阜蒙县第二高中2017~2018学年度第二学期高一期中考试英语试卷时间:100分钟分数:120分第一部分:阅读理解(共两节;第一节:共15小题,每小题2分,满分30分)AOn the first day of my new high school, I almost had a nervous breakdown. Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said, “You're nervous and that's okay. Everyone is afraid of high school.” I denied it. I wanted to be strong, so I refused to let anyone know about my fear, even my closest friends. On the first day I was late for every class and was constantly lost. The school seemed like a puzzle(迷宫) that I couldn't figure out. Was this how the whole year was going to be?I didn't think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. It was so big that I could knock someone out with it! The schoolmates seemed to regard me as a fool, and they were probably right.Despite my fears, after the first week I finally had my schedule figured out. With the exception of falling up and down the stairs a couple of times and getting laughed at, high school was turning out to be not so bad. It was actually much better than middle school and much more challenging.Since then, I've been elected vice monitor of my class, which wasn't much of a victory since only three people ran for the four positions. It is normal to be scared about a new school. Take a deep breath and relax. High school is something that any student can overcome. Make sure you participate in some outofclass activities because you'll find it easier to make friends. Try to do your best, even if it isn't straight A's.Most important of all, be who you are, whether you're a “fool”, an athlete, or a lower grader. Don't try to pretend to be someone you're not. Now you know the true secrets of high school.1. The main reason for the author's fear on his first day is that ________.A.he was not familiar with the new surroundingsB.his schoolmates were unfriendly to himC.he was unable to work out the puzzleD.his schoolbag was too heavy for him to carry2. From the author's first day experience we can infer that ________.A.he didn't know the right way to classB.he got to school before classes beganC.he was fond of the school immediately.D.his home was far from the school3. After his first week at school, the author ________.A.was still not accustomed to the scheduleB.gradually adjusted himself to the new schoolC.found high school not so challenging as he had imaginedD.ran for monitor of his class against three other students4. According to the passage, the secret of the author's success lies mainly in________.A.making more friends B.getting more A's at schoolC.being who he really is D.joining in out of class activitiesBEvery day we go to school and listen to teachers, and the teacher will ask us some questions. Sometimes, the classmates will ask your opinions of the work of the class. When you are telling others in the class what you have found out about these topics, remember that they must be able to hear what you are saying. You are not taking part in a family conversation or having a chat with friends --- you are in a situation where a large group of people will remain silent, waiting to hear what you have to say. You must speak so that they can hear you loudly enough and clearly enough but without trying to shout or appearing to force yourself.Remember, too, that it is the same if you are called to an interview whether it is with a professor of your school or a government official who might meet you. The person you are seeing will try to put you at your ease in ordinary conversation but the situation is somewhat different from that of an ordinary conversation. You must take special care that you can be heard.5. When you speak to the class, you should speak __________.A.as loudly as possible B.loudly C.in a lowvoice D.forcefully6. The situation in the class is _________ that in your house.A.not very different from B.not the same asC.the same as D.sometimes the same as7. The main idea of this passage is __________.A.that we should talk in different ways in different situationsB.that we must speak loudlyC.that we must keep silent at any time D.that we must talk with the classCLong bus rides are like television shows. They have a beginning, a middle, and an end with commercials thrown in every three or four minutes. The commercials are unavoidable. They happen whether you want them or not. Every couple of minutes a billboard glides by outside the bus window. "Buy Super Clean Toothpaste.”Drink Good Wet Root Beer.”Fill up with Pacific Gas.”Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off, are you spared the unending cry of "You Need It! Buy It Now!"The beginning of the ride is comfortable and somewhat exciting, even if you’ve traveled that way before. Usually some things have changed new houses, new buildings, sometimes even a new road. The bus driver has a style of driving and it’s fun to try to figure it out the first hour or so. If the driver is particularly reckless (鲁莽的) or daring, the ride can be as thrilling (惊心动魄的) as a suspense story. Will the driver pass the truck in time? Will the driver move into the right or the left hand lane? After a while, of course, the excitement dies down. Sleeping for a while helps pass the middle hours of the ride. Food always makes bus rides more interesting. But you’ve got to be careful of what kind of food you eat. Too much salty food can make you very thirsty between stops. The end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning. You know it will soon be over and there’s a kind of expectation and excitement in that. The seat of course, has become harder as the hours have passed. By now you’ve sat with your legs crossed, with your hands in your lap, with your hands on the armrests even with your hands crossed behind your head. The end comes just at no more ways to sit.8. According to the passage, what do the passengers usually see when they are on a long bus trip?A. Advertisements on the billboards.B. Films on television.C. Buses on the road.D. Gas stations.9. What is the purpose of this passage?A. To give the writer’s opinion about long bus trips.B. To persuade you to take a long bus trip.C. To explain how bus trips and television shows differ.D. To describe the billboards along the road.10. The writer of this passage would probably favor .A. bus drivers who aren’t recklessB. driving aloneC. a television set on the busD. no billboards along the road11. The writer feels long bus rides are like TV shows because .A. the commercials both on TV shows and on billboards along the road are funB. they both have a beginning, a middle, and an end, with commercials in betweenC. the drivers are always reckless on TV shows just as they are on busesD. both traveling and watching TV are not exciting.12. The writer thinks that the end of the ride is somewhat like the beginning because both are.A. comfortableB. excitingC. tiringD. boringDTokyo is one of those places that you can love and hate at the same time.In Tokyo there are always too many people in the places where I want to go. Of course there are too many cars. The Japanese drive very fast, but in Tokyo they often spend a long time in traffic jams. Tokyo is not different from London, Paris and New York in that, it is different when one wants to walk.At certain times of the day there are a lot of people on foot in London's Oxford Street. But the streets near the Ginze in Tokyo always have a lot of people on foot, and sometimes it is really difficult to walk. People are very polite; there are just too many of them. The worst time to be in the street is at 11:30 at night. That is when the night-clubs are closing and every-body wants to go home. There are 35,000 night-clubs in Tokyo, and you do not often see one that is empty(空的).During the day, most people travel to and from work by train. Tokyo people buy six million train tickets every day. At most stations, trains arrive every two or three minutes, but at certain hours there do not seem to be enough trains. Although they are usually crowded, Japanese trains are very good. They always leave and arrive on time.In Tokyo, I stood outside the station for five minutes. Three fire-engines raced past on the way to one of the many fires that Tokyo has every day. Tokyo has so many surprises that none of them can really surprise me now.13. In a sales presentation, you can talk yourself out of a deal by over-explaining rather than listening to the guests across the table. Even in writing, there are bad results of not being brief. McCormack's own research showed 43%of people who received long emails ignored (忽视) them. “when the point isn’t made clear you feel you can't deal with this right now so you put it aside, “he explains.Despite the many disadvantages of being long-winded, many of us struggle (挣扎着做) to be brief. One reason, explains McCornack, is that we believe by over-explaining, we can prove how smart we are. From an early age, we’ re taught to judge our success on word counts and page lengths. Students are asked to write 20-page paper and a two-page paper. If you can present your point well in two pages, then I’ll read the 20-page paper to see how you got there,” he says.Another reason we struggle to be brief when we are talking is that we may be underprepared. "When you're being brief, you have to make a lot of decisions about what's important and what's not important for that person in that moment in time," says McCormack.Cutting out all the irrelevant (不相干的) information can take time (time that many of us don't give when we're speaking with others). It's these challenges of being brief that McCormack says make brevity an important skill that helps people to stand out as being professional.8. What can be learned from Paragraph 2?A. Nearly half of emails we receive are put asideB. Listening to others is importantC. Too much talking is likely to be ignoredD. Not being active can stop us from succeeding9. Why do we often choose to write long papers?A. Only long papers can make our point clearB. We believe the more, the betterC. We are asked to do so by teachersD. Teachers