北京理工大学博士研究生入学考试英语试题附答案和详解北京理工大学20XX年博士研究生入学考试英语试题Part ⅠReading Comprehension (40 points)Directions:In this part there are four passages for you to read. After each passage there are five questions, below each of whom there are four answers marked A, B, C and D. Choose the best answer and mark the corresponding letter with a pencil on the MA CHINE-SCORING ANSWER SHEET with a single line through the center.Passage OneI was introduced to the concept of literacy animator in Oladumi Arigbede's (1994) article on high illiteracy rates among women and school dropout rates among girls. According to Arigbede, literacy animators view their role as assisting in the self-liberating development of people in the world who are struggling for a more meaningful life. Animators are a family of deeply concerned and committed people whose gut-level rejection of mass human pauperization compels them to intervene on the side of the marginalized. Their motivation is not derived from a love of literacy as merely another technical life skill, and they accept that literacy is never culturally or ideologically neutral.Arigbede writes from her experiences as an animator working with women and men in Nigeria. She believes that literacy animators have to make a clear choice about whose culture and whose ideology will be fostered among those with whom they work. Do literacy educators in the United States consider whether the instruction they pursue conflicts with their students' traditional cultures or community, or fosters illiteraciesin learners' first or home languages or dialects and in their orality? Some approaches to literacy instruction represent an ideology of individualism, control, and competition. Consider, for example, the difference in values conveyed and re presented when students engage in choral reading versus the practice of having one student read out loud to the group. To identify as a literacy animator is to choose the ideology of “sharing, solida rity, love, equity, co-operation with and respect of both nature and other human beings.” Liter acy pedagogy that matches the animator ideology works on maintaining the languages and cultures of millions of minority children who at present are being forced to accept the language and culture of the dominant group. It might lead to assessment that examines the performance outcomes of acommunity of literacy learners and the social significance of their uses of literacy, as opposed to measuring what an individual can do as a reader and writer on a standardized test. Shor (1993) describes literacy animators as problem-posing, community-based, dialogic educators. Do our teacher-education text books on reading and language arts promote the idea that teachers should explore problems from a community-based dialogic perspective?1.A literacy animator is one who ______.A.struggles for a more meaningful lifeB.frees people from poverty and illiteracyC.is committed to marginalize the illiterateD.is concerned with what is behind illiteracy2.The author suggests that literacy educators in the US in a way ______.A.promote students' home languagesB.force students to accept their cultureC.teach nothing but reading and writingD.consider literacy as of non-neutral nature3.Arigbede worked with Nigerians probably to ______.A.teach American customs and ideologyB.make a choice of culture to be fosteredC.reject the values of the dominant classD.help maintain Nigerian language and culture4.According to the author, “choral reading” may represent ______.A.individualism B.collectivismC.competition D.immersion5.Animator ideology emphasizes more on ______.A.the social function of literacyB.students' performance in testsC.the dominant group’s languageD.the attainment of life skillsPassage TwoAccording to one survey of 12,000 people, about 30 percent of those making New Year'sresolutions say they don't even keep them into February. And only about 1 in 5actually stays on track for six months or more, reports ediets.com, a consumer diet and fitness Web site. But don't let those odds make you reach for the nearest bag of potato chips. Experts say you can keep those resolutions long term, even if you're struggling now.“The motivation comes from within, and so when you find that you're declining in your healthy eating program, and then just ask yourself, ‘Is this going to get me the results that I want?',” says Leslie Stewart, a registered dietitian and licensed nutritionist.“And if you're doing something every day to eat heal thy, then that's going to pay off in the long run.”Stewart advises to use what she calls the 90-10 eating rule.“If you're eating healthy 90 percent of the time, then 10 percent of the time, you can cut yourself some slack and eat pleasurably.”She says s he believes that “healthy eating is evolution instead of resolution.”The same principle can be applied to a lagging exercise resolution, too.Staying motivated is key to long-term success, and reviewing original goals can help strengthen a weakening workout program.Adding variety to a fitness regime also can prevent you from hanging up those exercise shoes. After a few weeks of well-intentioned workouts, boredom may be creeping you're your routine.Setting goals too high is another common mistake. “If you're not running a marathon at the end of the month, don't worry,” say Mayo Clinic experts. A too intense workout—and the resulting pain and stiffness—is discouraging and may force most to abandon a pro gram. Starting slowly is key.But if your goals already have fallen by the wayside,Uria says to start up again immediately.