Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother。
Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat,but it was not even possible for her, since she had nothing with her。
She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business。
However, with no money in hand, she sighed and had toleave。
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked,“Hey,girl, you want to have the noodles?”“Oh,yes.。
.but I don’t have money on me。

” she replied。
“That’s nothing.I’ll treat you today,” said the man.“Come in。
A new,first-of-its-kind study examines the connection between teacher burnout and students’ stress levels.Researchers from the University of British Columbia collected saliva (唾液) samples from over 400 elementary school children, grades from four to seven,at 17 public schools.Cortisol (皮质醇) levels were then assessed from the samples as the hormone is commonly used as a biological indicator ofstress.Correspondingly, teacher burnout was determined through survey results.Investigators found that in classrooms in which teachers experienced more burnout,or feelings of emotional exhaustion, students’ cortisol levels were elevated (提升).Higher cortisol levels in elementary school children have been linked to learning difficulties as well as mental health problems. The study appears in the journal SocialScience&Medicine.“This suggests that stress contagion (蔓延) might be taking place in the classroom among students and their teachers,” said Eva Oberle,Ph.D.,the study’s lead author.Indeed, the relationship between student stress and teacher burnout is a chicken and egg question.“It is unknown what came first, elevated cortisol or teacher burnout. We consider the connection between student and teacher stress a cyclical problem in the classroom.” Oberle said a stressful classroom climate could be a result of inadequate support for teachers, which may impact teachers’ ability to effectively manage their students.A poorly managed classroom can contribute to students’ needs not being met and increasing stress. This could be reflected in elevated cortisol levels in students.Alternatively, stress could originate from students, who may be more challenging to teach because of increases in anxiety, behavioral problems,or special needs. In this case, teachers could feel overwhelmed and report higher levels of burnout.“Our study is a reminder of the systemic issues facing teachers and educators as classroom sizes increase and supports for teachers are cut,” said Oberle.“It is clear from a number of recent research studies that teaching is one of the most stressful professions, and that teachers need adequate resources and support in their jobs in order to battle burnout and relieve stress in the classroom,” said University of British Columbia education professor Kimberly Schonert Reichl,Ph.D.,the study’s co-author.“If we do not support teachers,we risk the damage of students.”2(2018·浙江新昌中学高三模拟)阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。
The rain came down steady and hard. Jason Storie heard it but was not worried as he prepared for a day of caving with five friends in a remote spot 80 miles northwest of h is home in Duncan, on Canada’s Vancouver Island. It was 6 a.m. on December 5, 2015. As a newcomer to the sport, Jason had gone caving only four times. This would be his toughest outing yet: a cave called Cascade. It was dangerous enough that the entrance was blocked by a locked metal door to keep the casual cavers out. About a mile long and 338 feet deep,Cascade was full of tums and barely passable tight squeezes.Jason was new among the group, with the least experience and, at 43, older by a decade or more. It was his friend Andrew Munoz, 33, who introduced him to the sport. Unlike Jason,Andrew was an expert caver-a former caving guide, actually. They hiked a bit before coming to the door, which sat in the ground—you’d miss it if you weren’t looking for it. It was 10 a.m. With their way lighted by headlamps, they walked down a narrow passage studded with sharp rocks. The silence was broken by adrip-drip-drip from above. Soon the drip turned into a light but steady flow, and they were wading in water up to their ankles, then to their shins. Two hours later, they approached one of the features that made the cave unique: a narrow passage not big enough to stand up in that led into a short, tight downhill. This had a name: Bastard’s Crawl. Four streams met here, and indeed, the water was flowing more quickly. The sound of the water had turned into a roar. When they finally neared the top of the Crawl, there were barely four inches of air left between the water and the ceiling, not enough for them to keep their heads up to breathe. They came to terrifying realization that they were in danger!