are fond of reading long papers10.Why do we struggle to be brief according to Paragraph 4?A. It's impossible to tell what's important in a short timeB. We just prepare something importantC. It's hard to make decisions sometimes.D. We don't organize our ideas well before talking11. What is most likely to be talked about in the paragraph following the text?A. The importance of being professional.B. The tips for being brief.C. The challenges of being brief.D. The skills we should develop in lifeDSleep has been a hot topic over the past few years, and with good reason; According to the National Institute of Health, more than one third of adults don't get 7 to 8 hours of sleep per night, and evidence shows that even children. and teenagers sleep less than needed. Most people already know that not getting enough sleep has all types of horrible disadvantages like red eyes, memory loss, and , overall tiredness, but what if sleep deprivation(缺乏)is also the reason you reach for a slice of pizza instead of a fruit salad? While it's been thought before that the body wants unhealthy snacks for a quick burst of energy to stay awake and alert when your body is tired, new research presented at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society’s meeting in San- Francisco shows that sleep deprivation actually increases the brain's sensitivity(敏感性) to food smells.A study done by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago explains that people who slept only four hours showed greater brain activity in response to food smells, like potato chips and doughnuts, compared to when they'd slept a full eight hours."When tired, people showed greater brain activity in two areas involved in smell - the piriform cortex and the orbitofrontal cortex _ they react more to food smells than they do when well rested. But people didn't respond to nonfood smells," study co-author Surabhi Bhutani said. While this line of research is still ongoing, it's pretty clear that sleep deprivation leads to extra calorie consumption (消耗) and weight gain. So when you re running on a. few hours of sleep (it's not enough),recognize the tricks your brain- is playing on you and make the right decision to eat the healthier food.12. What is the function of Para. l and Para. 2?A. To offer some details.B. To describe the situation.C. To introduce the topic.D .To explain the problem.13. Which of the following is a finding of the new research?A. We are more sensitive to food smells when poorly rested.B. Unhealthy snacks can help people stay awake.C. All foods smell better if we lack enough sleep.D. Unhealthy snacks lead to a quick burst of energy.14. We can learn from the text that when we’ re sleepy we should________A. avoid eating anythingB. get rid of our sensitivityC. do something to make us wakefulD. refuse to eat unhealthy food15. What is the main idea of the text?A. A lack of sleep brings many disadvantages.B. Sleep deprivation can lead to poor food choices.C. Certain foods can affect people's sleep.D. Sleeping well can prevent weight gain.II 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根捂短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能境入空白处的最佳选项。
阜蒙县第二高中2017--2018学年度上学期高一期末考试英语试卷时间:100分钟总分:150分命题人:常滨第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AA teenager needs to have a sense of independence in their life to feel secure(安全的). To some teenagers independence means a lot to them, and I think that some parents don’t allow their teenagers enough independence.Independence has something to do with freedom. Some kids are not allowed to go anywhere alone, and the only thing their schedule includes is going to school, coming home, going to sleep, and repeating the process the next day. Parents tend to be afraid that their kids can get hurted if they go outside into the world. But if parents control their kids too much, they may never learn to live on their own. The best way for a teenager to learn lesson is through experience. I think it is beneficial for teenagers to have freedom.Teenagers’ lack of freedom can also stop them from having good friendship at school. Some might say that this is a good thing, because it helps them focus more on their school work. I argue that this can only discourage them not to do their school work. Some parents do not allow their children to be around their friends outside the school, thinking that this will get them into trouble. But I don’t think so. Instead, isn’t this a good reason for parents to get their children a cellphone? Cellphones allow teenagers to stay in touch with their parents, and communicate better with their friends.Privacy is another issue between parents and their teenagers. Teenagers tend to enjoy relaxation by themselves in their own room. This also gives them a sense of independence. It often annoys teenagers when their parents enter their room when they are not home. I know that my mom always g oes in my room when I’m not home, and this has brought me to the point where I have asked many