第 2 讲推理判断题(二)推理判断题 ( 二 )A(2016 ·湖南四校高三联考 )I always figured that comedians were the best kind ofpeople to hang around with as a kid. They tell funny stories, make joke after joke, and happiness seems never to leave them. But time goes on, and we come to seethese same people as clowns on the outside, but crying a river in the inside.Comedy from these people comes from a deep pain and sadness in their lives, orout of a deep - seated anger they have at the world around them.Look at Richard Pryor. Need I say more? Richard seemed to have everything. For SupermanⅢ, he ended up getting more money than Christopher Reeve did. Yethe said while he was in his forties that the last truly happy moment he remembered in his life was when he was jumping around in the dirt while pretending to be acowboy at the age of 10. This guy set himself on fire, and he played that for laugh while performing live at the SunsetStrip!Comedy was his constant weapon againstpain, and he never held anything back. The movie FunnyPeople understands very well this gloomy field many comedianshave to survive in. It stars Adam Sandler as George Simmons, a famous comedianin the movie.Simmons has it all: a beautiful mansion overlooking the sea, a swimming pool, great cars, and so on. But in his eyes, we see that he is a sad man who hascome to truly look down upon himself for what he has become. All the wealth hehas collected only serves to separate him from the rest of the world and it makeshim defensive when around total strangers who cannot see him as a normal person. But now, he hears from his doctor that he has a terminal disease and has only months left to live. Simmons reacts to this news as if someone took away his blood inthe heart, and it makes him clearly see just how much he hates his life. So nowhe has to make every minute count. Then come a series of funny stories.Comedy_is _just _life _as_it_is,_isn't_it?体裁:谈论文题材:社会文化主题:喜剧语篇导读:本文经过不一样样的例子证了然喜剧是喜剧演员把真实生活中的伤心进行加工和升后造出来的。

gratitude or feeling grateful. In fact, there is a strong connection between a grateful attitude and a heightened sense of wellbeing.Appreciate all the positives in your life b y starting a gratitude journal in order to remember what you’re grateful for. 21Feeling down?Instead of feeling sorry for yourself waiting for the universe to throw you a bone, try acting like you’re happy—even if you aren’t.A sincere smile and a forced smile will cause the same chemical reactions in your brain,so you can actually fool your mind into feeling better by making it react chemically as if thingswere going well. 22 Reassure yourself that everything is good—even if you don’t feel it.“ 23 If you’re stuck in traffic, then everything else must be going horribly, too,” says Anne Parker,a wellness counselor.By blowing negative events out of proportion, you’re setting yourself up for feeling down all day.Instead, acknowledge that you’re stuck in t raffic, but also bring to mind something good, like the beautiful scenery outside the window. That way, you’ll get in the habit of forbidding negative circumstances from blanketing your whole day.Swearing to lose 20 pounds or to run a marathon seems like A recent study could tell you the answer. The study looked into thousands of teenagers and found that those who felt better about life as young adults tended to have higher incomes by the time they turned 29.Those who were happiest earned an average of $8,000 more than those who were the most depressed. The researchers, from University College London and the University of Warwick, say that very gloomy teens,no matter how tall or smart they were, earned 10% less than their peers, while the happier ones earned up to 30% more.Happier teenagers have an easier time getting through school, college and the job interview, chiefly because they always feel better about life.It may also be true that happier people find it easier to make friends, who are often the key to homework help or networking.A report in June suggested that professional respect was more important than dollars in terms of workplace happiness. In August scientists announced that they had found the gene for happiness in women,Alas (the same gene doesn’t appear to have the same effect on men). And in October researchers in the UK and in the US announced that people who eat seven portions of fruit and vegetables a day report being the happiest. The big question is: if it is really true that happier kids end up being wealthier kids,is it necessary for parents to get their kids to do the homework? The fact is that no homework will make kids happy but surely hurt their grades.Studies do show, after all, that more education leads to betterpaid jobs, which may give us a deep thought.