While you may find it comfortable to sit with one leg crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You won't feel any immediate effects, but repeated, drawn-out increases in blood pressure can cause long-term health issues. So, are you planning to sit for a long period of time?Don't keep your legs crossed."Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pressure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg, " explains Richard Graves, a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis (麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankles—what we know as that "pins and needles" sensation. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.(1) What can we learn about crossing one's legsA. It is a very bad social habit.B. It is usually practiced deliberately.C. It can do harm to people's health.D. It can make others feel uncomfortable.(2) According to the study, sitting with your legs crossed can.A. affect your blood pressureB. resist gravity effectivelyC. lead to heart trouble easilyD. improve the function of legs(3) In the third paragraph, the underlined phrase "pins and needles" probablymeans.A. slight sharp painsB. being a little nervousC. serious muscle injuriesD. being highly flexible(4) What is the main purpose of the textA. To compare common habits.B. To give readers some advice.C. To evaluate effects of an experiment.D. Bees play a vital role in the world. Unfortunately, bees are dying by the second. The main purpose of bees is to make honey. Honey, shockingly, does not exist for human consumption, it is essential to the insects. Honeybees store honey in their hives (蜂巢) in order for the bees to have energy for their flight muscles and for heating the hive during the winter period. They collect pollen (花粉) which supplies protein for young bees to grow.According to Honey, com, the increased production and quality of agricultural crops as a result of honey bee pollination is valued &t more than $14/ 6 billion per year. These insects are responsible for over 70 of the fruits and vegetables we eat today, including apples, grapes, coffee, beans, and broccoli. So if they are so valuable to agriculture, why do they keep dying off? A key suspect seems to be pesticides (农药). Honeybees who are exposed to pesticides result in the damage to their neurological (神经的) functions, specifically memory or behavior. And that's why the majority of worker bees disappear and leave behind a queen, plenty of food and a few nurse bees to care for the remaining immature bees and the queen. There are several other causes to the decline of bees, including the destruction of natural habitat, like woodlands, forests, and other habitats for bees. Climate change is also a factor in the decline of the wild bee population.Actually, there are a variety of methods to help the bee population grow. One way is to start your own organic garden by planting bee-friendly plants. Pesticides are used in both industrial practices and even in your home, so it is best to find organic seeds and weed killers.(1) Why do honeybees store honey in their hives?A. To provide enough honey for human to consume.B. To draw protein out of honey for young bees.C. To help attract other insects and make hives stronger.D. To strengthen bee muscles and heat hives in winter.(2) Apples and beans are mentioned in the third paragraph to show that.A. bees supply human beings with basic foodB. bees mainly live on these agricultural cropsC. bees are of great importance to fruits and vegetablesD. bees can bring in more money for famers every year(3) What is most likely to cause the worker bees to leave their hives behind?A. The lack of food.B. The abuse of pesticides.C. The fighting among bees.D. The destruction of the habitats.(4) What would the author probably discuss in the paragraph that follows?A. Another way to save bees.B. Other tips for choosing seeds.C. More methods to plant green organic fruits.D. Causes of the decline in the wild bee population.5、【来源】 2017年安徽合肥高三二模第16~20题10分2017年黑龙江哈尔滨香坊区哈尔滨市第六中学高三二模第36~40题10分Empathy, the Key to Being Kind In science class, your teacher tells everyone to find a partner for a project. Out of the corner of your eye, you notice one girl sitting alone and not making eye contact with anyone. You think about asking her to be your partner, but you're afraid people will think you're uncool. You don't reachout.1Empathy is being able to understand and actually feel what someone else is feeling. For some people, this comes naturally; for others, it takes a bit morework.2When you practice being empathetic, it gets easier to make kindness a part of your everyday life. If you can understand why people are feeling down, you'll want to help them. Here are some ideas that can help you.3Someone not being able to find a group in class might not seem like a big deal—but part of being kind is noticing when someone seems sad, hurt or uncomfortable. After all, you have to notice how people feel in order to feel empathy and want to help them! When you're trying to make kindness second nature, really getting other people's feelings is important.4Think about a time when you felt that way. Didn't you wish someone would reach out to you? If someone had offered you a few words of comfort, wouldn't it have made you feel so much happier? So, when you find people around you who are feeling down next time, do not hesitate to put yourself in their shoes and reach out to them with a kind gesture.5There is always a time when you expect others to relate to you and feel what you feel.A. And your kindness will be finally rewarded.B. But empathy is super important to being kind.C. Be open to learning more about what you don't understand.D. One way to practice empathy is to pay attention to the people around you.E. However, you never know showing empathy may make all the difference to her.F. Now a Chinese toad(蟾蜍) has joined that club of clever survivors.South Africans are shocked at the endurance of a toad that got trapped in a cargo shipment from China to Cape Town, after jumping into a porcelain candlestick(烛台) that was made there. South African officials reportedly planned to put down the creature, fearing it would cause harm as an invasive species if it were let go in the wild. But the toad got a last-minute pardon. Mango Airlines, a South African airline, transported the toad on Friday to Johannesburg for delivery to an animal shelter, after officia ls decided to find a way to let the toad live. The two-hour flight was a breeze compared to the trip from China, a long way of many weeks and thousands of kilometers across the Indian Ocean.Airline spokesman Hein Kaiser said the t oad got “first-class treatment”, sitting in a transparent plastic container with escort Brett Glasby, an animal welfare inspector. There was even a ceremony, in which the toad’s boarding pass was handed to Glasby.