一. 概念

1. Attribute (定语) 限定或修饰名词、代词

2. 定语从句的先行词

. Tom came back, which made us happy.

been seen before.

(定语从句不能没有先行词)

3. 定语从句的类型

.Helen, who was sitting on my left, said that this meal was

the best she had ever had.

4. 引导词在定语从句中充当的成分.

. A plane is a machine that can fly.

. The girl ( that) we saw yesterday is Jim’s sister.

. They planted the trees which don’t need much water.

. The fish (which) we bought were not fresh..

. He may be late, in which case we ought to wait for him.

引导词在意义上相当于先行词,所以定语从句中不能重复先行词.

①.This is the washing machine that he had it repaired

yesterday.

②.Mr Read is the professor to whom you should write to him.

③.I still remember the day when I first came to Liverpool on

that day.

④.The company where his father works in it is in the west of

the city.

⑤.He couldn’t give his manager a good reason why he was

late for work for this reason..

二. 定语从句中引导词的选择. 一看先行词是人还是物, 二看引导词做何用, 三看介词在何处, 四看是否属特殊.