“These findings show that the teenagers’happiness is important to their future success,” one of the report’s authors writes.“But what is the most important is that we should find a way to help children gain more satisfaction from doing schoolwork.”1.What conclusion can the researchers draw from the recent study? 位敦市安定阳光实验学校高三英语二轮复习专题突破精品训练:阅读理解AWe keep reading that TV is bad for you. If this is true, how come the current generation of TV-addicted kids is much smarter than we are? In my home, the only people who can work the remote control are the children.Perhaps TV does educate you. For example, you learn a useful medical fact: A person who has been shot always has time to speak an incomplete sentence before he dies. “The killer was…” (dies)But I guess the biggest things we learn from TV can be regarded as “Life Skills”. Bad things only happen on dark and stormy nights. Emotional breakdowns cause people to wander in the heavy rain without umbrellas. And contrary to what scientists say, the crack(霹雳) of lightning and the accompanying flash happen at exactly the same time, wherever you are.I’ve even acquired useful geographical facts from science-fiction shows: Aliens speak English no matter which planet they come from.Making use of what we learn from TV can improve our security. Consider these truths. If y ou are ever attacked by 20 bad guys, don’t worry about being outnumbered. The criminals will hang back and take turns to approach you in ones and twos just so you can conveniently defeat them all. Bad guys who are completely covered in black clothes always remove their black masks to reveal that they are in fact, aha, women.TV also teaches us important information about escaping from danger. Watch and learn. (1) If anyone is running after you down a passage, you will find that boxes have been conveniently placed near all the walls you need to jump over. (2) If you are tall and handsome, you can run from any number of armed criminals, and every shot will miss you.Be warned, however. If your name card says “henchman” (帮凶) and you are part of a group of plain-looking people trying to catch a handsome individual, a single shot will kill you. But don’t be anxious: TV also delivers useful information for bad guys. All cars are inflammable (易燃的) and have amazing shock absorbers that enable them to fly into the air and land without damage — except police cars.TV even teaches us about TV. Whenever anyone turns on a TV, it shows a news flash about someone they know. They then turn the box off immediately after that news item.51. By saying “A person who has been shot always has time to speak an incomplete sentencebefore he dies” (Paragraph 2), the writer shows his________.A. humorB. sympathyC. deep concernD. medical knowledge52. On TV what usually happens when a person turns it on?A. The news shown is always about someone the person knows.B. The person always turns off the TV when it’s time for news.C. The program shown is always about the importance of TV.D. TV always shows news about famous people.54. What’s the main idea of this passage?A. Life skills can be learned from TV.B. It could be one of the largest crocodiles to be captured alive in recent years, he said, quoting local crocodile experts.Elorde said the crocodile killed a water buffalo in an attack witnessed by villagers last month and was also suspected of having attacked a fisherman who went missing in July.He said he sought the help of experts at a crocodile farm in western Palawan province."We were nervous but it's our duty to deal with a threat to the villagers," Elorde told The Associated Press by telephone. "When I finally stood before it, I couldn't believe my eyes."After initial sightings at a creek, the hunters set four traps, which the crocodile destroyed. They then used sturdier traps using steel cables, one of which finally caught the enormous reptile late Saturday, he said.About 100 people had to pull the crocodile, which weighs about 2,370 pounds (1,075 kilograms), from the creek to a clearing where a cranelifted it into a truck, he said. The crocodile was placed in a fenced cage in an area where the town plans to build an ecotourism park for species found in a vast marshland(沼地) in Agusan, an impoverished region about 515 miles (830 kilometers) southeast of Manila, Elorde said."It will be the biggest star of the park," Elorde said, adding that villagers were happy that they would be able to turn the dangerous crocodile "from a threat into an asset."Despite the catch, villagers remain cautious because several crocodiles still roam the outskirts of the farming town of about 37,000 people. They have been told to avoid venturing into marshy areas alone at night, Elorde said.56. A researcher was appointed to study the