A Word that Has Changed the WorldHumanity—a Word that Revives Man’s Conscience Distinguished friends, ladies and gentlemen,Good morning! What a piece of work is man; how noble in reason; how infinite in faculty, in form and moving how express and admirable; in action how like an angel; in apprehension how like a god! When we hear the above lines from Hamlet we might deem them undoubtedly as the declaration of humanity. They are no differences from the trumpets for the toppledown of the dominance of divinity; they are torches to light the darkness and impetus to awaken human conscience on reason. In appreciation of the beauty of man and greatness of humanity, the world stepped on the road of the revival of cherishable cultural heritage and departed with no turning back from the mysterious world. God’s absolute authority gave way to earthly one, unselfish sacrifice for religion was replaced by heartfelt devotion to the progress of human race and ode to God was transferred to songs of man’s dignity andelegance.Without the awareness of humanity, there is no possibility for the birth of Mona Lisa, whose quietly folded hands, whose gaze that is directed at the observer and the ambiguity of the smile, have been yearned for and dreamed of by many a generation;Without the awareness of humanity, there is no chance for the emergence of Moses, David,Sistine frescoes and School of Athens;Without the awareness of humanity, Copernicus could never have set up the heliocentric theory; Galileo could have not proved the invalidity of Ptolemaic system; Kepler’s Laws would have been buried in the ruins of history; Newton’s universal gravitation would have been criticized as heresy.Ladies and gentlemen, the emphasis on humanity is the bulwark of human progress, it is the watershed of ignorance and intelligence and the engine to drag the train of history out from the valley of obscurity to the road of brightness and enlightenment.Let humanity be, and all is light! Thanks for your attention.A Word that Has Changed the WorldThinking—a Word that Separates Wisdom from StupidityDistinguished judges, ladies and gentlemen,Good morning! The other day I came across a handsome guy by the lake in our campus. His voice, shouted at the top of his lungs, might have spurred the sleeping fish deep at the bottom out of the surface of water and inspired the leaves of trees nearby to wave at the gale of hurricanes from the Carribean Sea. He was so devoted and so breathless that I was pulled by my curiosity to approach and ask him. “I really admire at your spirit of learning, what are you engaging in then?”“I am speaking English,”he responded. “What’s it about?”“I don’t know and I don’t care, but I have done what I can,”was his reply. I was stunned to hear that.Dear friends, what amazement he might have brought us!English, quite similar to other sciences, is a complex and ever-changing world, if one were to attain realknowledge about it, he might have been successful only if he approached English by applying the way of observation, questioning, experiment and calculation. Descartes says, “I doubt, therefore I think; I think, therefore I am.”Learning without thinking leads one to nowhere and thinking without learning leaves one puzzled.Maybe some of us might rebuke me by saying that practice makes perfect and the courage and diligence of the guy should be given an incentive. To be frank, I don’t want to satirize him for he might be taken as an example of enthusiasm and positiveness. What I am trying to say here at the moment is that a wise man puts his mouth deep in his heart yet a fool one wears his heart at his mouth. Speaking without thinking is more like physical exercises than mental perfection.Rodin is famous for his wisdom because The Thinker he sculpts shows to advantage the durable power of thoughts; Michelangelo is towering in the field of arts because art is to him the means by which he expresses his vision of man, man’s beauty, his own anguish and energy, a means by which he makes inquiry into thereality.Thinking is the word that has made the world from primitive ignorance into modern civilization and it is the most effective tool to separate wisdom from stupidity. Thanks a lot.A Word that Has Changed the World Globalization—a Tool to Diminish Cultures Distinguished friends, ladies and gentlemen,Good morning! If you have any interest in listing out the most heated words in the new decade, globalization might be on the top. But if you take a look at the screen of TV, you may easily detect that nearly all programs, even popular ones, are no exception than grapes from the same vineyard; if you, with high expectation and ernest desire, spend time and money to visit a new city, you might nine in ten times be depressed in finding that compared with other cities you have been to there are no slightest scraps of uniqueness and attraction concerning the scenery, the food, the stores or even the dressing styles of the local people. We have heard too much of the benefits of globalization. But if it is in the price of extinction of cultures, where does its advantage lie?We are forced to assimilate to other countries. In the name of counterterrorism, we have to standby and witness the sabotage of former friendly regimes although we know we have been away from the principles of peaceful coexistence; For the purpose of abiding by accepted international practices, we are in great reluctance to buy national loans issued by