在不同的文化背景中，中西方“身体语言”也有所不同，而了解这些不同，能让我们在对外交往时和外国友人和谐相处、愉快交流。招呼人过来：英国人是食指朝上向里勾动；中国人却是手掌向下朝自己方向摆动。英国人使用这一手势，是让人“慢一点”。跷大拇指：在英国，这一手势可以表示数字，还可以表示是旅游者要求搭车，是一种恳求的体态语。在中国，则表示对方做得很棒。表示自己：中国人用食指指着自己的鼻子，英国人却是用食指或拇指指着自己的胸部，食指和中指构成“V”型：在中国可表示数字“2”，也可表示一切顺利。在英国则有两种含义，当做这一手势时，手掌朝着对方，表示胜利；若手背朝着对方，则表示侮辱。