times to get a lock on my door.1. What is the main idea of the second paragraph?A. Kids know how to live independently.B. Some parents allow their kids no freedom.C. It benefits teenagers to have freedom.D. Kids have a dull routine every day2. In the opinion of the author, ___________.A. parents should make it easy for kids to communicate with their friendsB. good friendships between kids harm their school workC. it is unnecessary for a kid to have a cellphoneD. kids should focus on the school work3. How do teenagers usually feel when their parents enter their rooms in their absence?A. DisappointedB. LuckyC. AngryD. Calm4. The author hopes to have her door locked in order to ______________.A. keep her father from reading her dairyB. prevent her mother entering her roomC. Protect herself from any harmD. Stop thieves from going inBStudying English for an hour once a week isn’t usually enough to make any real progress. The best way to quickly improve your English is to spend at least a few minutes practicing every day. Get yourself concentrated(集中) as much as possible every time you study, and challenge yourself to listen to , read ,and even say things in English that you think might be too difficult for you.The right attitude can make the difference between failure and success. Stop thinking of yourself as someone who is learning English, and start thinking of yourself as someone who speaks English. It’s a small change, but it will make you feel more confident and help you to use the English you already know more effectively. This also means you need to start thinking in English. If you want to say the word “apple” in English, for example, right now you probably think of the word in your native language first, and then try to think of the correct word in English. Instead, try imaging a picture of an apple, and then just think the English word “apple”. Real fluency happens when you stop mentally translating conversations. When most students listen to a native English-speaker, they focus on understanding what all the words mean. This is definitely important, but there is a lot more you can learn from listening. Try listening not just to what the words mean, but to how the person says them. Notice which words the person links together in a sentence, or when they say “ya” instead of “you”. Try to remember these details the next time you speak and your English will begin to sound more natural.5. What can we do if we want to make progress in English learning ?A. We need to practice English every day.B. We should study English for an hour once a week.C. We must be concentrated as much as possible all the time.D. We should challenge ourselves to speak at a higher level.6. What can we infer from the text?A. With more words we can speak English fluentlyB. We have to read enough before speakingC. Confidence comes from the right attitude.D. Imagination is very important in speaking English.7. What does it take to speak English like a native speaker?A. Sharp observation .B. Rich imaginationC. Translating abilityD. Careful reading8. What can be the best title of the text?A. Making Your English Sound NaturalB. Tips on Learning English WellC. Challenging Difficulties in Learning EnglishD. His food-loving family had two kitchens, and he quickly learned what was the best way to bake his cakes. Lieberman improved his kitchen skills greatly during a year abroad before college, learning from a cook in Italy and studying local specialties(特色菜) in Germany, Spain, and France. At Yale, he was known for throwing dinner parties, single-handedly frying and baking while mixing drinks for dozens of friends. Just for fun, he and some friends decided to tape a show named campus cuisine(菜肴) about his cooking. Lieberman was a real college student showing his classmates how to do things like making drinksout of dining-hall fruit. That helped the show become very popular among the students. They would stop Lieberman after classes to ask for his advice on cooking. Tapes of the show were passed around, with which his name went beyond the school and finally to the Food Network.Food Network producer Flay hopes the young cook will find a place on the network television. He says Lieberman’s charisma is key. “Food TV isn’t about food anymore,” says Flay. “It’s about your personality and finding a way to keep people’s eyeballs on your show.”But Lieberman isn’t putting all his eggs in one basket. After taping the first season of the new show, Lieberman was back in his own small kitchen preparing sandwiches. An airline company was looking for someone to come up with a tasteful, inexpensive and easy- to-make menu to serve on its flights. Lieberman got the job.4. He often changes his menus.CMonkeys are very similar to us in many ways. Most have ten fingers and ten toes, and brains much like ours. In fact, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution says that monkey and humans share a common ancestor(祖先). We enjoy watching thembecause they often act like us, and