other countries and let those in need sweltering in the heat of utter poverty; In order to be regarded as responsible, we unwillingly close down those mills and factories that are incompatible with the international standard and make our beloved brothers and sisters be layoffs although the fortune they possess is inadequate even for their present needs; With the intention of making our kids global citizens, we parents impel them into various classes with the hope that they will be more superior to Mozart, Da Vinci, Tchaikovsky and Chomsky and will surely be popular when they are grown up.Ladies and gentlemen, globalization has made our lives more convenient, but if it is in violation of diversity, if it is in destruction of richness of cultures, I am not ready to embrace it.Thanks for your attention.A Word that Has Changed the World Equality—A Human Dream to be Realized Distinguished judges, ladies and gentlemen,Good morning! It is reported that several weeks ago an outstanding professor from a famous university announced in class that those students who didn’t buy i-pads had no chance of passing the course he conducted.I firmly believe that very professor wants to raise the interest of his students and keeps them in pace with the modern world. Maybe it’s better for him to use his i-pad to send an e-mail directly to President Obama and ask his majesty to be generous and kind-hearted in granting every Chinese an i-pad of the latest version in compensation for the loss of fortune we have suffered from American financial crisis. But my dear friends, that very professor is ignorant of one simple word—equality, equality of education, equality of freedom in choosing the way of studying endowed to every student.I just want to remind that very professor some facts:There is in equality as in innocence and virtue a satisfaction one can only feel in their enjoyment and a pleasure which can cease only when lost. Patrick Henry knows it, he says “Give me liberty, or give me death!”Gibran knows it, he writes”Life without equality is like a body without spirit.”We Chinese were humiliated by the notice “No dogs, nor Chinese, are allowed to enter!” on our own territory in the colonial era.We were deterred by attacks of nuclear warheads only because we’d supported our neighbor country for our own survival. We were forced to buy national loans of other nations, or financial i-pads, more exactly, because we might never share equality with them if we didn't.Ladies and gentlemen, equality, just like medicine, the test of its value is not in its taste, but in its effect. Every student, no matter what family background he has, has the unalienable right of pursuing knowledge in the preferable way; no one, no matter how renowned he might be, has the power to deprive the students of that privilege. Never!Thank you!A Word that Has Changed the WorldTry—A Word Entitled to WinnersDistinguished friends, ladies and gentlemen,Good morning!Losers are fond of finding excuses and the word that hangs on their lips most often is “if”. That word is the most effective means for them to complain about everything, like bad luck, awful environment, miserable family background, evil opponents, impotent partners or whatsoever. The most frequently uttered sentences by them are “If I had not done that, if I had not married that woman, if I had chosen another position, if I had been a little bit diligent…”Winners are not born successful, the word that they are interested in saying is “try”, which is quite contrary to “if”. The sentences that usually flash across their minds are “Next time I’ll try to do that the other way round, next time I’ll try not to miss the person I really cherish, I’ll try to be more outstanding on that positon, I’ll try to work harder and harder still…”Ladies and gentlemen, a man’s success is largely determined by one’s attitude rather than by one’s affluency or poverty. If one’s soul is immersed in the water of regrets and sorrows, his mind will surely be occupied with misery and tragedy. They will, like cumulative poison, wear away his will ceaselessly, consume his happiness unconsciously and decrease the opportunity of his success by and large. They are to some extent no different from tiny ant cells on the solid bank of life and will eventually be overwhelmed by huge waves when all is late.Forget about “if” and keep the word “try” in mind, this is the only way to muster one’s courage and confidence. The word “try” is essentially the sunlight, air and water in one’s life. Learn to be optimistic about the future and always remind of the importance of “next time”and remember to strive for personal dreams wholeheartedly and don't ever chain oneself with “if’. This is the secret of winners and this is good medicine to cure regrets and sorrows.Cherish every opportunity and the reward will be abundant. Thanks for your attention!。
