The Person I Admire Most: Yuan Longping

Hi everyone! Today I want to tell you about the person I

admire the most. His name is Yuan Longping and he's a really

smart scientist from China who helped make better food for

people!

You see, Mr. Yuan was born a long time ago in 1930 in a

place called Beijing. When he was young, times were very hard

because there wasn't enough food for everyone. A horrible thing

called famine happened where millions of people starved. Mr.

Yuan didn't want people to go hungry anymore.

So when he grew up, he became a scientist who studied

plants and how to grow more food. He had an amazing idea -

what if we can get plants to make more seeds? That means more

food for everyone to eat! But changing how plants grow is super

hard. It took Mr. Yuan and his team many many years of trying. Finally, after working really really hard, they did it! In 1973,

they made a new type of rice plant that makes way more rice

than normal plants. It's called hybrid rice. With hybrid rice,

farmers can grow enough rice to feed way more people. Mr.

Yuan's hybrid rice helped end hunger for millions in China and

other countries too!

But Mr. Yuan didn't stop there. He kept working for over 60

years, trying to make hybrid rice better and better. He wanted to

make sure everyone had enough delicious healthy food. By 2017,

his hybrid rice was planted on over 25 million acres of land!

That's like planting rice across an area twice the size of all of

England. Amazing right?

I really admire Mr. Yuan because he never gave up on his

dream, even though it took many decades of very hard work. He

is humble and kind, and only cared about helping others rather

than getting rich or famous. Without his hybrid rice, so many

people might have starved.

Mr. Yuan won many awards and honors for his amazing work

from China and around the world. But I think the best honor is

that millions of people have enough to eat because of him. He

helped make the world a better place. I hope when I grow up, I can be as smart, hardworking and

caring as Mr. Yuan Longping. He is my biggest hero and role

model. If we all put in our best effort and never give up on our

dreams like Mr. Yuan, I know we can make the world an even

more awesome place!

Mr. Yuan was born in a teeny tiny village in 1930. When he

was just a kid, there wasn't always enough food for his family.

This made him really sad. So when he grew up, he decided to

become a super genius plant scientist!

His biggest achievement was creating the first ever hybrid

rice in 1973. Hybrid rice grows way better and produces way

more grains than regular rice. It's like it's on special rice steroids or something! Because of Mr. Yuan's hybrid rice, millions of

people who didn't have enough to eat before could finally get

full tummies. How awesome is that?

Mr. Yuan worked really really hard his whole life to keep

improving hybrid rice. Even when he was super old, he never

stopped trying to make better rice for the world. To me, that's

the definition of a true hero. He put others before himself and

never gave up on his dream.

I admire Mr. Yuan because he was crazy smart, persistent as

can be, and most importantly, he had a huge heart that wanted

to help feed the hungry. The world desperately needs more kind,

brilliant people like him. He's living proof that one person really

can make a difference!

So that's why Yuan Longping is the person I admire more

than anyone else. He used his amazing brain to make the world a

better, less hungry place. How cool is that? We should all take

inspiration from his hard work, kindness and never-give-up

spirit!

今天下午，我和同学们一起去拜访“杂交水稻之父”袁隆平，一路上，我的心情忐忑不安：这位解决了世界十几亿人粮食问题的老人究竟是什么模样呢？究竟他的一生又经历了什么呢？我很想一探究竟，弄个明白。

闻名不如见面，袁隆平爷爷满目慈祥、平易近人，脸上布满沧桑，额头满是皱纹，似乎可以看出他的人生经历肯定不平凡，也看得出他经历了一道一道的坎，才取得了今天的成功，从他的讲解中可以略窥一二：1953年，袁隆平爷爷大学毕业，1960年，中国发生了全国性的大饥荒，有次他远远地看到马路边围了一堆人，走近一看，路边横躺着两具骨瘦如柴的尸体，此事深深刺激了袁隆平，他决意在农业科研上搞出点名堂来。在接下来的时间里，他坚持了六年时间才找到了培育杂交水稻的突破口。十三年过后，1973年10月，袁隆平发表了题为《利用野败选育三系的进展》的论文，正式宣告我国籼型杂交水稻“三系”配套成功。人生到底有几个十三年啊！只有坚持自己理念的人，不断的坚持走下去，才能取得胜利。