“He was the star of the show on the flight,” Kaiser said of the amphibious(两栖的) passenger. “I think every passenger stopped to have a look.”On landing in Johannesburg, the toad was brought out of its container for a celebrity-style photo shoot. Observers said thebrown toad seemed like a cool customer. It belongs to the Asian Toad species, which breeds during the monsoon(季风) season. It is believed to have survived the trip from China by hardening its skin to prevent it from drying out, and also by slowing its breathing and heart rate—methods that help the species survive in times of drought.“We’ve had snakes in imported timber and scorpions(蝎子) in fruit. We were called because the toad was right inside the candlestick, and we had to break it to get it out” Glasby, the inspector, told The Star, a South African newspaper.32. Leadership is the most significant word in today’s competitive business environment because it directs the manager of a bu siness to focus inward on their personal abilities and style. Ex perts on leadership will quickly point out that “how things get d one” influences the success of the outcomes and indicates a r ight way and a wrong way to do things. When a noted leader on the art of management, Peter Drucker, coined the phrase“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the righ t things”, he was seeking to clarify the distinctions he associat es with the terms. When Stephen Covey, founder and director of the Leadership Institute, explored leadership styles in the past decade, he fo cused on the habits of a great number of highly effective indivi duals. His Seven Habits of Highly Effective People became a popular bestseller very quickly. His ideas forced a reexaminati on of the early leadership example, which centered on the fea ture that was found in the character ethic(道德准则) and the personality ethic. The former ethic suggested success was founded on modesty, loyalty, courage, patience and so on. The personality ethic suggested it was one’s attitude, not behavior, that inspired success, and this ethic was founde d on a belief of positive mental attitude. In contrast to each of these ideas, Covey advocates that leaders need to understan d universal principles of effectiveness, and he highlights how vital it is for leaders to first personally manage themselves if t hey are to enjoy any hope of outstanding success in their wor k environments. To achieve a desired vision for your business , it is essential that you have a personal vision of where you a re headed and what you value. Business leadership means th at managers need to “put first things first,” which implies that before leading others, you need to be clear on your own value s, abilities, and strengths and be seen as trustworthy.1. What does Peter Drucker’s phrase infer?A. Leaders should be good at making right decisions.B. Leaders should be good at doing things right.C. Leaders should be good at ignoring the distinctions he ass ociates with the terms.D. Leaders should be skilled in predicting future.2. 说理议论+社会文化+应用广告+逸闻趣事A(2017·四川乐山调研)When people around you agree with you,it improves your confidence and allows you to relax and feel comfortable.Unfortunately, that comfort usually keeps you away from achieving more success in your career, especially when you are in a leader position. So it feels nice to have people agree, but you need some regular conflicts, that is to say,to have people raise different views so that you can dig out the deeper truth and avoid suffering from being too much on just one side.So do you often share your opinions on most subjects with people around you and encourage them to debate? If yes,set it as a tradition in your company or department. At first,it seems a challenge to create an environment where people are in free atmosphere to disagree and argue, but remember:from sharp conflicts come sound judgments, and from sound judgments come right decisions. That’s because most of the time you have to collect different opinions from different angles to help yourself identify your blind spots before you form the real brilliant ideas. However, effective debates do not require angry quarrels and embarrassments. So you need to set some ground rules so everyone understands responsibilities, boundaries and rewards.Rule No.1:The goal of debating is not to win over others but to get to the truth that will allow you and your staff to move faster and better.Rule No.2:Fierce debating with strong emotion hurts feelings and does harm to teamwork. So repeatedly remind your staff, best with smiles and humors, that this is friendly opinion sharing time for a common goal instead of a battle between two enemies trying with full efforts to beat the other one down to earth.Rule No.3:All those involved in the debates shall get rewards when the goals are reached, thus they know how much you appreciate their contributions. The more they feel appreciated, the more they’ll be willing to contribute their talents with full heart in the future.1.What happens when your staff all agree with you?A.It may improve your work effectively.B.It creates harmonious working atmosphere.C.You are likely to make more right decisions.D.You may have problems in career advancing.