AWord Change The WorldIn my opinion, if there is one word that has changed the world, I think, should be apple. Then, when I mentioned apple, what's the first thing you thought?A kind of fruit?Or your mobile phone? In fact, there are three "apples" changed the world. The first "apple" belongs to Eve.From the moment, she took off the apple, the human beings has tied closely. This kind of fruit since then is symbolic, represents a generation of human renegade fixed model of hard work. The world changed from then. The second "apple" belongs to Isaac Newton. One day, Newton was lying in an apple tree, and reading his book. When he turned the pages, the top of his head in the branches have something shook up. One of history's the most famous apples fell down, hit the 23-year-old Newton's head, inspired him. Then , the law of universal was discovered.Of course, it also left a beautiful trace in the way of human beings to explore the world and changed the world.Steve Jobs's apple is the third "apple".People fanaticized for the apple. The apple with a bite, has become a fashionable pronoun, led a touch screen phone revolutionApple launches the iPod in October of 2001.This was not just a music player. The amazing little device holds over 1000 songs. It fits right in people's pocket. It was something that you wanted to touch it ,and interacted with it.On January ,2007, the iPhone came on the marketplace it totally blew the market away. You could do anything you want on it.An iPod,a phone and an internet communication.Together these all. This is one device! And we call it ,iPhone. On January , 2010,the iPad was produced.People don't know they wanted it or need it,and turns out they did. It's kind of like, well,we're gonna make a protable music player. From iPod to iPhone and iPad, I believe no one can deny that the great influence of Applle.Whether it is the Eve's or Newton's apple,or Steve Jobs's Apple,as far as I'm concerned , all changed the world. So,that's my opinion, the word "apple" has changed theworld.Don't you agree with me?部分单词注释Symbolic英音:[sim'bɔlik]美音:[sɪm'bɑlɪk]形容词a.1.象征的,象征性的;作为象征的[(+of)]The snake is symbolic of evil.蛇象征邪恶。
勇气主题的英文演讲稿带翻译篇一:英语演讲稿——勇气A Word That Has Changed The WorldCourageFirst I'd like to tell you one thing happened before I stood here. After I signed up for this speech contest, I heard that those who are frigging awesome in our school all participated in this contest and they said they do it just for fun. Maybe they don't know their fame is out, but this scared me .once there was a moment I want to quit .what a stupid thought. But the most important is, now I'm here, because of courage.Write a letter to your dream girl or boy and declare your heart. That is courage.Say no to your teacher in his class when you have a different pinion. That iscourage. After failing several times in the CET-4 exam, who still hands in the entry fee resolutely, that is courage. In a word, courage is: A man does what he must in spite of personal consequence, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures.Courage means opportunity. These days, many people are talking about the death of Steve Jobs, especially the iphone fans. Fronkly speaking, I admire him for pulling all of his energy and property into his dream of establishing a computer company to which all the friends hold positive attitude. Maybe before a person get succeed, he is more than brave, it’s stubborn in others’eyes. It's said that "The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for circumstances they want, and if they cannot findthem .they make them.”His courage creates the opportunity, That's whyhe captured the market vacancy.Courage means insistence. Here I want to talk a famous entrepreneur with you, Ma Yun the CEO of Corporation. We all know ,it's just one of its subsidiaries. He is not a genius, and doesn't have a excellent background, actually he is a little be dull. He said "I am born with a little head so can't handle two things at the same time ,if you give me 3 ,it seems to kill me .he evendon't get a decent degree. What dive him to success? insistence and courage. There are so many successful people in the world, not because he does better than you, but simply because he daresto .Courage means hope. All of us still remember what happened on 12thMay .mentioned the earthquake in Wen Chuan, now what came into your mind? Grieve, disastrous destruction, sympathy? No, as one who experienced theearthquake, I want to say, it’s courage. Maybe lot of people will go with out their lover or their families in the rest life time, maybe the sunflowers in the yard which bloom every summer will never been seen again ,it doesn't matter ,what matters is new houses and towns were built up on the ruins after severalyears ,what matters is we can still hear the sounds from the class room window as one falls another rises. What matters is when passing by neighbour's house after work, we still can smell food cooking in the kitchen. Because of courage, there is hope, although earthquake is terrible, we can make a brilliant future.Courage, a meaningful word, it brings opportunity, give insistence, lead to the beautiful future, courage changes the world slowly and quietly. Can you feel it?篇二:关于勇气的英语演讲稿关于勇气的英语演讲稿honorable judges, distinguishedguests, ladies and gentlemen:it is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the english language.about a year and a half ago, i took part in my very first english speech contest. when i stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, i could hardly speak. i stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say. my fears had paralyzed me.while my passion for english has never changed, i lost my courage to speak in public. when my professor again encouraged me to take part in this competition, i said “no.”i couldn’t endure yetanother painful experience. he looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. i will never forget his words. “look,”he said, “we all have our fears, and you have yours. you could twist your ankle in abasketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again. running away can never dispel yourfears, but action will. a winner is not one who never fails, but one who never quits.”i spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in mymind. then i made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: i would face my fears –and take part in the competition!as it turned out, my dear old professor was right. now, here i am, once again standing before a microphone. my heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, i have faced my fears -- and that makes all the difference!尊敬的法官,各位来宾,女士们,先生们:这是一个非常荣幸和高兴地在这个美丽的周六早上与大家分享生活和对英语的热情在这里我的情绪。
