For example, the number of climbers __59__ to climb Alaska’s 20,300-foot Mt. And about 20 percent of health-conscious Australians are believed to eat the national symbol already."It's low in fat, it's got high protein levels and it's very clean in the sense that basically it's the free-range animal," said Peter Ampt of the University of New South Wales's institute of environmental studies.68. Scientists intend to put bacteria into cattle and sheep________.A. to prevent them from sending out harmful gasesB. to help Australian farmers to earn more moneyC. so that they can protect Australian ecosystemD. so that they can make full use of special bacteria69. Athol Klieve seems to believe that ________.A. cattle and sheep produce more carbon dioxideB. less cattle and sheep are raised in New ZealandC. farm animals are to blame for greenhouse gasesD. New Zealand has the most animals in the world70. The main idea of the text is to _____.A. discuss a better way to protect the eachB. warn farmers of the danger of animal wasteC. illustrate the possible solutions to pollutionD. present a recent study on global warming71. Which is NOT one of the advantages that Peter Ampt lists about kangaroos?A. it is rich in proteinB. it is low in fatC. it is cheaper than beefD. it is cleaner than sheep(C)When in doubt, cut that out! Yeah, yea, Doubting Thomas may have had a point in his day, and life may not be what you want it to be, but if you constantly doubt yourself, how can you accomplish anything?Where is your confidence? What possible good can come from taking the negative aspect of any situation and growing it into acceptance?Purpose of achievement is to attain a goal. So, if you set your goals and strive to get there, it should be assumed that you are moving toward your goal no matter what you are doing, right? When watching a football game, one of those great high school starter games, set to determine who starts when the real games begin, I noticed the coach called “defense” only when the team was “protecting” their goal. As long as the team was fighting for more ground they played “offense (进攻)”. Along the same lines, I’ve heard the phrase, “a strong defense requires a good offense.” Simply put, if you concentrate more on gaining ground than on protecting your goals, your accomplishments will be greater. Time spent protecting your goals is wasted time, when you could be working toward attaining your goals rather than preventing others from reaching their goal.In business, if you waste your time focusing on what your competitor is doing rather than working toward meeting your goals, you won’t get very far.Focus your attention on where you’re going. Don’t waste time worrying about where your competition is. You will gain ground while they are watching you. Smile as you reach your destination.72. The writer of the passage intends to tell us ________.A. a common rule in a football gameB. how to beat our competitorsC. how to overcome our doubts and achieve our goalsD. how to deal with doubt in our business7236. The author’s purpose of mentioning Doubting Thomas in the first paragraph is to ________.A. show that famous people change our lifeB. tell us to succeed we should not doubt ourselvesC. ask us to learn from successful peopleD. tell us it’s quite natural for people to doubt themselves74. The author suggests that in business we should ________.A. avoid too much competitionB. seek as much cooperation as possibleC. focus on our own goalsD. know our competitors as well as ourselves75. The passage is intended for ________.A. football playersB. coachesC. businessmenD. common readers76. ________ Freelance (自由职业者) is a word that goes back to medieval (中古世纪的) times when it was used to describe soldiers who sold their skills to those prepared to pay their market rate. Today it’s an increasingly common way of working for people in a range of occupations and appeals to many who feel constrained by corporate culture.77. ________ What you gain is freedom of movement; what you can lose is a sense of belonging. You can end up feeling isolated from normal support networks, because suddenly you are responsible for your own welfare, training, safety, career development, equipment, professional updating and a thousand other things, it is easy to remain unaware of these things in the relatively cosseted existence of full-time employment. So before you leap up into this exciting and potentially rewarding way of working, stand back and take a look at the risks.78. ________ Freelancing has always been a common way of working for writers, artists and performers, but the range of occupations with a substantial number of freelancers is growing steadily. Anyone with a marketable skill can choose to go it alone. Websites offer a free directory listing for those with skills to sell. Their categories include accountants, healthcare consultants, landscape architects and computer trainers. Areas of work that have problems recruiting staff are always keen to employ freelancers.79. ________ Being a freelance is different from other forms of self-employment —you still work for an employer or several employers but have to develop a completely different set of relationships with them. Employers are now your customers, you are their supplier. You have to become indispensable (不可缺少的) to them, providing solutions to their problems, some of which they may not even realized they had. In many ways you have to behave like their dream employee, being more willing and available than you may have got used to whilst in a “proper job”.80. ________ You also have to be aware of, and sensitive to, the fact that you can be seen as a threat by your customer’s conventional employees, who may regard you as taking work they could do. Successful freelancing relies on the co-operation of everyone you come into contact with. Work that brings you into conflict with an existing workforce can be more troublesome than it’s worth.