The red pan has a shorter arm and re-cords temperature. The pens are offset to allow thered pen to glide under the blue pen. The blue penindicates the correct time and the red pen precedesit by 3/16 of an inch.The pens move in increments across the chartas sensor readings change. The display providessmoother and faster readings than the pens.