performance of some top referees. The researcher organized an experimental tournament (标赛) involving four youth teams. Each match lasted an hour, divided intothree periods of 20 minutes during which different referees were in charge.Observers noted down the referees’ errors, of which there were 61 over the tournament. Converted (转换) to a standard match of 90 minutes, each referee made almost 23 mistakes, a remarkably high number. The researcher then studied the videotapes to analyze the matches in detail. Surprisingly, he found that errors were more likely when the referees were close to the incident. When the officials got it right, they were, on average, 17 meters away from the action. The average distance in the case of errors was 12 meters. The research shows the optimum (最佳的) distance is about 20 meters. There also seemed to be an optimum speed. Correct decisions came when the referees were moving at a speed of about 2 meters per second. The average speed for errors was 4 meters per second. If FIFA, football's international ruling body, wants to improve the standard of refereeing at the next World Cup, it should encourage referees to keep their eyes on the action from a distance, rather than rushing to keep up with the ball, the researcher argues. He also says that FIFA’s insistence that referee s should retire at age 45 may be misguided. If keeping up with the action is not so important, their physical condition is less critical.51. The experiment conducted by the researcher was meant to _______.A. reexamine the rules for football refereeingB. analyze the causes of errors made by football refereesC. set a standard for football refereeingD. review the decisions of referees at the 1998 World Cup52. The findings of the experiment show that _______.A. errors are more likely when a referee keeps close to the ballB. the far ther the referee is from the incident, the fewer the errorsC. the more slowly the referee runs, the more likely errors will occurD. errors are less likely when a referee stays in one spot53. The word “officials” most probably refers to _______.A. the researchers involved in the experimentB. the inspectors of the football tournamentC. the referees of the football tournamentD. the observers at the site of the experiment54. What is one of the possible conclusions of the experiment?A. The ideal retirement age for an experienced football referee is45.B. Age should not be the chief consideration in choosing a football referee.C. A football referee s hould be as young and energetic as possible.D. An experienced football referee can do well even when in poor physical condition.BPsychology(心理学) has a new application in the field of medicine. Many doctors, together with their patients, are looking for alternative methods of treatment of physical problems. In large hospitals, modern therapy(疗法) seems to focus on the physical disease. Patients may feel they are treated like broken machines. Some doctors have recognized this as a problem. They are now using psychological therapy, in which the patient is working with the doctors against the disease with the help of medicine. The patient does not wait for the medicine and treatment to cure him or her, but instead the patient joins in the fight. The doctor knows that a disease affects a patient's body physically. The body of the patient changes because of the disease. He is not only physically affected, but also has an emotional response to the disease. Because his mind is affected, his attitude and behavior change. The medical treatment might cure the patient's physical problems, but the patient's mind must fight the emotional ones. For example, the studies of one doctor, Carl Simonton, M. D., have shown that a typical cancer patient has predictable attitudes. She typically feels depressed, upset, and angry. Her constant depression makes her acts unfriendly toward her family, friends, doctors, and nurses. Such attitudes and behaviors prevent recovery. Therefore, a doctor's treatment must help the patient change that. Simonton's method emph asizes treatment of the “whole” patient. The attitude of a cancer patient receiving radiation therapy, an X-ray treatment, can become more positive. The physician who is following Simonton's psychological treatment plan suggests that the patient imagine that he or she can see the tumor(肿瘤) in the body. In the mental picture, the patient "sees" a powerful beam of radiation like a million bullets of energy. The patient imagines the beam hitting the tumor cells and causing them to shrink. For another cancer patient, Dr. Simonton asks him to imagine the medicine going from the stomach into the bloodstream and to the cancer cells. The patient imagines that the medicine is like an army