情态动词的特殊用法
除了本身的常规用法外，有些情态动词例如：should、must、will 和can，还有一些比较特殊的用法。了解了这些情态动词的特殊用法之后，可以更好的理解这些情态动词所在的语言情景。
一.特殊用法
1. should 表示“竟然”
should可以用来表示说话人对某件事情难以置信，带有一种很“惊讶”的感情色彩，常翻译为“竟然”。
You can’t imagine that a well-behaved gentlemen should be so rude to a lady.
你真无法想象，一个举止优雅的绅士竟然会对一个女子态度如此粗鲁。
It is ridiculous that we should be short of water in a country where it is always raining.
在经常下雨的国家，我们竟然会缺水，这简直是荒谬。
2. must表示“偏偏，偏要”
①表示一个人所做的事情让对方不太满意，有“偏偏，偏要”之意。
Thank you to stop talking. Why must you interrupt me while I’m speaking.
拜托你别说了，你为什么偏偏在我说话的时候打断我呢？
Must you make so much noise?
你就非得弄出这么大的声音吗?
②表示“巧合”，说明某事发生得不早不迟，就在某个当紧的时候，多指某些不受欢迎的事情的发生。
The car must break down just we were starting our holidays.
我们刚刚开始休假，汽车偏偏坏了。
Just when I was busy, the neighbor must come and chatter.
正当我忙碌的时候，邻居偏偏过来聊天。
3.will 表示“总是会，老是，就是”
表示某种倾向或习惯性动作，意为“总是会，老是，就是”。否定结构意为“不能，不肯”这种用法并不指将来时间，不能和表示将来时间的的状语连用。will 指现在，would指过去。—What’s the matter with the door? 这门怎么回事？
—It won’t lock.就是锁不上。
No matter what I said, he wouldn’t listen to me.
无论我说什么，他就是不听。
4. can表示“有时会，可能会”
can表示“推测意义”时，通常用于否定句和疑问句中，但在以下情况下，可以用于肯定句。
①表示理论上的可能性，即从理论上分析是可能的，但实际上未必会发生。
Even experienced teachers can make mistakes.
即使是有经验的教师也可能出错。
Smoking can cause cancer.
抽烟可能会导致癌症。
②表示一时的状况，意为“有时会”。
My father can be very unreasonable.
我父亲有时候很不讲道理。
Scotland can be very warm in September.
九月的苏格兰有时会非常暖和。
