The less knowledge learners in the class, the more opportunities they will be asked to express their own opinions clearly about the same topic. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? It is better for children to choose jobs that are similar to their parents’ jobs than to choose jobs that are very different from their parents’ jobs. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. When choosing a life career, the advice of a parent can be quite decisive. Many parents encourage their children to live the life they themselves have only dreamed of, and try a very different job from their own. Nevertheless, in most cases, I believe it would be more beneficial for the child, the parent and the society alike if children followed in the footsteps of their parents when choosing a job. One of the most obvious reasons is that it paves a more convenient way to success for the children. Children who share similar occupations with their parents can at least inherit the experiences of the parent, which would save them much time and energy along the way. The parents, who have already had decades of trial and failure in the field, would have a clear idea of what kind of knowledge and quality is required for the job. In that case, they would be able to better prepare the children for the job, and give them helpful suggestions along their career development. Moreover, experience is not the only thing children can inherit from their parents. A businessman can provide his son a shortcut to success by leaving him an already well-run company, and a politician can leave his children the connections they would need in order to win sufficient support. Another thing is that a similar career is likely to strengthen the parent-child bond. In such a fast-paced modernized world, parents often complain that they are losing their child to busy schedules and a digital social world they feel distant from. But generation gaps are easily bridged when parents can often exchange career ideas with their children. However different the lifestyles of two generations may be, the questions they have to face in a similar job can always be a good topic of conversation. Personally, I feel closest to my grandfather when he shares with me his frustrations and wisdoms of reporting for a national newspaper before he retired, because I may come across similar challenges in my pursuit of a degree in journalism. He is the first person I turn to whenever I need professional guidance, and I feel like I can always trust him and count on him. It should work the same for most parent-and-child relationships. As a career mentor, a parent can bond with the child in more profound ways. Last but not least, to choose a similar job as the parent is actually a conservation of social resources. As the parent can act as a career mentor for the child, the time and energy spent preparing the novice outside the home can be spared. People would go into the workforce with a rather comprehensive idea of what to expect, and start putting their knowledge and talent into rightful use as soon as possible. Given the three reasons I just illustrated, it can be a smart decision if children choose similar jobs as their parents. It would benefit their personal success, their family relationships, as well as the efficacy of the society.
Marco PoloThe reading passage says that Marco Polo, a V enetian trader and explorer, had traveled to China. The lecturer states her positive opinions in three ways against the naysayers:Firstly, according to the lecturer, the fact that Marco Polo did not mention any Chinese or Mongolian place-names in his books does not necessarily mean that he did not travel to China at all. It was impossible that Marco had borrowed place-names from Persian, which was a common trade language during his period.Secondly, Marco spent most of his time in northern China while the love for tea was only common in southern China 或in the south of China during his period. So it was understandable that Marco did not mention such cultural practice in his books. Finally, there are other explanations, besides that Marco was never appointed in the Chinese court; also we could not find original records in the materials of Chinese or Mongols. It was possible that Marco was referred to different names in those records, which was common in ancient Chinese records. Or the records could be simply missing. In conclusion, the lecturer states his disagreement with the opinion that Marco Polo had never traveled to China.