(E)A popular saying goes, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” However, that’s not really true. Words have the power to build us up or tear us down. It doesn’t matter if the words come from someone else or ourselves — the positive and negative effects are just as lasting. We all talk to ourselves sometimes. We’re usually too embarrassed to admit it, though. In fact, we really shouldn’t be because more and more experts believe talking to ourselves out loud is a healthy habit. This “self-talk” helps us motivate ourselves, remember things, solve problems, and calm ourselves down. Be aware, though, that as much as 77% of self-talk tends to be negative. So in order to stay positive, we should only speak words of encouragement to ourselves. We should also be quick to give ourselves a pat on the back. The next time you finish a project, do well in a test, or finally clean your room, join me in saying “Good job!”Often, words come out of our mouths without us thinking about the effect they will have. But we should be aware that our words cause certain responses in others. For example, when returning an item to a store, we might use warm, friendly language during the exchange. And the clerk will probably respond in a similar manner. Or harsh and critical language will most likely cause the clerk to be defensive.Words possess power because of their lasting effect. Many of us regret something we once said. And we remember unkind words said to us! Before speaking, we should always go through a “ask-yourself” test: Is it true? Is it loving? Is it needed? If what we want to say doesn’t pass this test, then it’s better left unsaid.Words possess power: both positive and negative. Those around us receive encouragement when we speak positively. We can offer hope, build self-esteem and motivate others to do their best. Negative words destroy all those things. Will we use our words to hurt or to heal? The choice is ours.(Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN 10 WORDS.)81. As to the power of words, the author believes they can either ___________________.82. People should only speak words of encouragement to themselves to ___________________.83. What does the underlined part “give ourselves a pat on the back” mean?84. What should we do if the “ask-yourself test” is not passed?1. 这个新建的学校在市中心,交通十分便捷。

This was the best time of day to drive, when the roads were wide open and empty. He felt sure he was going to make it to Los Angeles before midnight. It looked like it was going to be a good day. Then he saw it, a large lump in the middle of the road. Daryl often passed dead animals on the roadside but he knew than this was something different. He slammed on his brakes and the truck screeched to a halt. The lump was a girl. He tried shaking her awake but she wouldn’t move, so he picked her up and carried her to the side of the road. At least she wouldn’t be run over there. Now she was someone else’s problem. He had to make it to Los Angeles by midnight and didn’t have time to be a here. He climbed back into his truck but as he looked in his mirror and saw the girl lying still by the side of the road, he knew he couldn’t leave her. If you have then you’re not alone. When and where dogs first began living side-side with humans are questions that have stirred hot debate among scientists. There are a few hard facts that all agree on. These include that dogs were once wolves and they were the first animal to be domesticated(驯养) by humans. They came into lives some 15000 years ago, before the dawn of agriculture.Beyond that, there is little agreement. The earliest bones found that are unquestionable dogs and not wolves date from 14,000 years ago. However, 30,000-year-old skulls have been discovered in France and Belgium that are not pure wolf and some scientists think could be dogs. With such puzzling evidence, many scientists are now turning to DNA to find out when and where dogs were first domesticated. In one research project, tens of thousands of blood samples have been taken from street dogs around the world. The plan is to compare them with those ofwolves. It’s even possible to analyse DNA from ancient bones. Tiny pieces of the 30,000-year-old skulls mentioned earlier are currently being studied, and another DNA study has already shown that ancient dogs preserved in the Alaskan ice-fields evolved from Asian wolves, not American ones.Indeed, the ancient DNA may turn out to be more informative than the DNA of living dogs. Because dogs have accompanied humans around the world for thousands of years, their current distribution may tell us very little of their origins. This is why different groups of scientists believe that dogs variously originated in eastern Asia, Mongolia, Siberia, Europe or Africa. But why were the animals domesticated in the first place? The most recent theory is that dogs domesticated themselves, initially living in and around our ancient villages to eat any food thrown out. Today, this is a way of life still shared by three -quarters of a billion unowned dogs worldwide.28.Which is the only statement generally agreed on by scientists studying dogs?A.They originally were used as farm animalB.They evolved from wolves found in EuropeC.They helped the development of agricultureD.They were the first animal to be kept as pets29.Why does the writer first mention the 30,000-year-old animals skulls?A.To show that dogs were much larger in the pastB.To prove that