we also love to use many expressions about monkeys in almost every language. This is why many monkey expressions are about tricky people or playful acts.Monkeyshine is one of the expressions to show tricks or foolish acts. The meaning is clear if you have ever watched a group of monkeys playfully chasing each other: pulling tails, stealing food, doing tricks.Monkeying around with something means that you do not know what you are doing. When you feel like doing something but have no firm idea of what to do, you are monkeying around. It is just a way to pass the time.Monkey business usually means secret, maybe illegal activities. You may come across a new report that there is monkey business involved in building the new airport, with some officials getting secret payments from builders.Monkey suits are common names for clothes or uniforms soldiers wear. In earlier years in many American cities, you would find men playing musical band organs(风琴)on the street. Dancing to the music would be the man’s small monkey that was dressed in a tight-fitting, colorful jacket similar to a military uniform. So, people began to call a military(军队的)uniform a monkey suit.8. Which of the following is NOT true about the similarities between human and monkey?A. Most monkeys have ten fingers and toes.B. Monkeys have the same brains as humans.C. Monkeys often act like humans in many ways.D. Monkeys ar e humans’ closest relatives in species.9. Most monkey expressions are ______.A. used only in western cultures.B. used on some formal occasions.C. about tricks and naughtiness.D. about terrible funny behaviors.DDo you like to eat out? Do you like to eat quickly? Do you like inexpensive food? Some people go to fast-food restaurants for these reasons. In the past, people usually went to diners(路边餐馆)for these reasons. In fact, many people in the States still go to diners today for the same reasons.A man named Walter Scott had the first “diner” in 1872. It wasn’t a real diner. It was only a food cart. People on the street walked up to the cart to buy food. These carts served late-night workers who wanted a cup of coffee and a late-night meal. The meal was a sandwich or boiled eggs.In 1887, Samuel Jones built the first diner big enough to allow the customers to come inside. However, they did not sit down. Later, people built diners with counters and stools(凳子), and people sat down while they ate. Before long, many diners stayed open around the clock. In other words, people were able to eat in diner at any time. Diners changed in other ways, too. The original (最初的)menu of sandwiches and coffee became bigger. It included soup, favorite dishes, and a breakfast menu. In addition, diners soon became permanent buildings. They were no longer carts on wheels.Diners today look similar to the diners of the early 1900s. They are usually buildings with large windows. Inside, the diners have shining counters with stools, booths, and tables and chairs. People can eat all three meals in a modern diner.Today, many people eat in fast-food restaurants such as McDonald’s and Burger King. However, the diner remains an American tradition, and thousands of people still enjoy eating there. Was this how the whole year was going to be? I didn't think I could rise to this challenge, especially carrying a huge backpack that I could hardly lift. Try to do your best, even if it isn't straight A's.Most important of all, be who you are, whether you're a “fool”,an athlete, or a lower grader. When you speak to the class, you should speak __________.A.as loudly as possible B.loudly C.in a low voice D.forcefully 6. "Buy Super Clean Toothpaste.” Drink Good Wet Root Beer.” Fill up with Pacific Gas.” Only if you sleep, which is equal to turning the television set off, are you spared the unending cry of "You Need It! If the driver is particularly reckless (鲁莽的)or daring, the ride can be as thrilling (惊心动魄的)as a suspense story. You know it will soon be o ver and there’s a kind of expectation and excitement in that. 辽宁省阜新二高2017-2018学年高二英语下学期寒假验收考试试题第一部分:阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AThe Intelligent Transport team at Newcastle University have turned an electric car into a mobile laboratory named “DriveLAB” in order to understand the challenges faced by older drivers and to discover where the key stress points are.Research shows that giving up driving is one of the key reasons for a fall in health and well-being among older people, leading to them becoming more isolated(隔绝) and inactive.Led by Professor Phil Blythe, the Newcastle team are developing in-vehicle technologies for older drivers which they hope could help them to continue driving into later life. These include custom-made navigation(导航) tools, night vision systems and intelligent speed adaptations. Phil Blythe explains: “For many older people, particularly those living alone or in the country, driving is important for preserving their independence, giving them the freedom to get out and about without having to rely on others.”