Features—a definite stand on an issue;willing to argue against, or defend; argue for the ratification of a certain event. Requirements—independently complete, under the supervisor’s guidance, reflect the candidate’s own research findings.
Course paper/Term paper
Definition—a course paper is written after a specific course is learned or at the end of the term. Features—the content in line with the course requirements and under the instruction of the course instructor.
Research paper
Definition—a research paper can be intelligent, well-informed, interesting, and original in the conclusions. Features—study the authenticable materials from authority resources as many as possible to draw a logical and valuable conclusion. Uses—textbooks, monograph, and all other documentary works Components—title, author, affiliation,abstract, keywords,introduction, theoretical analysis and / or experiment description, results, discussion or conclusion, acknowledgements, reference, etc.
Thesis Paper(dissertation)
Definition--Thesis paper is usually written and submitted in particular fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MA or MS(or Ph.D)in a specific discipline. A dissertation is a lengthy, formal treatise, especially one written by a candidate for a master’s or doctoral degree at a university or a research institution. A doctoral dissertation represents an original contribution to knowledge construction, and is more detailed study of a research problem than that required for the master’s degree.
The first – within the reach of the author and capable of being completes within the assigned or suggested time limit. The second – of practical value or great implication for the specialty or the developmen of economy or science in general. The third – be available with sufficient materials and documents in reading and investigations. The fourth – tested theoretically and experimentally as demands thoroughness, accuracy and objectivity. The fifth—free from the author’s bias or preference
As is often required, a thesis for the degree of MA or MS should be of something new, while a dissertation for the degree of Ph.D should be of something original and creative.

Term paper:refers to a major assignment in a school or college course representative of a student’s achievements during a particular term. Thesis: refers to an idea or theory that is expressed as a statement to show its author’s stand-point or belief on some particular issue. Dissertation: refers to a long report or speech on a particular subject, esp. a treatise written for the degree of master or doctor at a university.
Components— acknowledgements, abstracts (in Chinese and in English), introduction and /or literature review, methodology, data collection and data analysis, findings and conclusions, suggestions or future work, etc.
The difference among them
Report paper refers to an account of some particular subject or issue which is published in a newspaper or magazine or broadcast over the radio or on television. Research paper is also known as a library paper or a thesis. It refers to formal, fairly long and well documented composition which aims to explore, discuss, analyze, and finally to find new opinions and results in a certain factual or theoretical issue.
