She Walks In Beauty—— George Gordon ByronShe walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade more, one ray less,Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every raven tress,Or softly lightens o’er her face;Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.And on that cheek, and o’er that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent The smiles that win, the tints that glow. But tell of days in goodness spent,A mind at peace with all below,A heart whose love is innocent!
She Walks in Beautyby Lord Byron She walks in beauty, like the nightOf cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and brightMeet in her aspect and her eyes:Thus mellowed to that tender lightWhich heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less,Had half impaired the nameless graceWhich waves in every raven tress,Or softly lightens o'er her face;Where thoughts serenely sweet expressHow pure, how dear their dwelling place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,The smiles that win, the tints that glow,But tell of days in goodness spent,A mind at peace with all below,A heart whose love is innocent!George Gordon Byron (22 January 1788 –19 April 1824) was an English poet and a leading figure in Romanticism. He is regarded as one of the greatest British poets and remains widely read and influential, both in the English-speaking world and beyond. The first impression that George Byron's "She Walks in Beauty" gives us is "beauty", which is exactly the subject of the poem. On the evening of June 11, 1814, Byron attended a party with his friend at the London home. Among the other guests was the wife of Byron’s cousin, who was newly widowed and wore a black mourning gown brighten with spangles. Her exquisite good looks dazzled Byron and inspired him to write “She Walks in Beauty.”The poem uses images of light and darkness interacting to describe the wide spectrum of elements in a beautiful woman's personality and looks.Today, I will analysis “She Walks in Beauty” from the point of view of stylistics. The poem follows a basic iambic tetrameter. The three six-line stanzas of this poem all follow the same rhyme scheme and the same metrical pattern. There are only six rhymingsounds in this eighteen-line poem because the rhyme scheme flows as ABABAB CDCDCD EFEFEF.The rhyming words themselves, especially in the first stanza, have importance: notice how "night" rhymes with its opposites, "light" and "bright," in the same way that this woman contains the two opposing forces in her particular type of beauty. The poem also shows that it is lyrical which helps to put an emphasis on the mood and tone of beauty that the writer is trying to leave with the reader. There are various examples of alliteration throughout the poem. In line two it states, "Of cloudless climes and starry skies," in which there is a repetition of the "s" sound. The second stanza contains insight into "the dwelling place" of the woman's thoughts, creating an insight into her mind by using alliteration. The repetition of the "s" sounds is soothing in the phrase "serenely sweet express," because Byron is referring to her thoughts, and her thoughts are serene and pure. The whole poem is full of rhythm. Because the poet uses the enjambment, it means that we do not use punctuation between the first and the second lines or thethird and the fourth lines. This enjambment can attract readers to pay attention to some words, like the word “meet”in the fourth line, which has been strengthen. Moreover, there are lots of soft consonants and long vowel in this poem, such as /w/, /i/, /m/ and so on. This way makes the poem more soft and leisurely. There are so many rhetorical devices in this poem. Similes appear in the first sentence “She walks in beauty, like the night of cloudless climes and starry skies”, and then appears personification in this sentence “And al l that's best of dark and bright meet in her aspect and her eyes”, “meet”is used to modify people and people, however, dark and bright at here. Then is emphasize, the author uses repetition to stress the important messages, like “How pure, how dear their dwelling place” and “So soft, so calm, yet eloquent”. Rhetorical devices can make the poem alive and present a picture right before our eyes.To conclude, it is really a beautiful poem with perfect rhyme and language, which gives reader a really beautiful image of a woman. After having read this poem for times, I even can image what the woman that Byron was narrating and how beautiful that woman is. I even can image the serene, peaceful, gentle smile on her face. I can even touch the kindness and innocence deep in the beautiful lady's heart. In a word, all I can image and feel is only one thing that is beauty, which is the subject the poet expected to express. Now, a beautiful lady is walking to us.。

She walks in beauty

(Which waves in every raven tress,Or softly lightens o’er her face;Where thoughts serenely sweet express)让⼈读来犹如置⾝悠扬的⼩提琴声中,娴雅的⼥⼦,优美的乐⾳,让⼈回味⽆穷。

