Today’s US teenagers who get an allowance(零用钱) at all usually get US$50 a week for movies, music and junk food. A national study published recently by Ohio State University found that half of the teens asked got no ―monetary transfer (转让)‖ at all. The study included a set amount handed out regularly, occasional spending money of gifts. Of those who got regular allowances, some reported getting more than US$200 a week. The US$50 figure is the median. That translates into about US$1.05 billion available for spending each week by 9.8 million US teenagers, the researchers concluded. The study is part of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth, a federally funded 1997 survey of 8,984 randomly(随意 的) chosen young people aged 12 to 18. Teens in households with annual earnings of less than US$20,000 receive US$12 to US$14 a week, compared with US$175 for teens in households where incomes top UD$100,000. The more children in a family, the smaller the allowance, the study found. Cara Banbury, 15, said her parents give her about US$20 weekly for movies and food, but it’s not enough. ―I feel like I need more because it’s more expensive to do things now,‖ she said. ―They don’t understand that.‖ 68. Baker Pupil’s Name: Simon Watkins Term: Summer 2005 Form: ⅣB Subject English Mathematics History Exam 59 77 46 Class work 61 85 53 Comments Simon has reached a satisfactory standard but now needs to apply himself with more determination. Sound work and progress throughout the year. Well done! A disappointing exam result. He is unable to give attention to this subject for long. His obvious ability in the subject was not fully reflected in his exam work ,but I have high hopes for him nevertheless. An excellent term’s performance. He goes from strength to strength. A born scientist, I feel. This time next year he will be taking the ―0‖ exam. He needs to concentrate on the work, not on class conversation. Clearly he didn’t bother to revise. His general attitude is far too casual. Weak. It’s time he exercised his body more and his voice less. He should try to work with a team. HEADMASTER I shall be keeping an eye on his progress in his weaker subjects though his success in the sciences is