Three arguments in the passage support that the invasion of zebra mussel to North America can not be stopped and may pose a serous threat to the fish populations. However, these ideas are considered unconvincing by the professor in the lecture.First of all, the author argues that the zebra mussel relies on the ship and can survive in the “ballast water” to spread to new waters and previous spread of the zebra mussel reveals that the species will soon dominate the North America. On the contrary, the professor puts forward that there is an effective way to stop the spread of zebra mussel by ship. For example, in the past, the ships from Europe would carry “ballast water” full of zebra mussel and empty that water in the waterway of North America. But now people can empty that water before arriving at North America and refill with salt water, and hence the salt water in the ocean can kill the zebra mussel.Besides, the passage suggests that often the zebra mussels, having high rate of reproduction, able to survive in various conditions and without natural predators can easily dominate their habitats. By contrast, the professor refutes the idea by claiming that actually it is in the beginning that the zebra mussels have no predators. For example, in Europe, when birds have insufficient food, they would switch their food preference and finally began to eat the zebra mussels. And birds can eat a lot of zebra mussels. Therefore, it is unlikely that the zebra mussels would dominate the habitats. Finally, the author claims that zebra mussels may cause the decline in the overall fish population if they become dominant because they are plankton eaters. However, the professor insists that even if the zebra mussel will have negative influence on the fish eating plankton, the zebra mussel can also have positive effect on other species. For example, the zebra mussels can generate the nutrients that can be eaten by fish living at the bottom of the lake, so the population of bottom feeding fish can increase while the population of plankton-eating fish may decline.。

However, there are doubts whether some paintings attributed to Rembrandt were actually painted by him. One such painting is known as attributed to Rembrandt because of its style, and indeed the representation of the woman’s face is very much like that of portraits known to be by Rembrandt. But there are problems with the painting that suggest it could not be a work by Rembrandt.First, there is something inconsistent about the way the woman in the portrait is dressed. She is wearing a white linen cap of a kind that only servants would wear-yet本范文为粗批版,登陆极智批改网,享受最专业的外教批改服务the coat she is wearing has a luxurious fur collar that no servant could afford. Rembrandt, who was known for his attention to the details of his subjects’ clothing, would not have been guilty of such an inconsistency.Second, Rembrandt was a master of painting light and shadow, but in this painting these elements do not fit together. The face appears to be illuminated by light reflected onto it from below. But below the face is the dark fur collar, which would absorb light rather than reflect it. So the face should appear partially in shadow-which is not how it appears. Rembrandt would never have made such an error. Finally, examination of the back of the painting reveals that it was painted on a panel made of several pieces of wood glued together. Although Rembrandt often painted on wood panels, no painting known to be by Rembrandt uses a panel glued together in this way from several pieces of wood. For these reasons the painting was removed from the official catalog of Rembrandt’s paintings in the 1930s. Professor:Everything you just read about "Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet" is true, and yet after a thorough re-examination of the painting, a panel of experts has recently concluded that it's indeed a work by Rembrandt. Here is why.First, the fur collar. X-rays and analysis of the pigments in the paint have shown that the fur collar wasn't part of the original painting. The fur collar was painted over the top of the original painting about a hundred years after the painting was made. Why? Someone probably wanted to increase the value of the painting by making it look like a formal portrait of an aristocratic lady.Second, the supposed error with light and shadow. Once the paint of the added fur color was removed, the original could be seen, in the original painting, the woman is wearing a simple collar of light-colored cloth. The light-colored cloth of this collar reflects light that illuminates part of the woman's face. That's why the face is not in partial shadow. So in the original painting, light and shadow are very realistic and just what we would expect from Rembrandt. Finally, the wood panel. It turns out that when the fur collar was added, the wood panel was also enlarged with extra wood pieces glued to the sides and the top to本范文为粗批版,登陆极智批改网,享受最专业的外教批改服务make the painting more grand and more valuable. So the original painting is actually painted on a single piece of wood, as would be expected from a Rembrandt painting. And in fact, researchers have found that the piece of wood in the original form of "Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet" is from the very same tree as the wood panel used for another painting by Rembrandt, his "Self-portrait with a Hat".Answer托福综合写作范文The lecture revises the idea presented in the text, that Rembrandt was not the artist who painted the famous painting “Portrait of an Elderly Woman in a White Bonnet.”The inconsistency between the white cap, which identifies the woman as a servant, and the expensive fur collar she wears dissolves as the professor explains that the fur collar was apparently painted over Rembrandt’s original in order to increase its worth by displaying an aristocratic woman. In addition, the assumption that the light and shadows in the painting do not fit together is refuted by the fact that in the original painting the woman wears a light cloth that illuminated her face. Thus, the presentation of light and shadow was indeed very realistic and accurate, as it is characteristic of Rembrandt’s paintings. Finally, the mystery of the panel consisting of patches glued together is also solved in the lecture. The wood panel was actually later enlarged to make it more grand in size本范文为粗批版,登陆极智批改网,享受最专业的外教批改服务and hence more valuable, but the original painting was painted on a single panel, as Rembrandt would have done. Furthermore, the wood was found to be made from the same tree Rembrandt used in many of his other paintings, like the “Self-Portrait with a Hat.”All this information serves to support the argument that Rembrandt was the painter of this controversial work.