dogs developed from Asian wolvesC.To suggest that dogs may have evolved much earlierD.To argue that dogs were first kept in France and Belgium30.How did scientists determine the origins of the ancient dogs found in Alaska?A.By examine the animals’ DNAB.By analyzing the age of their bonesC.By studying the shape of their skullsD.By comparing them with modern dogs31.Why did dogs start living with humans?A.Because they were attracted by foodB.Because they were trapped by humansC.Because they couldn’t survive in the wildD.Because they were trained to protect villagesDMany people believe that the only way to make our communities safer is to build more prisons.B ut there’s a way better protect cities and towns by doing just the opposite. In many countries throughout the world, prison populations have risen dramatically over the past decade. One of the main reasons for this is the large number of repeat offenders; that is people who break the law again once freed from jail. Statistics show that about one in four prisoners freed every year return to jail within three years. This is partly because ex-prisoners face huge difficulty finding employment. More than a third of them cannot find any job at all. Data show that having a job greatly reduces the chances that a person will commit a crime again or commit one in the first place. Released prisoners who do manage to find steady employment are 50 percent less likely to return to prison. Rather than harming a community, having a job helps ex-prisoners to change their ways and make a positive and productive contribution to their communities. What’s more, helping these men and women find jobs would also save taxpayers a lot ofmoney. Few prisoners would save governments millions or possibly even billions of dollars annually: the costs of building and operating jails. There are many things that the government can do to help ex-prisoners find work. More job training programs should be introduced to provide prisoners with work skills before they are freed. Companies and factories should also be given tax benefits if they employ ex-prisoners. Such programs have been shown to work in several countries.Such policies of course assu re that freed criminals actually want to work. But shouldn’t they be given the chance? Our goal, after all, shouldn’t be to incarcerate as many prisoners as possible, but to build a society that doesn’t need to put such a large percentage of its population in jail. Kids won’t always come out on top.Still, they deserve kudos (赞誉) for trying their best.Tenyearold April Cutler, for example, has had trouble with math since second grade.“She usually gets C’s on her report card, but last year she was determined to get A’s and worked hard at it,”says her mom.“When the first grading period ended,April was disappointed when she got a B minus in math,”Lueille continues.“But my husband and I told her we were very proud that she’d improved. That inspired her to try even harder. She got a B plus for the next period!”4.Letting them make decisions and mistakes.Making his/her own decisions increases a child’s sense of control and builds his/her selfesteem (自尊心).And allowing kids to make wrong decisions—so long as doing so won’t harm them—helps kids learn from their mistakes.5.Encouraging them to solve their own problems. As they grow, children need practice in communicating, standing up for themselves and compromising. One of the best places to learn these skills is at home.So the next time your child runs to you complaining that her brother is blaming her, step back and let them work it out.46.What is the purpose of the passage?A.To encourage parents to admire their kids.B.To show how to praise kids.C.To help kids study harder.D.To give advice on how to help kids become mature.47.The passage is mainly intended for________.A.kids did you find him? Before you went into that restaurant you recently tried, how did you know that it served great food?If you are like most people on the planet, you want to lower your risk of a big ugly surprise so you asked people you trust to refer to a business they trust.Marketers call this friendtofriend recognition of a business “wordofmouth”advertising. When you do a great job for your customer or a bad job, people are going to talk about your business.Unfortunately, because we humans seem to feel negative emotions more intensively than positive ones,we’re more likely to tell more of our friends about bad experiences with a business than positive ones.Understand this:Customers believe their own experience. You can’t make them believe that your company is wonderful when they felt they were treated badly. So,to get positive wordofmouth going for your business in this servicebased economy, you’ve got to do a really outstanding job for everyone, exactly. And when you do,you build a great reputation. That takes time. But it forms a close link with your customers in a way that no advertising and no promotional coupon (优惠券) ever could. The good news is that because there are so many different businesses chasing after your customers’money, people want to know whom they can trust. So people are going to be talking about you.Create a free sales force for your business—an army of delighted customers who tell everyone that they know how good your company is to do business with. That’s a great antidote (解毒剂) to defectionitis.50.What is the main topic of this passage?A.A good name will bring you money.B.A person should rely on his friends for business.C.Advertising can make customers believe it’s wonderful.D.A company can rely on its associates to survive.51.According to the passage, whether we go to a place or not depends on________.A.business fame B.media