The Pursuit of Dreams: A Journey through the Cinematic Masterpiece "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"Imagine a world where the lines between reality and fantasy blur, where the extraordinary coexists with the mundane, and where the true essence of life lies in the pursuit of one's dreams. This is the captivating world that the film "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" invites us to explore. Directed by and starring Ben Stiller, this cinematic gem takes us on a mesmerizing journey that transcends the boundaries of the ordinary and delves into the extraordinary. At the heart of the story is Walter Mitty, a meek and unassuming man who works as a negative asset manager at LIFE magazine. Trapped in a world of monotony and unfulfilled desires, Walter finds solace in his vivid daydreams, where he becomes the hero of his own imaginary adventures. However, when a negative crucial to the magazine's final cover goes missing, Walter is thrust into a real-life quest to recover it, leading him on an exhilarating journey that will forever change his life.As Walter embarks on this unexpected adventure, the film seamlesslyblends the mundane and the extraordinary, creating a captivating narrative that resonates with audiences on a profound level. The stunning cinematography, coupled with a stirring musical score, transports us to breathtaking locations around the globe, from the picturesque streets of New York City to the majestic landscapes of Iceland and the Himalayas. One of the film's greatest strengths lies in its ability to explore the universal themes of self-discovery, personal growth, and the pursuit of one's dreams. Walter's transformation from a timid and passive individual to a confident and adventurous soul is a testament to the power of embracing the unknown and stepping out of one's comfort zone. Through his journey, he confronts his fears, challenges his limitations, and ultimately rediscovers the true essence of his being. The film's visual storytelling is nothing short of mesmerizing. The transition between Walter's daydreams and the real world is seamless, creating a sense of awe and wonder that captivates the audience. The use of special effects is not merely a gimmick but a tool to enhance the emotional depth of the narrative, allowing the viewer to fully immerse themselves in Walter's inner world and experience the exhilaration of his adventures. One of the standout moments in the film is the iconic skateboarding scene, where Walter, with a newfound sense of courage anddetermination, navigates through the treacherous streets of the Himalayas. The scene is a stunning display of visual mastery, blending breathtaking cinematography, daring stunts, and a pulsating musical score to create a truly unforgettable sequence.Beyond its visual splendor, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" also delves into the themes of nostalgia, the power of human connection, and the importance of embracing the present moment. The film's exploration of LIFE magazine's transition from print to digital media serves as a metaphor for the changing times and the need to adapt while preserving the essence of what makes us human.Throughout the film, Walter's relationships with his coworkers, his mother, and the mysterious woman he encounters on his journey serve as catalysts for his personal growth and transformation. These relationships are beautifully depicted, with each character adding depth and nuance to the overall narrative. In the end, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" is not just a film about a man's quest to find a lost negative; it is a poignant and inspiring story about the power of the human spirit to overcome obstacles, embrace the unknown, and chase after the dreams that set our souls on fire. It is a timeless tale that reminds us to live life to the fullest, to embrace the extraordinary that lies within the mundane, and to never stop seeking the adventure that awaits us around every corner.。
thepursuitofdream(追逐梦想)第一篇:the pursuit of dream (追逐梦想)The Pursuit of Dream Ladies and Gentlemen: It’s my great honor to stand here to share my speech with you.T oday the topic of my speech is: The Pursuit of Dream. Now let’s think of our old days as we were students in primary schools.Have you ever remembered that the teachers often ask questions as “what’s your dream?”, or “what are you want to be in the future?” and what’s your answe r in that childish and fantastic age? Has anyone of you answered like this: “I want to be a painter”, or “I want to be a scientist”, or “I plan to be a police”? A few years later, we start our new journey of study in high schools and become mature and practical in our mind. Then, have you ever changed your dreams? If so, what’s it? But now, I think, most of us become down-to-earth and the dream is more practical than before. However, have you taken actions to pursue your dream? Are you working hard enough to make your dream come true? As for myself, I have dreamed to be an excellent police in high school due to there are so many thefts in my hometown while they are seldom caught.Sooner I have realized how ridiculous am I and now I turn to realistic: I just want to be a translator. How do I pursue my dream? First of all, I try my best to correct the pronunciation and read the textbook or other English magazines such as: English weekly, English salon and the like.I try to do this day by day.Now I have improved my reading ability a lot and it also enlarged my vocabulary.Secondly, I often do some translating extension and embrace my teacher’s suggestion. It benefits me st but not the least, I realize my dream by reading Chinese literature.Maybe you will say it’s what theChinese major students should do.If you say so, you are badly wrong. For as an English major student, how can you know others well if you even don’t familiar with your country? On the other hand, it also benefits me in translation and writing. In a word, I have already working in my dream. What about you? That’s all.Thank you.

(We are all dream chasers)由此开启第一单元的学习。
In the pursuit of one's dreams, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to success. However, there are some fundamental principles that can guide us on our paths towards realizing our aspirations.Firstly, it is imperative to have a clear and well-defined dream. Without a specific goal to strive for, our efforts will be scattered and unfocused. Once we have identified our dream, we must develop a roadmap that outlines the steps we need to take to achieve it. This roadmap should be flexible and adaptable, as circumstances may change along the way.Secondly, we must cultivate unwavering determination and perseverance. The pursuit of our dreams will inevitably encounter obstacles and setbacks. It is during these challenging times that we must summon our inner strengthand resolve to stay the course. We must never allow setbacks to extinguish the flame of our aspirations.Thirdly, it is essential to surround ourselves with positive and supportive people. Having a strong support system can provide us with the encouragement and motivation we need to keep going when times get tough. Our friends, family, and mentors can offer valuable advice and guidance, and their belief in us can help us to overcome self-doubt.Fourthly, we must embrace ongoing learning and development. The world is constantly changing, and our knowledge and skills must evolve accordingly. Continuous learning is essential for staying competitive and adapting to new challenges. By seeking out opportunities to expand our horizons, we empower ourselves to overcome obstacles and achieve our dreams.Fifthly, we must develop a healthy mindset. Our thoughts and beliefs have a profound impact on our actions and outcomes. By cultivating a positive and optimistic mindset, we can overcome self-limiting beliefs and developthe confidence we need to succeed. Visualizing our goals and affirmations can help us to stay focused and motivated.Lastly, it is important to remember that the journey of pursuing our dreams is an ongoing process. There will be times of progress and times of setbacks. It is during these setbacks that we must learn, adapt, and stay the course. The pursuit of our dreams is not simply about achieving a specific goal, but about the growth and transformation that we undergo along the way.