She W alks in BeautyOdes to the beauty seem to be a permanent topic. For instance, the well-known poem, written by Su Shi, a famous poet in ancient China, compares the West Lake to Xi Shi, a famous Chinese beauty in ancient China. Therefore, a famous verse comes into every home, which shows us a beauty, never losing her charming whenever in light makeup or heavy makeup. Likewise, in western country beauty is also a heat topic. The poem she walks in beauty was written by George Gordon Byron, who is one of the most eminent representatives of English Romanticism and one of the most influential poets of the time. This poemis frequently considered one of his most powerful works. It is an eighteen-line poem, much shorter than Byron’s famous narrative poems, like Childe Harold’s Pilgr image or Don Juan. But despite its brevity, She Walks in Beauty has become one of the most well-known and easily recognized poems of Byron’s. I n this essay, we will discuss this poem from three aspects: sense, sight, and sound. It is a lyric poem focusing on the extraordinary beauty of a young lady. The poem was written in an original wife of the author’s cousin. On the evening of June 11, 1814, Byron attended a party with his friend, James Wedderburn Webster, at the London home of Lady Sarah Caroline Sitwell. Among the other guests was the wife of Byron’s cousin, the beautiful Mrs. Anne Beatrix Wilmot, who was newly widowed and wore a black mourning gown brighten with spangles. Her exquisite good looks dazzled Byron and inspired him to write the poem. The w ord “walk” embraces many meanings, out of which is the dynamic beauty that constitutes the most important sense. Moreover, the author employs various methods to form the sense of beauty throughout the poem. She Walks in Beauty presents us a dynamic beauty. The word “walk” in the title brings us into her beauty immediately. Usually, people always describe a lady “beautiful”, but here Byron says that she walks in “beauty”. It seems that everything is attracted by her beauty and it is her beauty that makes everything around shining. It’s not she who dominates her own beauty, but in a natural way that the beauty surrounds her so that her beauty diffuses around. Therefore, she walks in beauty, she walks to everyone and she walks into reality. As readers, we can easily empathy on the author that as if seeing her bathed in pure and bright. Therefore, we walk into a splendid scene together with the author. What leaves me deep impression is the sentence “One shade more , one ray the less, had half impaired the nameles s grace.” It reminds me of Tang Xiaofu in Fortress Besieged, wriiten by Qian ZhongShu. She is so beautiful that any cosmetic is redundant on her natural young face, in that makeup will impair her angelic beauty. The two descriptions achieved the same sense by different methods. “Which waves in every raven tress, or softly lighten o’er her face.” The author catches the details properly. If asked what is the most lovely property of a woman, her wavey hair will tell you everything. The nameless grace is not only in her aspect, but in her tress, like other elegant women, what is different is that her elegance is exceptional sufficiently adding to the distinction of her appearance, lightening her face. While The followingtwo lines focus on her inner beauty. A well-educated lady who grew up culturally expresses her beauty of the mind from her inside, which is underlined by the word “serenely” modifying the word “sweet”.The last stanza mainly concentrates on her inner beauty. Softness, calmness and eloquence melt into her cheek and eyebrows. Likewise, we can say that her cheek and her eyebrows is the dwelling place of her softness, calmness and eloquence. As the dwelling place, her cheek and eyebrows make the abstract things into the concrete things. The double ca pital letters “A” emphasize her peaceful mind and innocent heart, which highlights her holy pure and beauty. The affection of the poet directly outpours in the last. Besides, the praise achieved the peak and the poem ends with it perfectly. Her beauty is like a stream flowing slowly and gradually into our heart, and the verb “walks” carries forward her beauty from the outside into her inside, carrying forward the whole poem.Let’s move into the “sight” in the following. The sights “night”, “cloudless climes” and “starry skies” are impressive. Here is simile. The beauty of Mrs. Anne Beatrix Wilmot is compared to the cloudless and starry sky. Why? The black mourning apparel on her is just like the pure dark sky, peaceful and deep. The sequins glitter like the stars in the sky, intertwining with her eyes. What is ingenious lies in the “dwelling place”, as if her body is so enchanting that her thoughts became a butterfly lived in her body, further explaining how charming she is. Such a beautiful woman possesses the beauty that is admired.Besides, what should not be ignored in this poem is the ways of expressing sound, which is also very ingenious. In this poem, many soft consonants are employed, such as /w/, /i/, /m/ etc. Additionally, many long vowels are also employed to make the pitch of voice sound gentler and softer. And the peaceful quality of the lady is exposed to the slow rhythm and the consonant lyrics, which reveals the highly praise of the poet. This poem is a song of praise, in a unique perspective, the poet describes a flowing beauty, vividly presenting her beauty to us, as if we see her in the reality. And her beauty is not artificial but natural. Besides, she is the dwelling place of the truth, kindness and beauty under the poet’s pen. Through her q uiet face, we can see her pure soul inside.原创。