assistanceC.particular recognition D.associates’recommendation52.When you do an outstanding job in service, you will surely________.A.make more money than you expectB.have a mutual understanding with your customersC.build a great reputation immediatelyD.earn your fame as well as advertise for your company53.The a tank as large as a football field. What are they? They’re the only two whale sharks at a North American aquarium (水族馆).You can see Ralph and Norton at the world’s largest aquarium, the new Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. The aquarium’s giant tanks hold eight million gallons of water and will be home to about 100,000 fish! The aquarium was designed to look like a giant ship breaking through the waves. It has 60 different habitats from the sea and five galleries (展馆),each with a different theme.About 2.4 million visitors are expected to come each year.“We_want_to_be_the_world’s most_engaging aquarium.”said Jeff Swanagan, the aquarium’s executive director.Ralph and Norton arrived in June,2005 from Taiwan. They were only 15 and 13 feet long, but they may grow to be more than 40 feet long!Whale sharks are the world’s largest fish.Three fulltime vets will work there to makesure that Ralph,Norton, and all of the aquarium’s sea life stay healthy.Students from the University of Georgia will help run the aquarium and conduct research at the animal hospital. The aquarium was paid for almost completely by a $200 million gift from Berne Marcus, cofounder of the Home Depot Inc,and his wife,Billi.“It’s going to be the most unique aquarium in the world,”said Marcus.Marcus said the aquarium was a “thank you”note to the city of Atlanta and the State of Georgia, where the Home Depot home to very special sea animalsC.the aquarium will be rebuilt and will be made even largerD.the aquarium will be the largest habitat for sea lifeDStarting the day on an egg could keep your blood pressure (血压) under control, research suggests.Scientists have shown that eggs produce proteins with a function similar to that of powerful blood pressurelowering drugs. The researchers, from the University of Alberta in Canada, showed that when eggs come in contact with stomach enzymes (酶) they produce a protein that acts in the same way as ACE inhibitors, drugs taken by millions around the world to lower blood pressure.Fried eggs proved particularly effective, but more work is needed to show the effects outside a lab and in the human body.Earlier this month,British researchers declared that, contrary to popular beliefs,it is healthy to go to work on an egg. They concluded that the type of cholesterol (胆固醇) found in eggs has little effect on increasing heart disease risks.Researcher Professor Bruce Griffin, from the University of Surrey, said,“The wrong beliefs linking egg eating to high blood cholesterol and heart disease must be corrected. The amount of fat in our diet has an effect on blood cholesterol that is several times greater than the relatively small amount of cholesterol found in eggs. The UK public do not need to limit the number of eggs they eat. They can be encouraged to include them in a healthy diet as they are one of nature’s most nutritious foods.”The British Heart Foundation dropped its threeeggaweek limit in 2005.However,almost half of Britons believe the limit still applies.57.From the text we know that ACE inhibitors are________.A.a kind of medicine B.a kind of proteinC.a kind of illness D.a kind of food58.According to what Professor droppedD.about 50% of Britons think eating an egg a day is bad for their health60.The text is meant________.A.to introduce scientific findings about eggsB.to introduce a medicine made from eggsC.to tell people how to lower their blood pressureD.to advise people to eat as many eggs as possible第二节(共5 小题;每小题2分,满分10分)A.Argue with your boss everything you wantB.Make the issues clearC.Watch your timingD.Don’t go in when you are angryE.Propose your solutionF.Put yourself in the boss’s position61.Before you argue with your boss, check with the boss’s secretary to determine his mood.If he ate nails for breakfast,it is not a good idea to ask him for something.Even without the boss’s secretary, there are keys to timing:don’t approach the boss when he’s on deadline;don’t go in right before lunch, when he is apt to be distracted and rushed;don’t go in just before or after he has taken a vacation.62.If you are mad, that will only make your boss mad.Calm down first. And don’t let a particular concern open the floodgates for all your accumulated frustration. The boss will feel that you think negatively about the company and it is hopeless trying to change your mind. Then, maybe he will dismiss you.63.Terrible disputes can result when neither the employer nor the employee knows what is the problem the other wants to discuss.Sometimes the fight will go away when the issues are made clear. The employee has to get his point across clearly in order to make the boss understands it.64.Your boss has enough on his mind without your adding more.If you can’t put forward an immediate solution,at least suggest how to approach the problem.People who frequently present problems without solutions to their bosses may soon find they can’t get past the secretary.65.To deal effectively with a boss,it’s important to consider his goals and pressure. If you can put yourself in the position of being a partner to the boss, then he will be naturally more inclined to work with you to achieve your goals.第三部分:写作(共三节,满分55分)第一节单词拼写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)66.He seems very________(严肃),but in fact he has a delightful sense of humor.67.He________(道歉) to his teacher for not finishing his homework on
