本句为there be句型,表示“某处有某物”。
(1)如果there be后为可数名词单数或不可数名词,be用is,若为可数名词复数,be用are。
如: There is a girl in the room.房间里有一个女孩。
There are many beautiful flowers in the garden.花园里有许多漂亮的花。
(2)如果there be后的主语包含两者或两者以上,be的形式适用于就近原则,即be与离它最近的主语在数上保持一致。