“A little setback is OK; get back on the horse and ride...drive toward that goal,” he says.6.According to the author, only about 20% people keeping their resolutions does not necessarily mean that ______.A.the figure is rather depressing and unexpected as wellB.those who have made their resolution should give up their effortC.whoever keep their resolutions should start eating potato chipsD.long-term resolutions are not important for those facing troubles7.What is the idea behind the 90-10 eating rule according to the passage?A.You should keep eating healthy 90% of the time.B.You should feel free to eat 10%of the time.C.You should learn to eat healthy gradually.D.Sudden change will be more efficient and effective.8.Which of the following you should avoid to keep yourself interested in exercise?A.Hanging up your exercise shoes if you feel tired.B.Keeping boredom away from your daily activity.C.Making a schedule with too high goals in it.D.Running a marathon at the beginning of the month.9.How many suggestions at least have been introduced concerning the exercise resolution?A.Four. B.Five. C.Six. D.Seven.10.What is critically important in making long-term resolutions successful?A.You should be struggling with yourself all the time.B.You should constantly evaluate the results you want.C.You should try to keep yourself motivated.D.You should try your best to diversify your fitness practice.Passage ThreeOur present generation of cultural critics, arriving after the assault of postmodernism and the increasingly widespread commercialization of culture, has been cast adrift, with out any firm basis for judgments. Publications and institutions to supportserious criticism, in this view, either no longer exist or are few in number.Critics today, it is also claimed, are too cozy behind the ivied walls of academe, con tent to employ a prose style that is decipherable only to a handful of the cognoscenti. The deadly dive of university critics into the shallow depths of popular culture, moreover, reveals the unwillingness of these critics to uphold standards. Even if the reasons offered are contradictory, these Jeremiahs huddle around their sad conclusion that serious cultural criticism has fallen into a morass of petty bickering and bloated reputations.Such narratives of declension, a staple of American intellectual life since the time of thePuritans, are misplaced, self-serving, and historically inaccurate and difficult to prove. Has the level of criticism declined in the last 50 years? Of course the logic of such an opinion depends on the figures that are being contrasted with one another. Any number of cultural critics thriving today could be invoked to demonstrate that cultural criticism is alive and well. But many new and thriving venues for criticism and debate exist today, and they are not limited solely to the discussion of literary works. Actually, they became so encrusted with their own certitude and political judgments that they became largely irrelevant. Today the complaint is that literary culture lacks civility. We live in an age of commercialism and spectacle. Writers seek the limelight, and one way to bask in it is to publish reviews that scorch the landscape, with Dale Peck as the fatuous, but not a typical, case in point. Heidi Julavits, in an essay in The Believer, lamented the downfall of serious fiction and reviewing. She sur veyed a literary culture that had embraced “snark”, her termfor hostile, self-serving reviews. The snark review, according to Julavits, eschews a serious engagement with literature in favor of a sound-bite approach, an attempt to turn the review into a form of entertainment akin to film reviews or restaurant critiques. A critic found cultural criticism to be in “critical condition.” For him, the postmodern turn to, theory, in its questioning of objectivity, cut the critical, independent ground out from under reviewers. The rise of chain bookstores and blockbuster best sellers demeaned literary culture, making it prey to the commercial values of the market and entertainment. The criticism does not seem discontinuous. Nor should we forget that civility rarely reigned in the circles of New York intellectuals. The art critic Clement Greenberg physically pummeled the theater critic Lionel Abel after Abel rejected the view that Jean Wahl, the French philosopher, was anti-Semitic. Though Robert Peck has the reputation of a literary hatchet man, so far as I know his blows thus far have all been confined to the printed page.Cultural criticism has certainly changed over the years. The old days of the critic who wielded unchallenged authority have happily passed. Ours is a more pluralistic age, one not beholden to a narrow literary culture. The democratization of criticism—as in the Amazon system of readers' evaluating books—is a messy affair, as democracy must be. But the solution to the problems of criticism in the present is best not discovered in the musty basements of nostalgia and sentiment for the cultural criticism of a half-century gone. Rather the solution is to recognize, asJohn Dewey did almost a century ago, that the problems of democracy demand more democracy, less nostalgia for a goldenage that never was, and a spirit of openness to what is new and invigorating in our culture.11.What is the possible connection between cultural critics and publications and institutions?A.Cultural critics attack postmodernism and commercialization cherished by publications and institutions.B.Postmodernism and commercialization are attacked by the serious