A word that has changed the worldIn this world, we always regard profits or money as everything in their life most of the time. But we always forget these profits when we are at home with our family. Because home is a place full of love. And there is the most real, purest love. So I think the word love has changed the world.Love makes us respect each other. Love that we give to each other makes us feel happy. Love can give us confidence and courage to do something we are afraid of. It even gives us the power to overcome difficulties. Martin Luther King said "Hatred ['heitrid]paralyzes ['pærəlaiz] life ,love releases it. Hatred confuses life, love harmonizes ['hɑ:mənaiz]it. Hatred darkens life, love illuminates [i'lju:mineit]it."Every time we are in difficulty, we always think of the person who we love most--- parents, lover or best friends. They always give us warm hugs. They are always there with us in silence. The power of life is that we want to let ourselves and the people we love most get happiness. Love does not need commitment. It just need we believe in each other. Many of us keep working in offices just because we want to make a better life for our family. Many times we want to give up, they give us energy. Every time we feel exhausted (筋疲力尽), they prepare a sanctuary(避难所) for us.Love shines the most beautiful light of humanity, we born in it, we live by it. Love brings us warmth in the fearful coldness, love brings usbright when life gets hard and dark. Love brings us confidence toward life when we are tired out and want to give up. Love deserves all the admiring words. In a word, no body can live without love, just like no fish can live without water. That is what love is all about in my eyes. So I think it’s love that can changed the world.因为love这个主题太大范围太广了,我也就本着尊重原著的原则给这片文章加加减减,对于一个非英语专业的学生,本人觉得这样就可以了。
Globalisation-----A word that has changed the world Good evening , distinguished judges ,ladies and gentlemen !My name is Wang hongyu , a sophomore from the School of International Trade.Today it’s really my great honor to stand here and deliver a speech .My topic is “A word that has changed the world “ and that word is globalization. As I stand here speaking to you in English, I am already globalized. While shopping, I see the fair Chinese ladies carrying Prada handbags, I find they are globalized. Watching Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings with friends—yes, you can anticipate the refrain, we are all globalized!Globalisation is a word that is on everyone's lips these days, from politicians to businessmen. But what is globalisation, and what are the forces that are shaping it to change the world? As we all know,in economic terms, globalisation refers to the growing economic integration of the world, as trade, investment and money increasingly cross international borders which may or may not have political or cultural implications. Last week ,I read a book called 《The world is flat 》,writtten by Thomas L. Friedman. In his book , he thought that globalization is not only a phenomenon or a transitory tendency. It’s an international system which took over the col d war system .In the cold war ,people often asked :”How big is your guided missile ?”But in Globalisation period ,people will ask ;”How fast is you modem ?”That is to say ,the world has changed a lot. The rapid spread of information technology and the internet is changing the way companies organise production, and increasingly allowing services as well as manufacturing to be globalised. It is also being driven by the decision by India and China to open their economies to the world, thus doubling the global labour force overnight.Globalization has various aspects which affect the world in several different ways, such as industrial,,financial, economic, political,,cultural and so on. As a student of International Trade , I can feel more deeply.Take a look at the street, we can see people walking around in Nike and Reebooks ,beyond the curb, long lines of vehicles shuttle like wind on the tar among which there’re Mercedes-Benz ,BMW, Toyota ,and some of the V olkswagen whose price is definitely not so “volks” at all. They’re all h eading for the same direction.Another example, the New Oriental School, coz learning English is currently the hottest way blowing away our after-school time and money in town. Everything about this picture is so global that you can hardly tell if it’s BeiJing or Belgium. The new form of globalization is an interconnected world and global mass culture, often referred to as a "global village."Well, in a word ,as everyone perceive, globalization is shaking the world !That’s all .Thank s for your attention .Thank you very much !。