It is only when we cannot see perfectly that we realize how important our eyes are.People who are near-sighted can only see things that are very close to their eyes, Everything else seems blurry(=unclear). Many people who do a lot of work, such as writing, reading and sewing become near—sighted. ThenPeople who are far-sighted suffer from just the opposite problem. They can see things that are far away, but they have difficulty in reading a book unless they hold it at arm’s length. If they want to do much reading ,they must get glasses, too.Other people do not see clearly because their eyes are not exactly the right shape. They have what is called astigmatism (散光). This, too, can be corrected by glasses. Some people’s eyes become cloudy because of cataracts (白内障). Long ago these people often became blind. Now, however, it is possible to operate on the cataracts and remove them.Having two good eyes is important for judging distances. Each eye sees things from a slightly different angle (角度). To prove this to yourself, look at an object our of one eye; then look at the same object out of your other eye. You will find the object’s relation to the background and other things around it has changed. The difference between these two different eye views helps us to judge how far away an object is. 正确选项的命题方式和特征描述(2016·全国甲卷·B)Five years ago, when I taught art at a school in Seattle,I used Tinkertoys as a test at the beginning of a term to find out something about my students.I put a small set of Tinkertoys in front of each student, and said:“Make something out of the Tinkertoys. You have 45 minutes today—and 45 minutes each day for the rest of the week.”A few students hesitated to start. They waited to see what the rest of the class would do.Several others checked the instructions and made something according to one of the model plans provided.Another group built something out of their own imaginations.Once I had a boy who worked experimentally with Tinkertoys in his free time. His constructions filled a shelf in the art classroom and a good part of his bedroom at home.I was delighted at the presence of such a student. Here was an exceptionally creative mind at work. His presence meant that I had an unexpected teaching assistant in class whose creativity would infect(感染) other students.Encouraging this kind of thinking has a downside.I ran the risk of losing those students who had a different style of thinking.Without fail one would declare,“But I'm just not creative.”“Do you dream at night when you're asleep?”“Oh,sure.”“So tell me one of your most interesting dreams.” The student would tell something wildly imaginative.Flying in the sky or in a time machine or growing three heads.“That's pretty creative.Who does that for you?”“Nobody.I do it.”“Really—at night, when you're asleep?”“Sure.”“Try doing it in the daytime,in class,okay?”25.The teacher used Tinkertoys in class in order to .A.know more about the studentsB.make the lessons more excitingC.raise the students' interest in artD.teach the students about toy design26.What do we know about the boy mentioned in Paragraph 3?A.He liked to help his teacher.B.He preferred to study alone.C.He was active in class.D.He was imaginative.27.What does the underlined word “downside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?A.Mistake. B.Drawback.C.Difficulty. D.Burden.28.Why did the teacher ask the students to talk about their dreams?A.To help them to see their creativity.B.To find out about their sleeping habits.C.To help them to improve their memory.D.To find out about their ways of thinking.
题干中的in order to know more about the students 与原文中的to find out something about my students为同一含义,故A为正确选项。
Here was an exceptionally creative mind at work.

[例1](2016·全国乙卷·D)The meaning of silence varies among cultural groups.Silences may be thoughtful,or they may be empty when a person has nothing to say.A silence in a conversation may also show stubbornness, uneasiness,or worry.Silence may be viewed by some cultural groups as extremely uncomfortable;therefore attempts may be made to fill every gap(间隙) with conversation.Persons in other cultural groups value silence and view it as necessary for understanding a person's needs. Many Native Americans value silence and feel it is a basic part of communicating among people, just as some traditional Chinese and Thai persons do.Therefore, when a person from one of these cultures is speaking and suddenly stops, what may be implied(暗示) is that the person wants the listener to consider what has been said before continuing. In these cultures, silence is a call for reflection.Other cultures may use silence in other ways, particularly when dealing with conflicts among people or in relationships of people with different amounts of power. For example,Russian,French, and Spanish persons may use silence to show agreement between parties about the topic under discussion. However,Mexicans may use silence when instructions are given by a person in authority rather than be rude to that person by arguing with him or her.In still another use, persons in Asian cultures may view silence as a sign of respect, particularly to an elder ora person in authority.Nurses and other care-givers need to be aware of the possible meanings of silence when they come across the personal anxiety their patients may be experiencing.Nurses should recognize their own personal and cultural construction of silence so that a patient's silence is not interrupted too early or allowed to go on unnecessarily.A nurse who understands the healing(治愈) value of silence can use this understanding to assist in the care of patients from their own and from other cultures.