publications and institutions.C.Cultural criticism is short of judgments and will not exist without the support of publications and institutions.D.Publications and institutions show almost no interest in serious cultural criticism.12.How do the university critics like the serious cultural criticism?A.Cultural criticism is not serious enough when the articles are written in the cozy prose style.B.Popular culture is so prevailing that serious critics are not willing to keep to the shallow standards.C.Serious cultural criticism is full of insignificant quarrels and the public do not real ly trust it.D.Cultural critics have become so serious as to tell the stories imbued with American intellectual Puritanism.13.What is the author's opinion of the current complaint about the literary expansion into the other fields?A.When literary critics discuss issues with political judgments, their views are likely to be meaningless.B.It is reasonable for writers to seek limelight since we are living in the age of com mercialism.C.Critics should be encouraged to write and publish poignant articles which would scorch the landscape.D.It is the critics' responsibility to lament the downfall of serious fiction and reviewing.14.What does “the snark review” refer to according to Heidi Julavits?A.Cultural reviews which are unfriendly and selfish.B.Literary reviews avoiding serious criticism.C.Entertainment reviews in the film industry.D.Postmodern reviews independent of objectivity.15.In order to find a way out the current dilemma for the cultural criticism, the author suggests that ______.A.we should return to the old days when the critics passed their judgments without challengesB.pluralism should be held back, reinforcing the unchallenged authority in the literary criticismC.democratic criticism should not be adopted because it is rather messy as proved in the Amazon systemD.we should encourage more democracy, dismiss nostalgia and cultivate an open attitudePassage FourIn July, almost unnoticed by the national press, a deadly bird virus arrived on a pheasant farm in Surrey. Experts from the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) identified Newcastle disease, a virus usually mortal to turkeys and geese but not humans, in a flock of 9,000 pheasant chicks imported from France ahead of the shooting season.Within hours of the diagnosis, veterinary experts had swung into action, throwing up a 3 km exclusion zone around the farm near Cobham and culling 10,000 birds. The carcasses were burned and premises cleaned to stop the virus escaping. It was four weeks before Defra's Veterinary Exotic Diseases Division feltit was safe for poultry movements in the area to resume. This weekend, with the news that H5N1, a far more deadly bird virus, has reached Turkey, similar emergency plans are being readied by officials from Defra and other agencies. The scenario they are preparing for is that the H5N1 virus, which so far has led to the culling of billions of chickens in south-east Asia and 60 human deaths, will soon arrive on these shores. What happens next depends on where the outbreak occurs, whether it can be contained and—most important of all—whether it mutates to become infectious between people. So far, only poultry workers or those directly exposed to chicken faeces or blood are thought to be at risk, though direct human-to-human transmission cannot be ruled out. “Eve ry time a new person getsinfected with the virus there is a small chance that person will trigger a pandemic,” said Neil Ferguson, a scientist at Imperial College, who has been running simulations on what might happen were H5N1 to reach Britain. “It's a v ery small chance, probably 1 in a 1,000, 1 in 10,000 or less. ”Should diseased birds reach Britain, the first step for veterinary officials would be to contain the outbreak as they did with Newcastle disease. An amber alert would be sounded and samples sent to the Veterinary Laboratory Agency (VLA) in Weybridge, Surrey. If Ian Brown, the head of avian virology there, confirms the cause of death as H5N1, the alert level will be raised to red and a whole series of emergency procedures, from quarantine, restriction of poultry movements to culling, will swing into action. Other agencies, such as the Department of Health, the Health Protection Agency and the Ministry of De fence, would be brought into the loop. In the event that theoutbreak cannot be contained, Defra may have to consider mass culling programmes and the possibility of vaccination. At this point, with the risk of the virus spreading to human populations, the Department of Health would appoint a UK national influenza pandemic committee to coordinate the response of hospital trusts and local authorities. The Civil Contingency Secretariat (CCS) of the Cabinet will also be alerted and Cobra, the emergency committee which coordinates Whitehall's response to terrorism, readied for a possible breakdown in civil order. The Department of Health's pandemic preparedness plan published in March envisages as many as 54,000 Britons dying in the first few months of a flu pandemic. But in June, CCS officials warned that that could be an underestimate. The more likely figure, they said, was 700,000—projection the Department of Health is expected to take on board when it updates its pandemic preparedness plan later this month. In the most serious case, officials estimate there would be as many deaths in the 12weeks of an epidemic as there usually are in a year. At the peak of the pandemic, 19,000people would requite hospital beds, prompting