Is it possible for you to become a DJ if you were in thesame condition?DJ (disc jockey or deejay)DJ is a person who mixes recorded music for an audience. There are a variety of DJs, depending on where they work (e.g. radio, club and mobile DJs) or what types of musical performance techniques they use (e.g. electronica, reggae and hip‐hop DJs).
TurntableA turntable is a circular revolving platesupporting a record as it is played. By adjustingthe speed of the turntable, either by adjustingthe speed knob, or by manipulating the plate(e.g. by slowing down the plate by puttinga finger gently along the side), DJs can match the tempos of different records so their rhythms can be played together at the same time without clashing or make a smooth, seamless transition from one song to another.
DJ mixerA mixer is a device for merging input signals to produce a combined output in the form of sounds or pictures. Most DJ mixers have far fewer channels than a mixer used by a record producer or audio engineer.
DJ softwareUnlike most music player software designed for regular consumers, DJ software can play at least two audio files simultaneously, display the waveforms of the files on screen and enable the DJ to listen to either source. The waveforms allow the DJ to see what is coming next in the music and how the playback of different files is aligned.

Sounds impossible? Not if you are Robbie Wilde, who wasdetermined to pursue his dream ofdriving dancers to their feet despite hishearing loss.Deaf DJBy Robbie Wilde as told to Kenneth Millerwas five, my family moved to the United States. I started getting ear infections every three months or so. We didn’t have health insurance infection, my parents couldn’t pay for the treatment. I went deaf in my right ear and was left with 50 percent hearing in my left. Over time , my remaining hearing dropped to 20 percent, where it is today. My doctors predicted that I would be completely deaf by now , so I think I’m doing pretty well .2 There was always music on in my house when I was little.I loved listening to Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley,Michael Jackson. My dad was a DJ, so he played disco, folk, dance, rock, and music from other countries. For my 18th birthday, my dad asked me to deejay at the restauranthe owned. After doing that for a few weeks, I was hooked. I wanted to learn more.I e‐mailed DJ Shiftee, a well‐known New York City DJ, whenI was 25: “I know you like a challenge . How about teaching a deaf person to deejay?” He wrote back the next day: “Challengeaccepted.” He tutoredme twice a week for two years, helping me develop correct technique. I practiced four hours a day.Now when I’m performing, muscle memory takes over .When I started deejaying at clubs, I wouldn’t tell the managersI was deaf. I would just show up , introduce myself, and startplaying music. At the end of the night, someone would say, “Oh, here’s the check.” And I’d say, “What? Oh, I can’t hear.” They were always so surprised. Sometimes I would bring doctor’s notes because they wouldn’t believe me. It was reassurance that they were giving me jobs because I was good, not out ofsympathy . Eventually people started calling me “that Deaf DJ,”and the name stuck. For a show, I set up one speaker facing my left side, my goodear, and make it louder all the way up. The speakers that playthe bass are on the floor behind me so I can hear some of thelower frequencies and feel the beat in my feet. And I can feelthe energy of the song and the crowd goes crazy, you feel that. The song comes to life .I use software that turns the music into lines of color ona computer screen. Red is the bass, blue is snare, green is the vocals or melody. I’m visuallyhearing the music. What I love about deejaying is the creativity , what you can do withmachine, two turntables, and a mixer. The next time you go dancing cover your ears, and you’ll a little bit of how I do it. You’ll start using your other senses. You’ll start seeing that you’re able to hear the music in a different way. Music is not all about hearing.8 I play all sorts of get‐togethers now, from college parties to corporate events. I also go to elementary schools for the deaf and talk to the students about motivation and believing inthemselves. I ’m big on talking to the parents. I tell them, “Myadvice to you is to let [your kids] chasetheir dreams. I’m a deaf DJ, so why not ?”1. (Para. 6)This text is a first‐person narrative based on an interview or a conversation with Robbie Wilde. A written text though it is, it demonstrates some stylistic characteristics we can find in conversational English.First, look at the informal words and expressions throughout the text that make the reader feel comfortable because of familiarity: or so (para. 1), hooked (para. 2), stuck (para. 4), all the way (para. 5), a little bit (para. 7), big on (para. 8), and so on. In the case of direct quotations, which are used by the narrator to add realism and liveliness, they naturally contain informal usages and ellipses, such as How about …? (para. 3), Challenged accepted. (para. 3), What? (para. 4), and why not? (para. 8).Second, most sentences are not particularly long and also do not have complex structures. In the cases where sentences are connected through transitional words, simple coordinating conjunctions such as and, so and because are used.Third, the narration of events or activities relies on simple verbs, verbal phrases or noun clauses instead of strong and complex verbs or nouns. Examples of such verbs, verbal phrases and noun clauses include, among many others, have, go, do, tell, talk, ask, feel, bring, play; take over, show up, set up, come to life; where it is, what you can do, how I do it, what I like about …1.