Creating a Green Space: The Need for Urban ParksUrbanization has been a global trend in recent years, with more and more people moving from rural areas to cities. While this has brought about economic development and improved quality of life for many, it has also led to the loss of green spaces in urban areas. In light of this, there is a growing need to create and preserve urban parks.First and foremost, the creation of urban parks can greatly improve the physical and mental well-being of city dwellers. In today's fast-paced society, people are often caught up in the hustle and bustle of city life, leaving little time for relaxation and recreation. Having a green space nearby can provide an escape from the concrete jungle and allow individuals to reconnect with nature. Research has shown that spending time in natural environments can reduce stress levels, improve mood, and enhance overall mental health. Additionally, urban parks provide opportunities for physical exercise, which is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.Furthermore, urban parks play a crucial role in mitigating the negative effects of urbanization on the environment. With the rapid expansion of cities, green spaces are disappearing at an alarming rate. This not only leads to the loss of biodiversity but also exacerbates air pollution and contributes to the urban heat island effect. By creatingand preserving urban parks, we can help to counteract these negative effects. Trees and plants in parks absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, and filter pollutants from the air, thus improving air quality. Moreover, parks act as a natural cooling system, reducing the urban heat island effect by providing shade and evaporative cooling. In addition to its environmental and health benefits, urban parks also serve as important social spaces for the community. They provide a venue for people to come together, engage in recreational activities, and build social connections. Parks often host events such as concerts, picnics, and sports competitions, fostering a sense of community spirit and bringing people from diverse backgrounds closer. This sense of community cohesion is vital for creating a harmonious and inclusive society. In conclusion, the creation and preservation of urban parks are essential for the well-being of city residents, the environment, and the community as a whole. By prioritizing the development of green spaces, we can create a more sustainable and livable urban environment. It is crucial for governments and urban planners to recognize the importance of urban parks and allocate resources to their creation and maintenance. Only by doing so can we ensure a healthier and happier future for our cities.。

There are three main points made in this lecture to 1contradicts those discussed in2previous reading part.Firstly, the arguer denies the 3possibiliy that zebra mussels which has reached 4in North America from their original habitat in Europe would be a serious threat to freshwater fish populations in all of North America. As the arguer says, the invasion now could be stopped by controlling the ships which helped spread it out by taking on ballast water. The ships can be required to refresh the ballast water before landing 5on 6the North America,so that the mussels can be thrown away and would not become7invasion in North America.
Secondly, the arguer disapproves of the 8oppion that there are no predators for mussels in their new habitats.Hesugguests that there exists9kinds of local birds which will change their own habits and eat those mussels.
At last, the speaker 10considers that the mussels would not necessarily be negative to the new habitats. Instead, they can become positive
factors11.Because they can provide nutrients for the live creatures 12in bottom sea and feeding them.

总评
You have developed a good analysis of the argument given. The introduction is good but needs further development. “The two pieces present information about Zebra mussel, however, the listening offers counter arguments to the reading passage.”. This is a simple but more advanced introduction. Develop a thes is statement at the end of the introduction. “Though the reading presents worthy views about Zebra Mussels, without good substantiation, it is rendered dilute by the lecture.”. The analysis in the main body is logically well structured. It is commendable that you presented the arguments in the reading before the counter arguments in the lecture. You ought to put the views in separate paragraphs however short, for clear organization. Try to develop good topic sentences at the beginning of the main body paragraphs. The essay lacks a conclusion. There are some grammar errors that need to be addressed. These include formation errors like “in bottom sea.” Make a review of the articles and avoid poor diction. These have affected the coherence of the essay. Try to employ some advanced sentence structures and more vocabulary where possible.