councils to requisition schools to accommodate the sick.To treat the dying, the government would begin drawing down its stockpiles of Tamiflu (药名), an anti-viral drug that treats flu. But with only 14 courses, enough for a quarter of the population, likely to be available, sooner or later rationing would have to be imposed, with health professionals and essential civil servants the first in line. The government would also come under pressure to release stores of its precious flu vaccine. At present there are contingency plans for justtwo to three million doses. But there is no guarantee that vaccines which protect against annual human flu strains will also work against H5N1.The consequences hardly bear thinking about. Earlier this year, in a dress rehearsal in the East Midlands codenamed, Operation Arctic Circle, officials quickly concluded that mass mortuaries would be needed to bury the dead. But no one knows whether, in the event of a pandemic, any of these measures will prove effective. John Avizienius, senior scientific officer at the RSPCA and a member of Defra's avian influenza stakeholder group, said: “All you can do is plan for the worst case scenario.”The fear is that wild geese moving from western China to Siberia may have spread the virus to several species of ducks and gulls that briefly visit British shores on their annual migration north. These ducks, many of which may not show signs of illness, may be passing on the virus to poultry on British farms. In the hope that they are not, Defra and the Wildfowl and Wetland announced last week that they would be conducting tests on 11,000 wild birds—three times the normal level. “The risk of avian influenza spreading from eastern Russia to the UK via migrating birds is still low,” said Defra's chief vet, Debby Reynolds. “Howe ver, we have said all along that we must remain on the look out.”16.What does the “scenario” in Paragrap h 2 mean to Turkey?A.Turkey will be exposed to the nationwide aggression of the deadly virus as the most severely attacked country on these shores.B.Turkey must kill billions of chicken and other kinds of poultry.C.Turkey has to be responsible for the arrival of H5N1 on these shores.D.All the veterinary experts in Turkey will soon swing into action.17.What is, according to Neil Ferguson, the possible risk of bird flu if one gets infected?A.Anyone's infection will trigger pandemic though it is probably one in ten thousand.B.Each time a person gets infected with the virus will cause an enormous pandemic bird flu.C.The person infected with the virus will do great harm to people around him. The scent of books is a metaphor for the intellectual and emotional nourishment that reading provides. It is often described as a comforting and enriching experience that can be likened to finding a safe harbor for ones soul amidst the tumultuous waves of life. Here is an essay that captures the essence of this concept:The Enchantment of Books:A Haven for the SoulIn the everbusy world we inhabit, where the hustle and bustle of daily life can often leave us feeling overwhelmed, there exists a sanctuary that offers solace and tranquility. This haven is not a physical place, but rather a state of mind that can be accessed through the simple act of opening a book. The fragrance of paper and ink,the whispers of stories untold, and the wisdom of ages past all converge in this magical realm where the soul finds its anchor. The Aroma of KnowledgeThe first step into this haven is marked by the unique scent that emanates from the pages of a wellloved book. This is not just the smell of paper and ink,but the scent of knowledge,of stories, and of dreams. It is an aroma that can transport us to different times and places, allowing us to experience the lives of others,to learn from their triumphs and tragedies, and to grow in empathy and understanding. The Comfort of StoriesAs we delve deeper into the pages,we find ourselves enveloped by the comfort of stories. Each narrative is a tapestry woven with threads of human experience, reflecting the joys and sorrows, the hopes and fears that are universal to all.In the company of these tales, we are no longer alone in our struggles. We find kinship with the characters who, like us, face challenges and seek resolutions. The Solace of WisdomBeyond the stories, books offer the solace of wisdom. The thoughts of philosophers, the discoveries of scientists, the reflections of poetsall these are laid bare for us to explore and to ponder. In the quiet moments spent with a book,we can find answers to lifes most perplexing questions,or at least gain new perspectives that can illuminate our path. The Power of ImaginationMoreover, books are the catalysts for our imagination. They invite us to visualize the scenes described,to hear the voices of the characters, and to feel the emotions they experience. This active engagement with the text not only stimulates our creativity but also enriches our capacity for empathy and understanding. The Lasting ImpactThe journey through a book leaves an indelible mark on our psyche. It shapes our thoughts, influences our decisions, and enriches our conversations. The lessons learned and the insights gained are carried with us long after the final page is turned, becoming a part of our very essence.ConclusionIn conclusion, the haven of books is a sanctuary that offers more than just an escape from the worlds chaos. It is a place where the soul can find nourishment, where the mind can be challenged, and where the heart can be moved. As we continue to navigate the complexities of life, let us remember to seek refuge in the pages of a good book, for there we will find the scent of books that is truly a haven for the soul. This essay encapsulates the idea that books provide a comforting and enriching experience, serving as a metaphorical harbor for the soul in a world that can often be overwhelming.。

