一般来说，阅读一篇文章可以分为三个层次。

第一，从文章的整体结构上来把握文章的大意。这个阶段，需要做到的事把文章所想要阐述的事物弄清楚，比如这篇文章说明的什么样的社会问题，或者介绍了什么样的风土人情，或者描述了个什么样的事件。当然，很多情况下不可能马上就把文章所希望阐述的问题具体搞清楚，但是起码要找到关键的名词，也就是说起码要弄清楚文章的目的事物或目的事件。这样子看文章才能有的放矢。要做到这点其实只需要找到一两个句子阐明主旨就可以，一般来说这样的句子都在文章的第一段的第一句或者最后一句，当然也有可能在文章最后一段的第一句。这是英文的情况，可能英国人和法国人的思维方式会有不一样，但是应该是大同小异的。做到了这个层面是不可以开始做题目的，要靠之后文章的阐述来证明你在这个层面上理解的正确性。当然，当在阅读科普类的文章的时候有例外，看后面的分析。

第二，知道了文章的大意以后，就可以开始细读文章了。语义结构层面上的斟酌更多是关于词汇和语法的。第二点的主要目的是在于把握文章中更多的例证，为你后面选择提供依据，同时也进一步弄清楚文章的主旨。在英语中有非常多的介词和冠词，在理解文章上面，这些词的有无是无关紧要的，可以忽略。当在看文章的时候，由于他们基本上是不带有任何信息的，往往可以跳过，一个句子只要知道主谓宾就可以知道大概的意思了，这样可以在一定程度上提高阅读的速度，为做题目省下来很多时间。一般来说，做到这一点基本上就可以应付很多的题目了，特别是对科普类的主体而言。 第三，有些题目是需要判断作者的写作意图或者作者的喜恶的，这就需要从作者的角度去深入文章。这是最难做到的层面。有些时候作者的观点是很显然的，他会猛力抨击某个事实或者某样事情。大多数情况下，作者的情感会倾向比较隐晦，要靠文章中所用的形容词和副词来判断，也可以通过所用动词的褒贬倾向来判断。简单举个例子，fragrance / perfume / smell / odor四个词都有气味的意思，但是fragrance更多偏向于香水一类的香味；perfume可以形容香水，但是一般来形容女生身上的体香；smell用指人的时候有贬义，但是用在物体上的话其褒贬就有待斟酌了；odor一般来说是指难闻的气味。Perfum e from her / smell from the kitchen / smell from his body /