fighting the diseased cells and sees the cancer cells gradually dying and his blood carry away the dead cells. Both the medical therapy and the patient's positive attitude fight the disease.Doctors are not certain why this mental therapy works. However, this use of psychology does help some patients because their attitudes about themselves change. They become more confident because they use the power within their own minds to help stop the disease.Another application of using the mind to help cure disease is the use of suggestion therapy. At first, the doctor helps the patient to concentrate deeply. The patient thinks only about one thing. He becomes so unaware of other things around him that he is asleep, or rather ina trance(催眠状态). Then the physician makes “a suggestion” to the patient about the medical problem. The patient's mind responds to the suggestion even after the patient is no longer in the trance. In this way, the patient uses his mind to help his body respond to treatment. Doctors have learned that this use of psychology is helpful for both adults and children. For example, physicians have used suggestion to help adults deal with the strong pain of some disease. Furthermore, sometimes the adult patient worries about her illness so much that the anxiety keeps her from getting well. The right suggestions may help the patient to stop being anxious. Such treatment may help the patient with a chronic(慢性的)diseases. Asthma (哮喘)is an example of a chronic disorder. Asthma is a disease that causes the patient to have difficulty in breathing. The patient starts to cough and sometimes has to fight to get the air that he or she needs. Psychology can help relieve the symptoms of this disorder. After suggestion therapy, the asthma patient breathes more easily.Physicians have learned that the psychological method is very useful in treating children. Children respond quickly to the treatment because they are fascinated by it. For example, Dr. Basil R. Collison has worked with 121 asthmatic children in Sydney, Australia, and had good results. Twenty-five of the children had excellent results. They were able to breathe more easily, and they did not need medication. Another forty-three were also helped. The symptoms of the asthma occurred less frequently, and when they did, they were not as strong. Most of the children also felt better about themselves. Doctors have also used suggestion to change habits like nail-biting, thumb-sucking, and sleep-related problems. Many professional medical groups have accepted the medical use of psychology and that psychology has important applications in medicine.55. What does the passage mainly discuss?A. How suggestion therapy benefits adults and children.B. How modern therapy focuses on the disease.C. Responses from the medical world.D. How to use the mind against disease.56. How does psychological therapy work?A. The patient waits for the medicine and treatment to cure him.B. The doctor uses medical treatment to cure the patient's problems.C. The doctor, the medicine, and the patient work together to fight disease.D. The patient uses his mind to cure himself.57. What can we learn from the studies of Carl Simonton, M. D.?A. The medical treatment can cure the patient's mental disease.B. The treatment of a patient by treating the body and the mind is necessary.C. The mental treatment is more important than medical treatment.D. Few patients have emotional response to the disease.58. AArtist Zsudayka zing Terrell talked about her family s history,“My people were brought here on the bottom of a ship. They were sold and re-named. My dad s side of the family took the last name of his job, butlers. My mom s side of the family took the last name of the plantation (大農场).” Today, she and her husband, artist James Terrell, explore that identity in their work. Their new exhibit of paintings recently in Manassas,Virginia is called “Born at the B ottom of the Ship”.Over the generations,Africans became African Americans with a new culture, and Nina Terrell includes different parts of that story in her art. There are things that look like African cloth and design and things that make you think of A merican culture. An example is “Hope and Grace”, a painting of two women wearing colorful clothes with traditional African patterns. Pointing to their hair, she says,“They have these big afros (非洲发型)so it could be 1960,it could be 2018.”James Terrell s style is more abstract. Maim Water, the first painting visitors see in the exhibit, shows a woman rising from the ocean. Terrell explains,“Maim Water i s a goddess of the sea... There’s no light going through; there’s not a lot of color being seen,as opposed to the other ones. So,it’s just showing the time