2020考博英语作文热点话题预测及范文:节约What is vividly revealed in the picture is that water is being reused in daily life at home. After washing rice, the water can be used to wash vegetables and then clean the mop and the toilet. What a harmonious scene it is!It is not difficult to find that what the picture intends to express is the importance of saving and protecting resources. On the one hand, as we all know, water resource is limited and water shortage is still a serious problem threatening the existence and survival of the whole human being. On the other hand, the phenomenon of wasting water can still be easily found anywhere in our daily life. For example, water taps are frequently left on by careless users. Someone even assumes that they have the right to waste water because they pay for it o that it has nothing to do with others. In fact, so precious water is that we cannot afford to waste it. Water resource is not only indispensable in our daily lifebut also in the industry and agriculture. It is hard to imagine what the world would be like when there I is no more water. It is fortunate that now the public is starting to pay attention. But, this is not adequate. As is shown in theabove picture, what we need is more actions to save andprotect resources! First of all, social environment is shaped by the general public, and the cultivation of conservation-minded society depends on the active involvement of every member of our society, be he old or young. Accordingly, an education campaign should be launched to call on people fromall walks of life to save and protect resources. In addition, saving and protecting resources is bound up with our daily life. We, college students, should spare no efforts to save valuable energy and natural resources such as power, water, coal, gas and so on. Only by the joint efforts of the whole society can we create a real conservation-minded society.。

That's globalization. And don't forget the millions of call centre jobs in India that workers in America and Europe used to do.Globalization also means it is easier to work in another country. So, is globalization a good or bad thing? That's a difficult question to answer.全球化的利弊英语作文篇2With the rapid social and economic development, globalization comes not to be an unfamiliar word to all of us. Though we are living in the affection of it, yet it is hard to tell it’s advantages and disadvantages.Globalization phenomenon is an outcome of socialdevelopment. The typical types are economic globalization, cultural globalization. As we all know, it is a double-edged sword. Therefore, we must pay more attention on this phenomenon and it’s development trend.Globalization has so many advantages, such as it makes the world become a small village and let people touch each other more convenient and easy, it increase free trade between nations and give the developing countries a terrific opportunity to develop themselves in all aspects quickly. What’s more, it can reduce the cultural barriers and let various of cultural get a better communication and development. On the contrary, it also has a lot of disadvantages. Because under globalization, every country’s economy can make a great influence of others, it make the economy of the world more fragile. In order to possess the good chance and precious resources, the disputes and even wars may take place between nations. In recent years, great risk of diseases being transported between nations has also become a threaten to people. As the globalization has become an irrevocable trend, we must adjust it. This phenomenon is an opportunity as well as a challenge. Consequently, every person, every nation should try the best to get a good position in the process of globalization and make full use of such a vital chance to be stronger.全球化的利弊英语作文篇3A prevailing phenomenon is that countries have less different between each other nowadays. Different person holds different views to this trend. As for me, I think its advantages outweigh the disadvantages. It is obvious that if all the countries share the same things, minority nationality regions are affected by the developedcountries. Then maybe their minority culture will vanish. Especially in today's word, the youth is more likely to understand modern culture, and they could forget some culture from their own countries.Though it is unnegligiblethat the problem, I mentioned above, I still stick on my opinion that it has more advantages. First, there will be an excellent chance for people who are from different countries to have a communication. People possess similar hobbies and life style, and they will have more common topics to talk about. It really can narrow the gap between two countries.Second, economic globalization can be seen from this trend, promoting all the countries' economy development. And we can get all the goods we want wherever you are. The third one is language and education. Countries are becoming less evident means people break the barrier of the differences between two languages, and it is quite good for academic communication and high level education. We can learn advanced ideas and views directly. All in all, the globalization is promoting many aspects of the countries, and actually we are experienced in it and benefit from this trend. As a result, I hold the view that the advantages outweigh the drawbacks.