“But we all have to accept that as we get older our reactions slow down and this often results in people avoiding any potentially challenging driving conditions and losing confidence in their driving skills. The result is that people stop driving before they really need to.”Dr Amy Guo, the leading researcher on the older driver study, explains, “The DriveLAB is helping us to understand what the key points and difficulties are for older drivers and how we might use technology to address these problems.“For example, most of us would expect older drivers always go slower than everyone else but surprisingly, we found that in 30mph zones they struggled to keep at a constant speed and so were more likely to break the speed limit and be at risk of getting fined. We’re looking at the benefits of systems which control their speed as a way of preventing that.“We hope that our work will help with technological solutions(解决方案) to ensure that older drivers stay safer behind the wheel.”1.What is the purpose of the Drivel ABA.To explore newmeans of transport.B.To design new types of cars.C.To find out older driver`s problems.D.To teach people traffic rules.2.Why is driving important for older people according to Phil BlytheA.It keeps them independent.B.It helps them save time.C.It builds up their strength.D.It cures their mental illnesses.3.What do researchers hope to do for older driversA.Improve their driving skills.B.Develop driver-assist technologles.C.Provide tips on repairing their cars.anize regular physical checkups.4.What is the best title for the textA.A new Model Electric CarB.A Solution to Traffic ProblemC.Driving Service for eldersD.Keeping Older Drivers on the RoadBWhen I was nine years old, I loved to go fishing with my dad. But the only thing that wasn’t very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I couldn’t catch anything. I usually got pretty upset and kept asking him why. He always answered, “Son, if you want to catch a fish, you have to think like a fish”, I remember being even more upset then because, “I’m not a fish!” I didn’t know how to think like a fish. Besides, I reasoned, how could what I think influence what a fish doesAs I got a little older I began to understand what my dad really meant. So, I read some books on fish. And I even joined the local fishing club and started attending the monthly meetings. I learned that a fish is a cold-blooded animal and therefore is very sensitive to water temperature. That is why fish prefer shallow water to deep water because the former is warmer. Besides, water is usually warmer in direct sunlight than in the shade. Yet, fish don’t have any eyelids(眼皮) and the sun huts their eyes… The more I understood fish, the more I became effective at finding and catching them..When I grew up and entered the business world, I remember hearing my first boss say, “We all need to think like sales people.” But it didn’t completely make sense. My dad never once said, “If you want to catch a fish you need to think like a fisherman.” What he said was, “You need to think like a fish.” Years later, with great efforts to promote long-term services to people much older and richer than me, I gradually learned what we all need is to think more like customers. It is not an easy job. I will show you how in the following chapters.5. Why was the author upset in fishing trips when he was nineA. He could not catch a fish.B. His father was not patient with him.C. His father did not teach him fishing.D. He could not influence a fish as his father did.6. What did the author’s father really meanA. To read about fish.B.

It's these challenges of being brief that McCormack says make brevity an important skill that helps people to standout as being professional.8. What can be learned from Paragraph 2?A. While it's been thought before that the body wants unhealthy snacks for a quick burst of energy to stay awake and alert when your body is tired, new research presented at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society’s meeting in San- Francisco shows that sleep deprivation actually increases the brain's sensitivity(敏感性) to food smells. Astudy done by Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago explains that people who slept only four hours showed greater brain activity in response to food smells, like potato chips and doughnuts, compared to when they'd slept a full eight hours."When tired, people showed greater brain activity in two areas involved in smell - the piriform cortex and the orbitofrontal cortex _ they react more to food smells than they do when well rested. But people didn't respond to nonfood smells," study co-author Surabhi Bhutani said. While this line of research is still ongoing, it's pretty clear that sleep deprivation leads to extra calorie consumption (消耗) and weight gain. So when you re running on a. few hours of sleep (it's not enough), recognize the tricks your brain- is playing on you and make the right decision to eat the healthier food.12.