A word that has changed the worldLadies and gentlemen, it’s my honor to have the speech here. The first time I saw the title, I was thinking which word could change the world. What’s the world? In my opinion, all the culture, economy, policy, education, families, countries and the connection among all the creatures, make up the world. How can a word change the world? To tell the truth, I deem this title that has made for stumping us lecturers at first. But I realized this idea was wrong after I saw the Shawshank redemption. It’s Andy.Dufr esne who lets me know a word that has changed the world is not just a sentence. Andy, the protagonist in the Shawshank redemption, tells me the word. You know it? It was what differentiates Andy and other prisoners in shawshank. The word has changed the world, Andy’s world. The word is hope, which is the key point. Though Andy was wronged to be sentenced to life imprisonment in the shawshank. Maybe he never thought he could hug the freedom again. But he also never gave up seeking for the freedom. He took the risk of death helping the prison guard, as Red said: what he done is just to feel the normal free again. When they sat and drank with sunshine on the shoulder, Andy spent a break under the shade, with a strange smile on his face. He insisted that he would never spend his life in such a suffering cage. He didn’t want to be the second old Brooks, who spend nearly his lifetime in the prison. When he went out the cage, he only found this world was not the one he was familiar to. He was tired of being afraid all the time and decided end his life in where he was looking forward in his old days. Why? Why when he got freedom, he threw it away, because he got used to the life without freedom. He loosed his hope and faith for free and bright life. Quote Red’s word,he’s just institutionalized. All the prisoners in shawshank like the birds in cage, the high wall and iron cage led their feathers become gray and gloomy. But there was also a bird that can’t be caged, because its feather is too bright and dazzling. This bird is Andy. He didn’t belong to here. Zihuatanejo, a little place on the Pacific Ocean, a warm place without memory, that’s where he belongs to. That’s Andy’s hope. Open up a little hotel right on the beach, buy some worthless boats, and fix them up. It’s not too much to ask. In Andy’s eyes, life is just to make the choice, get busy living, or get busy dying. As for Andy, he chose the first one. He used the small hammer to excavate the wall day after day. A thunderstorm night, when Andy crawled through the five hundred yards sewer, his hope soared, sparkled with the thunder. In the end of the film, Andy and his old friend Red have a reunion right on the beach. The blue ocean and two free men impressed me indeed. At that time, I really realized that the power of hope is tremendous. Ten years ago, Andy was suffering in the shawshank, living with darkness, violence. But, all of them just destroy his body, not his mind. He never loosed his hope, never gave up. Hope, the simple word has changed his world.Story is end up, but our life is going on. I believe everyone has hope in their inner side. Such as, hope families healthy, study well, earn more money, and so on. This is reality. But, does every hope come true? Andy holds his hope, and spares no effort to accomplish it. Finally, he did it. The reason why classic becomes classic is not itself, but the effect of the works. This film told us, having hope isn’t the key, but holding the hope, and try your best to accomplish it. And then, you will see how wonderfully a word could do. It really could change your world. So move on, everybody, you can change your world! Thanks for listening!the word has change the worldloveToday I want to testify about the topic is that “a word has changed the world”undoubtedly there are quite a few different words for this topic, however the most fundamental one could be “love”。
A word that has changed the worldGood evening, my honorable judges and beloved classmates ! I'm Changjian, a student in Class Four of civil engineering, the College of Architecture and Engineering . This is the first time that I have taken part in such an important and thrilling English speech contest ! I feel very excited although I'm a bit of nervous! Today, I will deliver a speech entitled " A word that has changed the world" . As far as I'm concerned, not just one word can change the world. It is obvious that there are a great many words with this magic power, such as knowledge, love, faith, kindness, harmony, etc., however, in my opinion, I believe that it's the word : technology .After all, from ancient times to the present day, what we use, what we wear, what we play, even what we eat are mostly derived from technology. Since the industrial revolution beginning in England, it has changed the world greatly and widely. At that time, regrettably, we closed our doors to the other countries from the Qing dynasty. Because we didn't have advanced technology ,we suffered from aggression after aggression and lived with defeat after defeat. Nowadays, our country is aware of the importanceof technology, so we have been adhered to the reform and open policy aimed at introducing the advanced foreign technology, and from then on, our country has become better, stronger and more prosperous.Until today, just as telephone, mobile phone, TV, computer, vehicles and so on, are all attributed to technology. To some extent, we can say literally that we couldn't have today without technology. I think, maybe this is why we have always emphasized technology as the first productivity. Therefore, personally speaking, I think technology is the word that has changed the world ! That's all, thank you !!!。
