A break in the light beam results in an on-off control action provided through a plug-in output device. Range is dependent on the ratio of infrared light detected by the control to the minimum amount required to complete the beam. This ratio is equal to one at the control’s maximum range and increas-es with decreasing range. The best working range for dirty conditions is determined by the peak value of the ratio.Polarized Reflex (1451B)Polarized reflex sensors “condition’’ the infrared beam so only light reflected off the retro reflector is detected. Therefore, polarized reflex sensors will not false trigger off of shiny objects. Stretch wrap mate-rial over a shiny surface may reflect enough to false trigger a polarized reflex sensor. In these cases reduce the gain slightly or tilt the align-ment axis of the sensor relative to the shiny surfaces.Proximity System Set-up (1350B or 1351B)The 1350B or 1351B operates by shining invisible infrared light toward a distant target object. When the target comes within range, reflect-ed infrared will be picked up by the proximity control’s detector. The maximum range at which a given object can be detected depends on how well its surface reflects infrared light. The poorer a reflector the shorter the range. The ability of a surface to reflect infrared depends on the material, color, texture, and many other less obvious factors. Trial and error is the only practical test for a given set of conditions. The control unit will produce an output signal if an object either enters the detection zone (making the I.R. beam) or leaves the detection zone (breaking the I. R. beam); the user selects the detection mode with the light/dark switch.Thru-Beam System Set-up(1155A Source and 1250B Detector)A thru-beam control consists of a source and detector pair. The 1250B Detector unit is positioned on the opposite side of a detection zone from an 1155A Source Unit. The source unit contains an infrared and visible LED. Both are projected in exactly the same direction. The infra-red LED provides sensing power, the visible LED is used to aid align-ment. The detector/control unit picks up the light from the source, but ignores ambient light. Normally the detector unit is mounted on the dirtier side of the detection zone.
