Ningbo is a seaport which has a population of 2,182,000. It is situated in northeastern Zhejiang province, China, lying south of the Hangzhou Bay, facing the East China Sea to the east.Ningbo is a very important economic centre and port city and also the exporter of consumer products. City's economy grew to 343.3 billion RMB in 2007. The city's per capita output was $8,026, more than three times the national average.It is a monsoon climate featured with temperate and humid weather and four distinct seasons. It’s pleasure to visit here especially in Spring and Autumn. The air condition is good compared with most areas of the continental China.One of the points that I am pretty proud of is that Ningbo has been listed as ten of the most felicity-possessing cities in China for several years. And the program is mainly judged by the condition of environment, living standard, facilities through the citizen s’voting.Stepping on the land, I can sometimes feel the ancient cultural atmosphere, as if I were walking through the corridor of the old history time.Ningbo was one of China's oldest cities with a history dating back to 4800 B.C. The Hemudu culture, is one of the earliest cultures to cultivate rice. Most of the artifacts discovered at Hemudu consist of animal bones, used for cultivating rice. The culture also produced lacquer wood. The remains of various plants, including water caltrop, acorns, beans, and bottle gourd, were found at Hemudu. People there are likely domesticated pigs and dogs and also fished and hunted, as evidence by the remains of bone harpoons and bows and arrowheads. Some of the villiages’homes are offered as small inns. And it makes the visitors feel fresh because the house is wood building, somehow like the antient style.From the Tang Dynasty, China has become a well-known international trading port. At present there are many cultural relics in the territory, total of 215 heritages. One of the most representative one is the BaoGuo Temple.Baoguo Temple is a thousand-year-old renowned temple and one of the first cultural relic sites designated to be specially preserved in China. The Grand Hall in Baoguo Temple is one of the oldest and best-preserved wooden structures in South Yangtze region of China, invaluable to the nation's architectural studies. Its roof is firmly fixed by the traditional Chinese architectural technology. Eight large upright beams, slightly inclined towards the middle of the hall, bear the total weight of 50 tons of the building. On the ceiling of the hall are three well-like hollows connected with the whole frame, cleverly concealing the skeleton-like beams. The unique style of the temple represents the huge wisdom of our ancestors, which makes it one of the places of interests that you must visit.This land has also given birth to the number of outstanding heroes, poets, artists. There is on person that must be mentioned :Chiang Kai-shek, KMT leader and the military strongman.Early in the 20th century when Chiang Kai-Shek came to power as head of the Nationalist government in China. Xikou, as his hometown, became an attraction to a large number of his admirers. There are many scenic spots around the town and let the visitors to memorize the past history and the spirits of their family.All of these events, the great contribution, the deep cultural collections, are now in the collectionof floor---Tianyi Pavilion. It is the oldest collection of buildings which is also Ningbo's best tourist attraction.Built in 1516, the library, which has survived 430 years, is the oldest existing private library of China and Asia. It was founded by Ming official Fan Qin and included woodblock and handwritten copies of the Confucian classics, rare local histories and lists of the candidates successful in imperial examinations. Nowadays you can visit the library's garden and outhouses, some of which contain small displays of old books and tablets. It's quite a charming place and the gold-plated, wood-paneled buildings, their bamboo groves still preserve an atmosphere of seclusion and contemplation.Ningbo is also a landscape of mountains and rivers, a beautiful tourist city. Dongqian Lake is a lake lying in the southeast of Yinzhou District. It is the largest natural freshwater lake in Zhejiang province with a water surface area of 20 square kilometers. It is surrounded by so many mountains in all directions that the mountains and the lake crisscross in turn forming a copy of beautiful mountain and water Chinese drawing.As for those children and childish adults, the FengHuang(phoenix) mountain theme park is the best choice. The zone includes World Square, Demon Village, Phoenix Castle and Exploration Tour. The most renowned ones are glue pudding(Tangyuan), wine prawn, and the salted eggs with pumpkin. actually don’t know clearly about where the last dish is originally from. But apart from that it mixs the sweet taste with salty flavor and is really yummy.When you get tried after a whole day’s journey, a comfortable and relaxing hotel is the most concerned thing for visitors. I’m the local person in Ningbo, so today I will talk about local specialty and places of interest in Ningbo.As we know, Ningbo is a beautiful city bordering on the East China Sea. And it is located in the middle of the mainland coast-line and the south of Yangtze [ˈjæŋtsi] River Delta. Ningbo is indeed an important port city in China and the economic center of South Yangzi River Delta.First of all, I want to introduce some local specialties in Ningbo. It is widely known that Ningbo is famous for its seafood, such as Samoan [səˈməuən] crab、Mud snail and so on.Samoan crab(or green crab) is the famous seafood of Ningbo. It’s big in size and quite tasty, which is usually seen on the dining table, especially when it is in Spring Festival.Mud snail, is a local specialty of Ningbo, which looks very especial in its shape. Mud snails can be seen in the coastal areas of Ningbo.Besides, Ningbo snacks are also very famous and popular in China. Such as sweet dumpling、rice cake、Xi kou Qian ceng Cookie and so on.I think sweet dumpling is one of the main snacks in Ningbo and it has a long history. In our tradition, we usually taste sweet dumpling when it is in Lantern festival, which blesses every family to make a reunion [ˌri:ˈju:niən].And for rice cake, it can be seen in snack bars everywhere. I think most people like it and sometimes we regard it as main food. The meaning of rice cake is to make your study or career better year by year.Xikou Qianceng Cookie is a traditional snack of Xikou, Fenghuan, the hometown of Chiang Kai Shek. It is squared with 27 layers of golden color. It is sweet and a bit salty and delicious.Where you can eat authentic food in Ningbo, it is called “Gang ya gou”. There is one in Tianyi square, which is only 400m from Web School. In Gang ya gou, you can taste different kinds of local authentic food.In addition, Ningbo also has beautiful places of interest.Secondly, let me introduce some famous places of interest in Ningbo.Hemudu Relics, which is located in Hemudu village in Yuyao city, has been verified to have a history of 7000 years. From the site, large amount of rice, animals’remains, fruits, wooden buildings, thousands of ceramic [siˈræmik] vessels and handicraft have been dug. This proves that Ningbo is the first place to grow rice. Like the Yellow Valley, Yangtze Valley is also the origin of Chinese brilliant culture.Tianyige museum is in urban district, which is the oldest private library in our country. It is also one of the earliest three family libraries in the world. Tianyige museum is a comprehensive library collecting books with culture of social history, art and so on.