A word that has changed the worldGood morning, my honorable judges, ladies and gentlemen,Have you heard that Osama Bin Laden had been killed in the U.S. lead attack on compound near Islamabad, which means that the Osama are significantly taken by the Obama. Such influential news really caught my attention on the political situation these years. Four major imperial powers had been militarily and politically defeated by the end of the World WarⅠ. The political alignment and social structure of the world was altered by the end of the World WarⅡ. The whole Middle East had been caught in a disastrous turbulence by the end of the Gulf War. Ladies and gentlemen, we can easily figure out that war, the little word, really has changed our world. What is war? Can anybody give me a specific definition? According to the encyclopedia, war is a state or period of armed hostile conflict between states, nations, or groups. When people think of war, they picture fires, deaths, and destruction. It is logical for people to think in that way because in the course of history, war has knitted many fires, killed many lives and destroyed many great cities. Although war has done those terrible things to the human civilization, it also has a positive effect.Initially, great advancement in technology happened because of war. For example during World WarⅡthe Axis and Ally powers tried to design the faster and more maneuverable plane so it can have the advantage over the other planes in Ariel combat. During the end of World WarⅡGermany wasdesperated from a super weapon to turn the tide of the war. In that desperation the Jet was invented. Although the jets of Germany entered the war was too late to help stopping the Ally advancement, it totally revolutionized aviation. Because of the invention of the jet now people can travel from point A to point B faster than the speed of sound. What’s more, war also has brought economical growth and prosperity. For example during World WarⅠthe factories that produced military vehicles and equipment needed more workers thus created many jobs. Because of those jobs the living standard of American family went up.Ladies and gentlemen, the positives sides of war have benefited the human civilization, but it costs the lives of more than a billion souls. I am not a belligerent person. I am just wondering maybe someday in the future wars would be fought without the lost of human life maybe with robots or remote control vehicles. I really look forward to the following days how war would continue to change our world.。
A Word That has Changed the WorldDear Judges, ladies and gentlemen:This can‘t be a question to all of us who lead a much better life than passed generations and the answer should be quite clea r, I assure you, to the ones living in this Information Age. B ut before I am ready to tell you the very word, I‘ll share with you something interesting or boring you may assume, whatever. Now, please bear with me.My grandma, who‘s a little old woman with grey hair, always wearing kindness on her smiling face, keeps expressing her gratitude to what the world are now. During the times when hunger and disease remained 2 great nightmares for most people, as the old Chinese saying goes‘ It‘s a rarity to live up to 70 ‗, people struggled to meet their basic needs. But now, most disease that was incurable has found a cure and food is ample, covering a large variety.I used to ask my father whether they had TVs to entertain in their childhood. He responded with laughter saying‘ No—well at least it was not so prevalent. There was only one TV set in the whole small village and every night people circled around it trying each possible way to get the access. It was black-and –white yet not everyone could watch it clearly. And channels were few, signals were weak, screen was small, pictures were far from clear and it was likely to have all the audience merely listen from time to time. Look at what we have now and what we are behaving: we always muttering the screen is not big enough when it is large and how few the channels are when there‘re hundreds. If I were them, I would envy us; and I do pity them—I have to say. It‘s so beyond my imagination that there once did exist a world without Internet, cell phone, mini players…a list of things tha t we are using now everyday. For parents, you don‘t have to worry about your apples when you‘re thousands of miles apart, enquiry is just a texting, an e-mail, or a click away. For lovers especially guys, you don‘t have to surmount a long and trying journey to meet your girls—though it‘ll be treme ndously romantic or write letters inquiring after them but suffer from a hard time waiting for a reply, online video dialogue has facilitated it. For children, don‘t be disappointed about missing your favorite TV show for being late home, or scratch your head over and over again on a math problem, just log online, plenty of resources await you there. So see? Internet has changed the way we think, we act, and we live. Internet is to us what water is to fish and it is just one of oceans of invent ions that are serving us every single day.And a question comes along: What brought them to life? What has made them the servants of our human beings? Technology, with 