课时28 名词性从句(二)Ⅰ.阅读理解ASeattle, Washington, may be nicknamed “Rain City”, but it's snow that's making it famous. On January 12, Seattle residents (居民) set the Guinness World Record for the largest snowball fight. More than 5,800 people showed up to throw snowballs at one another at the Seattle Center, a park, an arts and entertainment center that includes the city's famous Space Needle. It didn't snow in Seattle on that day, but there was snow in a small corner of the city—enough to make a lot of kids' dreams come true. Trucks carried 34 loads of snow from Snoqualmie Pass to the Seattle Center. It took 162,000 pounds of the white stuff to build the winter wonderland. The goal? To break the Guinness World Record for the largest snowball fight. The event, dubbed “Snow Day”, was also a fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County. Seattle businessman Neil Bergquist took three months to organize the playful battle. He wanted to raise money for kids by “remembering what it was like to feel like a kid”.Although Seattle residents aren't used to snow, they succeeded in getting enough people to come out and play. About 6,000 tickets were sold online, and participants were given barcoded wristbands when they arrived. The wristbands were scanned as eventgoers entered and left the location, so Guinness had a head count at all times. There were 130 judges for the official minuteandahalf snowball fight. Anyone not throwing snowballs was not counted in the total, Bergquist said.To raise money for the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County, companies paid for space to build their own snow forts. Some highlights included a snow slide and even a few snow toilets. A Guinness official confirmed the count of 5,834 people. Seattle beat the previous world record of about 5,400 at a snowball fight in 2010 in South Korea.[语篇解读] 西雅图的雪球战创吉尼斯世界纪录,让我们看看怎么回事吧!1.Many kids in Seattle were happy probably because ________.A.they could do what they longed toB.they found many trucks full of goodsC.they could go to the Seattle CenterD.they had a chance to help clear the snow解析:细节理解题。

答案:DBAchieving the balance between work and life is an essential question for working moms. It's not easy, but it's worth trying.Finding the balance between work and life begins with learning to say no. Stop doing everything. Say no to every task that is not essential. The way you define your priorities is by saying yes to some things and no to others. That means when your daughter is anxious at bedtime because of a scary movie she saw or because she went through a bout (一阵) of separation anxiety at day care, you take an extra 15 minutes to hug her and calm her down before leaving the room. But when it's your busiest time at work and you're asked to accompany someone to a field trip, you will ask yourself if you can help at school later in the year.If your boss asks you to complete a great and urgent project, ask which other tasks he'd like you to delay in order to get it done on time. Don't pull multiple allnighters to finish the extra work on top of your regular job.And please, lower your standards so you're not killing yourself to do whatever else is important to other people but not to you. For example, to have a perfectly clean home, lavishly planned parties or to make cookies by yourself for soccer matches. You'll never find the balance between work and life unless you let some things go.You simply cannot be everything to everybody. It's up to you to draw the line when you see it's hurting your children or your own peace of mind. A good test is to ask whether the question you're wrestling with will matter in 20 years. Generally speaking, the time you spend with family or on careerbuilding projects will pass meaningfully—but the extra three emails you answer at 11 p.m. will fail.[语篇解读] 本文介绍了职场妈妈如何才能获得工作与生活之间的平衡。