of the slaves being brought to America.”But he also likes to play with color. Growing up,Terrell attended a church with colored glass windows, and he learned how light goes through the windows. Many products we buy may cause harm to animals, the environment,or people. However, the latest diet trend—pagan—tries to solve it and combine nutrition with ethics. “This way of eating makes the most sense for our health and the health of ourplanet. It is sustainable (可持续的)and kinder to animals,” Dr Mark Hyman, the creator of the trend, told The Telegraph.Pagan combines “pale” and “vegan”,two popular diets that are opposites. Vegans (纯素食主义),like vegetarians, don t eat meat. However, they don t eat eggs, dairy,or other animal products either. Veganism is an ethical choice for people who care about the environme nt and the cruelty of modern animal farming. Pales,on the other hand, eat lots of meat and fruit, while avoiding grains and dairy. For pales,it’s about proper nutrition. They want to bring back the diet of prehistoric humans to modern society, saying that we did not evolve to eat bread and cheeses. They will order a hamburger without the bun. Both diets lack dairy products like cheese and yogurt. The rest is a compromise. About 75 percent of a pegan diet should be fruits and vegetables. It is not a bad th ing because “they are rich in fiber for a healthy body and are low in calories which can help keep a healthy weight”,Dietician Chloe Hall told the Huff Post. What about meat?In the pagan diet, meat becomes a side dish. According to the US Geological Survey, the meat for a hamburger needs more than 1,700 liters of water. So we should all eat less meat.People may have different opinions about how to eat healthily. But,as a way of life,it’s important to “establish routines that are simple... and livable”,a US doctor Arthur Agitation posted on social media platform Twitter.1. When it comes, people from around the world, including 5,000 in the small town today, watch this tongue-twisting (发音饶舌的)small town for a sign from one groundhog that supposedly predicts when that years' spring will arrive. If it's a cloudy day outside when the groundhog pops from its cave, then spring will arrive early that year. However,if it is sunny outside, the groundhog will supposedly be scared by its own shadow, hiding underground for six more weeks of cold weather.Of course,Punxsutawney Phil's prediction is no more able to guarantee the extended forecast than your local weatherman. Regrettably, mosquitoes can do more than cause an itchy (发痒的)wound. Some mosquitoes spread several serious diseases. New research now shows how mosquitoes choose who to bite.Mosquitoes need blood to survive. They are attracted to human skin and breath. They smell the carbon dioxide gas, which all mammals breathe out. This gas is the main way for mosquitoes to know that a warm-blooded creature is nearby. But mosquitoes also use their eyes and sense of touch. Michael Dickinson is a professor at the California Institute of Technology. His research shows how these small insects, with even smaller brains, use three senses to find a blood meal.Michael Dickinson's team used plumes—a material that rises into the air of carbon dioxide gas into a wind tunnel. They then used cameras to record the mosquitoes. The insects followed the plume. Then, the scientists placed dark objects on the lighter colored floor and walls of the tunnel. Mr. Dickinson said,at first, the mosquitoes showed no interest in the objects at all. “What was quite striking and quite surprising is that the mosquitoes fly back and forth for hours. These are hungry females and they completely ignore the objects on the floor and wall of the tunnel. But the moment they get a hit of CO2,they change their behavior quite obviously and now would become attracted to these little visual blobs (斑点).”This suggested to the researchers that a mosquito's sense of smell is more important in the search for food. Once mosquitoes catch a smell of a human or animal, they also follow visual signals.5. What do mosquitoes mainly use to find their targets?A. Sense of smell.B. Sense of touch.C. Sense of sight.D. Smart brains.6. The first response of the mosquitoes to the objects in the experiment is ___.A. to fly to the dark onesB. to catch and stick to themC. to take no notice of themD. to attach themselves to them7. How can we avoid being attacked by mosquitoes according to the text?A. Don't let them see us.B. Use dark objects to stop them.C. Make them fly back and forth for hours.D. Attract them to objects full of carbon dioxide gas.8. What can be the best title for the text?A. How Do Mosquitoes Survive?B. Why Do Mosquitoes Need Blood?C. How Do Mosquitoes Choose to Bite You?D.