100% of certainty I assure you all. And we bear that in mind, we set up this institute, and we are here. We are here to learn the technology. We are here to change the world. Thanks! (Thank you all)A Word That Has Changed the WorldDear Judges, ladies and gentlemen:There is no question what word it is that allows us all to lead a much better life than past generations, and it should be quite clear that we, in the Information Age, are the ones that have it good. But before I tell you what word that is, let me share something interesting with you (you may find it boring, but oh well). Now, please bear with me.My grandma, who‘s a small, old woman with grey hair, who always wears kindness on her smiling face, is always expressing her gratitude to the world we live in now. In the days during which hunger and disease were the two greatest nightmares for many people, the Chinese saying went: ―It's rare to live to 70,‖ and people struggled to make ends meet. But now, most diseases that were once deemed incurable are now curable, and food is abundant in great variety.I used to ask my father whether they had TVs to entertain them in their childhood. He responded with laughter saying‘ No—well at least it was not so prevalent. There was only one TV set in the whole village and every night people crowded around it trying anything to get access. It was black-and –white yet not everyone could watch it clearly. Channels were few, signals were weak, and the screen was small withpictures that were far from clear. More often than not, the audience would merely listen from time to time. Look at what we have now and how we are behaving: we're always complaining that the screen isn't big enough even though it's quite large and how we don't have enough channels, when in actuality we have hundreds. If I were them, I would envy us; and I do pity them—I have to say. It‘s so beyon d my imagination that there was once a world without Internet, cell phones, mp3 players…a list of things that we are now using everyday. For parents, you don‘t have to worry about your children when you‘re thousands of miles apart, they're just a text, an e-mail, or a click away. For lovers, especially guys, you don‘t have to go on a long and trying journey to meet with your girlfriends—though it‘d be tremendously romantic or write letters asking after them, however, you'd have to wait a long time for a reply. Online video chat has facilitated this. For children, don‘t be disappointed about missing your favorite TV shows due to coming home late, or scratching your head over and over again over a math problem, just go online and plenty of resources await you there. A word that has changed the world
“Aha!”Isaac Newton exulted after that famous head was hit by that famous apple. And there came the law of gravity.”Aha!”Thomas Edison cheered when the very last bulb shone incredibly brighter than ever. And there came the era of electricity. And who knows, a brand new aha is on its way to bring us the Noah or another jobs. Americans know it best, more jobs, safer Wall Street.
But how exactly is this simple word changing the whole world? You cannot just spit it out and let it work its magic. It is because every time people say it, they have actually accomplished something, either finding a new principle of physics, or coming up with some new inventions. All in all, it‟s about innovation and creation.
Though the world is changing and improving faster than any of us can begin to imagine, it seems that we have got used to it. In other words, few of us will bother questioning why the world is changing and why at this tremendous speed. Truth been told, if no one had taken risks to try breaking a rule or taking the first step into the unknown, the world would surely have remained, you know, fine. But one thing is for sure, it wouldn‟t have been as fine as it is now, and neither in the future. The world certainly won‟t change itself, and this is when our apple and light bulb or something weird in geometry walks in. They appeared, and made people think differently. And yeah, this is when the word came in. The
word that not only expresses the happiness of discovery, but also proves that all the sweat and tears and all the sacrifices have paid off. Amazing, isn‟t it?
Aha is the word people use to express pleasure when they understand sth or found sth our. It is the word that mostly accompanied with the sweat of exploring and the smile of discovering. It is the word, and the creative spirit behind it, that has changed the world.
And yet we seldom hear ‘Aha!’ these days. More often we hear ‘No, I’m not allowed to do that.’ or ‘Oops, you’re breaking the rules.’ We seldom see true ingenuity these days. More often we see student’s essays scored ‘0’because of the ‘unorthodox’ideas it conveys, or self-satisfied bureaucrats saying ‘The more you do, the more mistakes you make.’ We have grown used to the given reality. No more risks, and of course, no more ‘Aha!’.
But a world without ‘Aha’ is a world without light-bulbs, TVs and iPhone 4. It is not only boring; it is horrifying. So let’s welcome ‘Aha’again. Let’s say ‘Good idea, Joe, but you need to elaborate it.’ instead of ‘Stop daydreaming.’Let’s say ‘Just do it. Life is what you make it.’ instead of ‘Grow up! Face reality!’ Let’s not say ‘That’s what the book says.’ Let’s
not say ‘Why bother changing anything?’ Let’s think out of the box. Let’s be innovative. Let ‘Aha!’ keep changing the world.
