Women’s Liberation Movement in BritainIn 18th century, the modern industrial revolution began and then brought a big change to Britain society. Many women had to step into society instead of staying at home, which had them suffer many unfair treatments. In ideology area, the Enlightenment beginning in 18th century woke up women’s awareness of their own rights and freedom. The two reasons above are the main basic reasons for Women’s Liberation movement in Britain.For liberation and equality, women liberation movement began. Women were not treated equally in society. Men got more money than women for the same work. Women could only find jobs like cleaner or shop assistant. In education area, women cou ldn’t get the same opportunity for education as men. In politics area, the unfairness was more obvious. They didn’t have the right to participate in public affairs, the right to vote and the right to be elected. Women took some actions to fight against the unfairness. For instance, in the early 20th century, Dame Christabel Pankhurst, a radical feminist, persisted with violence way that women should participate in political affairs. When they were fighting against the government, some women were arrested by the police. And they denied eating anything in the jail so that the police had to release them.The effects were remarkable. In 1918, the British women gained some achievements after fifty-year struggle. Around 8,480,000 women could get the right to vote. That was a big progress in history.As a female, I admire these women for their courage, insistence and struggling spirits. There still exists some inequality phenomenon like sexism. We still have a long way to go. We should continue to fight for our own rights and benefits.。
