S: Yes!T: What’s my family name?S: Your family name is Zuo.T: Yes, I’m Miss Zuo. You have a good memory. You know it’s the first time for me to be here in Wenzhou. In my opinion, Wenzhou is a busy but beautiful city. Do you agree with me?S: Yes.T: Now, I have an old picture to show you. It’s quite different. Please guess where it was.S: It was Wenzhou.T: Wow! Have you seen this picture before?S: Yes.T: You are so lucky! It was Wenzhou one hundred years ago. Please describe this picture. What can you see in it?S: I can see many boats and houses.T: Yes, you’re right! There are many boats in the ocean. And near the ocean, there are many houses. We can call it a “fishing village”. What did the people do to make a living at that time in the fishing village?S: They made a living by fishing in the ocean.T: Great! And also we can say they made a living by catching fish from the ocean. So what do we call the people?S: Fishermen!T: Well done! There were many fishermen in Wenzhou a hundred years ago. But it has changed a lot. Are there many fishermen in Wenzhou now?S: No, there aren’t.T: Let me make a survey. What does your father do?S: He is a worker.T: What is your mother’s job?S: She is a housewife.T: What does your father do?S: He is a businessman.T: Wow. I’ve heard that there are many businessmen in Wenzhou. I hope your fatheris a successful businessman. Is your mother a businesswoman?S: No, she isn’t. She is a nurse.T: I hope there are more and more businesswomen in Wenzhou.Yesterday, I got a story about a businessman and a fisherman. I want to share it with you today.Step 2. Presentation.T: Please read this story quickly and tell me what the main idea is.Skimming: (About 2 minutes)I’ll give you some choices to choose. Which one do you choose?S: I choose C. A businessman gives advice to a fisherman.T: Great! That’s the main idea. So we know in this story there are two characters. They are the businessman and the fisherman. Can you tell me their names?S: The businessman’s name is Martin Lynch.T: How about the fisherman?S: His name is Pablo Perez.T: Let’s read it again carefully. I’ll ask you more questions about them. Scanning: (3 minutes)T: Where were they from?S: The fisherman was from America.T: How do you know?S: In the first paragraph, it is said “an American businessman”.T: Good! He’s from America. But, where was he at that time?S: He was in a small fishing village in Mexico.T: That’s right! Why was here there? Was he doing business there?S: No. He was going on vacation.T: So, we know Mexico is not far from America. So many American businessmen like to go on vacation there. How about the fisherman? Where was he from?S: He was from Mexico.T: How do you know?S: In paragraph 1, it’s said “a local fisherman”. And they were in Mexico. So the fisherman was from Mexico.T: Great! He is a local fisherman in Mexico. What was he doing at that time?S: He was unloading his boat and packing the fish in the box.T: Do you know the meaning of “unload”? I give you three choices to choose.S: I choose A. To take something off.T: Congratulations! You got the right answer. So the fisherman was taking the fish off his boat and packing the fish in the box. Was he happy at that time? How do you know?S: Yes. He was happy. “Martin noticed Pablo was smiling and looked very happy.”T: Why was he happy? Did he catch many fish?S: Yes, he caught several big fish.T: But Martin didn’t think so. He asked Pablo “Why didn’t you stay longer and catch more fish.”S: Because he thought he had enough fish for his family.T: Was fishing the only thing he did in a day? What else did he do?S: He took a nap, played with his children, spent time with his wife, went into the village to see his friends and played cards.T: What did he think of his life?S: He thought he had a full and busy life.T: Did Martin agree with him?S: No, he didn’t.T: So he thought it was not enough. Then what advice did he give Pablo?S: He would work longer hours and catch more fish, then he would get more money. T: Yes. Then what?S: With the extra money, he would buy more boats and catch more fish.T: What happened next?S: By selling the fish, he would open his own factory and sell the fish direct to supermarkets.T: And then? What happened eventually, means finally?S: Eventually, he would have to move to Mexico City and run the business, then sell it to make millions of money.T: Is that all? What’s the best part of life in Martin’s opinion?S: The best part is …T: Let’ compare Pablo’s life. Do you think they were the similar?S: Yes.T: So here we have a chart to show two different views of life. This is the fisher man’s view of life.S: This is the businessman’s view of life.T: OK. We know the story between these two men. Let’s read the story with the tape. (Read with the tape)T: At the end of the story, Martin told Pablo the best part of life. Do you think it’s the whole story?S: No.T: So should Pablo say something to Martin? What will he reply to Martin? Please discuss with you group mates and tell us your ending. You may use one or two sentences.(Discuss about 2 minutes)S1: “That’s what I have now.” the fisherman said.S2: “Are you crazy? At least 15 years? I have already had the best part of my life now.” replied the fisherman.T: Just now we know the writer’s idea, right. In the story, the fisherman thought the businessman’s view is a joke. It’s just a story. But different people have different ideas. Do you want to tell this story to your friends? I’ll give you 3 minutes to prepare. Retell the story. You may choose one view to retell and you can use the chart on the blackboard.S1: There was a Mexican fisherman in a small village. He was very happy every day. He just got enough fish for his family, then took a nap, played with his children, spent time with his wife, and went into the village to see his friends and play cards. He thought he had a full and busy life.S2: An American businessman went on vacation to a small Mexican fishing village. He didn’t think his friend, the fisherman had a busy and full life. He thought if he worked longer hours and caught more fish, he could make more money. With the extra money, he could buy more boats and catch more fish. By selling the fish, he could open his own factory and sell direct to supermarkets. Later, he would probably have to move to Mexico City to run the business. Eventually, he would be able to sell the business and make millions of money. The best part of life is when he was able to retire, buy a house near the ocean, sleep longer, play with his children, spend more time with his wife, see his friends, and play cards.T: Nice pronunciation! Well done! You have known their views very well! So what do you think can make the businessman happy?S: Making more money can make him happy.T: So that’s why he asked the fisherman to catch more fish and make more money. What about the fisherman? What can make him happy?S: I think spending time with his family and friends can make him happy.S: And taking a nap in a day can make him happy.S: Playing cards with his friends can make him happy.T: So the fisherman is easy to be happy. How about you? What can you do to make your life happy? Please discuss with your group mates and tell us.(3 minutes)S: We can study hard to make our lives happy.S: We can sing songs to make our lives happy.S: Spending time with my family can make me happy.S: ……Step 3 Homework:T: Look at this picture. It’s Wenzhou. We know it has changed a lot. As a local student, would you please help me make a survey? In order to know different views of life, I’d like you to ask at least 5 people. I’m sure the people who have different jobs have different ways to make their lives happy. You can send it to me as an e-mail. My e-mail address is zuoln@.

My Best Friend Dan
1.Do you have a best friend in your daily life? 2.What is she/he like?
Did you have your weakest moment? What was it?
由此带出了Dan’s speech for graduation。
Dan’s speech for graduati on,主要是对survive 和tough进行猜测训练。
并且引出文中的一句关键句“Being a friend is the best gift you can give”。