She Walks in Beauty…She walks in Beauty‟is a poem written by Lord Byron and is considered to have been Byron‟s tribute to the beauty of art [8] The poem was inspired by actual events in Byron‟s life. Once while at a ball Byron happened upon a beautiful woman, his cousin's wife, as she walked by. It is a narrative poem that describes the woman of much beauty and elegance.“She Walks in Beauty” is judged only on her own merits. It is not only her positive qualities that are extolled, though. In addition, Byron alludes that the woman has a shadow side, which also appeals to him and which he finds worthy of mention. In fact, the poem opens with the poet comparing this beauty to a cloudless night with stars, and he openly shares that “…all that's best of dark and bright/Meet in her aspect and her eyes” .Her face contains light alabaster skin, yet has dark hair, and her eyes are dark in the iris in contrast with the white of her eye. This repeat of the contrast between light and dark reinforces the imagery introduced in the beginning of the poem [13]. The poem goes on to say that if she were to have even one bit more light or less dark she would not be ruined but she would be only “half impair‟d” . A nd the poem begins Byron speaks of the woman‟s inner thoughts and how they are all good, Not an ordinary romantic female figure, she is complex and multi-faceted, and Byron is unafraid to search for the beautiful beyond the surface.Lord Byron was an English Romantic poet and satirist whose poetry and personality captured the imagination of Europe. He was most notorious for his love affairs within his family. "Byron's influence on European poetry, music, novels, operas, and paintings have been immense, although the poet was widely condemned on moral grounds by his contemporaries".。

She Walks in BeautyShe walks in beauty, like the nightOf cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that’s best of dark and brightMeet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to that tender lightWhich heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade more, one ray less,Had half impaired the nameless graceWhich waves in every raven tress,Or softly lightens o’er her face;Where thoughts serenely sweet expressHow pure, how dear their dwelling-place.And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,So soft, so calm, yet eloquentThe smiles that win, the tints that glow. But tell of days in goodness spent,A mind at peace with all below,A heart whose love is innocent!

“She walks in beauty”
She Walks in BeautyShe walks in beauty, like the nightOf cloudless climes and starry skies; And all that's best of dark and brightMeet in her aspect and her eyes:Thus mellowed to that tender lightWhich heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less,Had half impaired the nameless graceWhich waves in every raven tress,Or softly lightens o'er her face;Where thoughts serenely sweer expressHow pure, how dear their dwelling place. And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,The smiles that win, the tints that glow,But tell of days in goodness spent,A mind at peace with all below,A heart whose love is innocent!
诗的第二部分,“One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace”。
“on that cheek, and o’ver that brow, so soft,so calm, yet eloquent”写出了夫人眼中流露出来的既温柔又睿智的目光,同时一句“the smiles that win... but tell of days in goodness spent”道出了霍顿夫人恬静脸庞上流露出的内心的灵动和善良。
第二部分,诗人在第一句“one shade the more, one ray the less”用了排偶的手法,用对比意象“shade 和ray”来表示霍顿夫人黑色的衣服和她白皙闪耀的美。
接着是一些虚拟意象“days in goodness, mind at peace, heart”。
