Ten-year-old Orion Jean has always known that kindness is important.He oftenpracticed it by volunteering with his
family.But last year,after entering the NationalKindness Speech Contest,he became crazy about it.Now he works to

After a teacher told him about the speech competition,Orion had only 24 hours to write,memorize,and record his

also organized several events in his community.In all,hecollected more than 100,000 meals!

How good are you at maths?Some people enjoy working out number puzzles.Butmany fear the moment when they have
to deal with numbers and figures and feel a realsense of worry and confusion.It may make us feel less confident,but this
"maths anxiety"
is normal.And anyway,our worries and fears don't necessarily reflect our ability.
The problem really starts in childhood,at school.Research has found that mathsteachers who are nervous about teaching
the subject can pass on their anxiety to the pupils,and girls may be more likely to be affected.The Programme for
International StudentAssessment found around 31%of 15 and 16-year-olds across 34 countries said theygot very nervous
doing maths problems,33%said they got anxious doing mathshomework,and nearly 60%said they worried maths classes
would be difficult.Shulamit,a professor from Boston University,said she believes giving students,particularly girls,good
role models "is extremely important,especially at a young age".She thinks the keyis to get people,especially women,who
love teaching maths to younger children.
Writing for BBC Future,David Robson says“It'snot.clear why maths stirs up somuch fear compared to geography.But the
fact that there's a right or wrong answermight make you more worried about poor performance."And once we assume
we'renot a "maths person",we keep away from solving things that we probably could do.
Psychologists(心理学家)have been trying to work out why mental arithmetic(心算)can bring us out in a sweat.That seed
of fear may come from many sources,but somesuggest that expressing your fears clearly can reduce their effects on
you,and encourage
children to see a maths test as a challenge,not a threat.Anyway,we need to thinkpositively about maths and give it a second chance.
