These good talkers have something in common. And once we know whatit is, we can try to do it ourselves.First of all, good talkers ask questions. Almost anyone, no matter how shyhe is, will answer a question. One well-known businesswoman says, “At business lunches, I always ask people what they did that morning. It's a c ommon question, but it will get things going.” From there you can move on to other matters—sometimes to really personal questions. And how he answers will let you know how far you can go.Second, once good talkers have asked questions, they listen to the answers. Your questions should have a point. This helps to tell what kind of person you are talking to. And to find out, you really have to listen carefully. Real listening at least means some things. It means not to change the subject of conversation very often. If someone sticks to one topic, you can know that he’s really interested in it. Besides, real listening also means not just listening to words, but to tones* of voice. If the voice sounds boring, then, it's time for you to change the subject. Finally, good talkers know well how to deal with the moment of leaving. If you're saying good-bye, you may give him a friendly handshake and say, "I've really enjoyed meeting you." If you want to see that person again, don't keep it a secret. Let people know what you feel, and they may walk away feeling as if they've known you half their life.29.Most people will __________ no matter how shy he is.A. make you comfortableB. become good talkersB. ask many questions D. answer a question30.You should ________ to know what kind of the person you are talking to.A. have business lunches with himB. listen to the answer carefullyC. share your secret with himD. give him a friendly handshake31.A real listener is a person who _______.A. knows when they should change the topicB. never changes the subject of the talkC. is good at making any topic interestingD. always makes his voice sound boring32.Which of the following might a good talker say while he is leaving?A.“What did you do this morning?”B. “I think it’s time to go now. However, what interests the scientists most isnot their fascinating looks, but how they sense the nature. They use their senses of sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste to find food, lay eggs in good places, and avoid hungryenemies.Butterflies have large compound eyes. This allows them to see in all directionswithout turning their heads. Like most insects, butterflies are very near-sighted. They are more likely to notice a sea of flowers than a single plant. Butterflies do not “see” colors such as red, green, and yellow. They are color blind. But they can sense sunlight, which tells them the direction that the sun is shining. The light presented on many flowers guides butterflies to honey. How do butterflies smell? Butterflies have a very well-developed sense of smell, but it is not in their noses, since they don't have one. Sense organs* are in their feet, and many other parts of the body. They can help butterflies find their favorite flower honey food.Do butterflies use their mouths to taste the food they find? Not really. Butterflies’ feet have sense organs that can taste the sugar in flower honey. They let the butterflies know if there is something tasty. To lay their eggs, some female butterflies carefully choose plants by tasting to find proper places. They feed their babies using a long tube*, and they get all their food from this tube as well.Butterflies don't have ears. Instead, they “hear” sounds through their wings by sensing changes in sound vibrations*. Sensory hairs are all over butterflies’ body. The hairs are very helpful by letting them feel the environment. For example, the hairs give butterflies information about the wind when they’re flying.Butterflies may have senses we don't even know about yet, because their body is very different from ours. Therefore, it is difficult to understand when we use our own human senses to study it.37.Which of the following might a butterfly see first?A. A sunflower.B. Lots of roses.C. Two red apples.D. A piece of leaf.38.From the passage we know that butterflies ____________.A. can use the nose to find flower honeyB. use mouth to taste sugar in flower honeyC. can use their feet to feed their babiesD. use hairs to know the direction of wind39.The last paragraph tells us ___________.A. butterflies have more senses than humansB. butterflies give great help to human beingsC. it is hard to know all the senses of butterfliesD. human senses are good for studying butterflies40.Which might be the best title for the passage?A. Macy’s. It is the world’s largest and second oldest parade. The event is held in Manhattan from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Thanksgiving Day.In 1924, Macy’s store workers marched to their store in Herald Square, dressing as cowboys, clowns and knights. They went from 145th Street to the store, making a 6-mile route. There were floats, bands and 25 live animals borrowed from the zoo. With an audience of over 250,000 people, the parade was such a success that Macy’s decided to hold it every year.Four years later, balloons replaced the live animals. Over the years, they have become a key feature of the parade. These six-storey-tall balloons are modeled after pop cartoon and culture characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Snoopy and Spider-Man. Another key part of the parade is floats with famous people and musicians. The most famous float, Tom Turkey, was introduced in 1973 and became the parade’s mascot. It generally leads the parade as the first float. In the parade, there are also college bands, singers, dancers and performers. The last person to appear is Santa Claus, who ends the event by arriving into Herald Square to ring in the Christmas season. The route has been changed three times. The latest one was made in 2009. It starts at the corner of 77th Street and travels south to Columbus Circle, where it turns east onto Central Park South before turning on to 6th Avenue. After traveling down 6th Avenue to 34th Street, the parade turns right and ends at Macy’s in Herald Square. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a true New York experience and attracts over 2.5 million people every year.29.The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ________.A.is held next to Manhattan B.lasts for about three hoursC.has a history of over 100 years D.is the second largest in the world 30.Which of the followings appear in today’s parade?a. zoo workersb. live animalsc. cartoon balloonsd. About 850 million people depend on them for food and living. But 70%-90% of the world’s coral reefs may disappear by the year of 2050 due to ocean warming and pollution. The Allen Coral Atlas(ACA), the first real-time global coral reefs map, has been recently created to help tum the situation around. The map is named after Paul Allen, who provides financial support. With his help, the satellite remote sensing technology was first used to study coral reefs. A team of researchers have taken over 2 million photos of coral reefs around the world at the depth of 15 metres under the sea with this technology. Those underwater photos have been connected with GPS systems by a self-developed software. In this way, the global online map has been built. To make it more correct and detailed, the team reached out to over 900 scientists and organizations from around the world, generously sharing almost 500 of their own datasets of coral reefs. The datasets enable the team to mark the exact locations of the reefs on the map.▲ . It is updated every two weeks, together with the position information from the GPS system. It allows experts to see real-time information about reefs and work on coral science activities. The ACA has also produced a bleaching monitoring system to make its datasets rich. So experts have an opportunity to monitor the bleaching degrees in the coral reefs and make early decisions to save them. For managers or policy makers, the ACA can help view and deal with geospatial data for decisions about which ocean area should be protected. The ACA is free online for anyone. This user-friendly interactive platform has functional features such as zoom in, zoom out, mini-map and measure distance. Users are allowed to provide feedback to improve the quality of coral reef data.In the future, the team hopes to use mapping technology of the ACA in inland areasinstead of only focusing on coastlines so that we can better understand the interactions of land and sea.33.Why did the team of researchers create the Allen Coral Atlas’?A.To stop global warming and pollution.B.To offer more people food and living. C.To improve the condition of coral reefs.D.To remember Paul Allen’s financial help.34.How does the satellite remote sensing technology help to build the map?A.Mark satellite locations exactly.B.Share the datasets generously. We’re going to need it.” He told his co-pilot, Tyler. An hour later, they reached the location of the crash. Every eye in the plane was looking for a small yellow life raft. After six turns in the storm, only three hours of gas left-it wouldtake about three hours to go back to the base. “It’s almost over.” Brady thought, looking down at the ocean below. A sudden yellow glow reached his eyes. He headed forward quickly and found a raft. One man sat on it and waved weakly. Another man lay still, face down.Brady circled lower. At fifteen feet the waves reached up to the bottom of the seaplane. The crew were waiting for his decision. No one would blame him for dropping supplies and returning to the base. A ship could be here within twenty-four hours to pick up the survivors. There were five men in his crew. And with two more men weighing down the plane, it was almost impossible to take off in weather like this.Water poured over the raft, and the men almost fell off. Brandy knew the answer then: he had to help them-there was no choice! The plane dropped onto the ocean with lots of jolting.Among huge waves, Tyler pulled the men into the plane with great effort and Brady began to take off. But he felt the plane stay in the water when he pushed the throttle forward. Now seven men were floating in the water instead of just two. Gruelingly, Brady pulled the plane up out of the big waves after several tries. When the situation was under control, Brady walked to see the the men. “We all made it. We’ll be back to the base-Attila Atoll soon.”“You...you didn’t get the message from the base radio? A huge wave hit Attila, and the base is under water.” one of the men stared at Brady.Brady was shocked, “Our radio’s been broken. How did you get the message?”“We picked it up on the emergency set in the raft.”Brady told Tyler. “We’re heading for Johnston.”Now there was enough gas left to get to Johnston Island, all because the men they’d saved had happened to pick up a message.37.Brady and the crew flew to ________.A.war about the coming storm B.search for a life raft in the seaC.fix the broken radio on the plane D.help a ship return to the base 38.When the plane was at fifteen feet, Brady ________.A.found it difficult to drop the suppliesB.worried about that the waves would get hugerC.feared that others would blame him for not saving the menD.thought about whether to risk his crew’s lives to save the men39.Why did Brady decide to head for Johnston?A.Because the base was destroyed.B.Because his crew were badly hurt.
