新加坡的基础教育全球顶尖，这已是一个公认的事实！但具体为何顶尖，到底顶尖在哪里呢？我们就先从从新加坡小学生的一张课表说起。
新加坡小学生的课程表7：30升旗8：00-9：30第一节课通常是英语或华文9：30-10：00课间休息可以去食堂买饭吃东西，也可以去操场玩。
10：00-13：30第二节课包括英语/华文/数学/音乐/艺术/公民教育……（只换老师，孩子们不动。
有时上华文/艺术之类的课程需要换教室，那走路的几分钟就是孩子们难得的休息时间。
）13:30下课，孩子们就要去赶校车。
到家大约14:00上课时间少，自由时间多从课表中不难看出，新加坡小学阶段的学习时间比较短，基本上为半天授课，其余时间为素质型的课外活动。
比如设计与工艺、美术与劳作、体育与音乐等，几乎每所学校的课外活动都有几十种。
新加坡的教学是真正体现了以“学生为主体”的思想，学生拥有较多的自由时间来发展自身的兴趣爱好。
课程内容先进，超越时代在课程内容方面，新加坡近年实施了“智慧国”计划，力图以科技来带动新加坡的教育发展。
目前小学四、五年级，以及初中一、二年级的学生已经加入到该计划，尝试以趣味的方式来教导学生如何进行程序设计；2017年起新加坡所有的小学生将被纳入“编码乐”的课程范围，而且会用平板电脑来指导学习。