全球化的利弊英语作文篇4Globalization has found a significant place in the lives of the people. During the process of globalization, we have made a bridge where ideas and beliefs can cross the borders, and the walls of distrust and the barriers of suspicion between countries have graduallydisappeared. Though globalization is seen as a sign of a hopeful future by some, there are others who believe that it cancause a horrible disaster for the world economy.Counties benefit a lot from globalization, especially the developing countries. With it, there is a global market for companies to trade their products which can make the production sector develop rapidly. This gives lots of options to the manufacturers as well. Besides, competition keeps prices relatively low and it can provide a wider range of options for people, to choose from among the products of different nations. In addition, there is a sound flow of money, as a result, inflation is less likely to occur. But the disadvantages brought by globalization cannot be ignored. Globalization is causing Europeans to lose their jobs as work is being swerved to the Asian countries. The cost of labor in the Asian countriesis low as compared to other countries which is often argued that poor countries are exploited by the richer countries where the work force is taken advantage of and low wages are implemented. Moreover, companies are as opening their counterparts in other countries which can result in transferring the quality of their product to other countries, thereby increasing the chances of poor quality.Simply put, globalization is an ongoing process of integration of regional economies into global network of communication which the human being cannot hold back. So we should keep a positive attitude toward it, take good use of it and avoid disadvantages at the same time. Thus there will be a better world where all the people can have a brighter future.全球化的利弊英语作文篇5Even though globali zation affects the world’s economies in a positive way, its negative side should not be forgotten. Discussthe advantages and disadvantages of globalization. In the present age, globalization is playing an increasingly important role in our lives. But in the meantime whether it is a blessing or a curse has sparked a heated debate. Some people argue that globalization has a fundamentally beneficial influence on our lives, while many others contend that it has a detrimental effect as well.A convincing argument can be made about globalization is that it not only plays a pivotal role in the development of technology and economy, but also promotes the cultural exchange between different countries. To start with, it is the globalization that impelled many corporate to become an international group, thereby making a contribution to the local technology and employment. Specifically, when a multinational group establish a factory in a developing country, the new equipment, the new management skills and the job vacancies are all in the best interest of the local society. Moreover, people worldwide can get to know each other better through globalization. It is easy to see that more and more Hollywood blockbusters show cultures different from American, some recent exampl es are ‘Kungfu Panda’ and ‘The Mummy’.Admittedly, profit-driven globalization has severely affected young people. Today, in the metropolises in different countries, it is very common to see teenagers wearing NIKE T-shirts and Adidas footwear, playing Hip-Hop music on Apple iPods and eating at KFC. The culture that took a thousand years to form just seems similar in these cities; it looks like you can only distinguish them by their language. Meanwhile, in some developing countries, sweat workshops are always a concerning issue. For instance, reports show that some teenagers employed byNIKE’s contractors work in smelly factories over 14 hours a day, but are only paid fifty cents per hour.In summary, I would concede that globalization does come with some adverse effects. Despite that fact, benefits created by it far outweigh the disadvantages. Overall, I am convinced that we should further promote globalization and meanwhile the local government should take measures to combat cultural assimilation and sweat workshops.Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective? 全球化的利弊英语作文篇6The last decades has witnessed the accelerated advancement of economy, which brings the economic globalization,a tendence that we can never hold it back. Under the condition of economic globalization, cultural exchanges between countries and countries, regions and areas are frequent ,accompanied by opportunity it provides,we are also stood in front of the huge challenges to the culture.Just like a coin, which has two sides,on one aspect, the globalization is not only accelerating economic growth speed, spreading new technology and effective ways to improve the level of life rich and poor countries, but ,it is also a controversial process that may contribute to a national sovereignty, erosion infringement to local and traditional culture , and the threat of economic and social stability. Between globalization and culture that is a complementary relationship. And under the wave of economic globalization, how do we do at the same time of accepting foreign culture, can also maintain the development of traditional Chinese culture? From my perspective, For today'sChina,we’d better adhere to the use of Marxist ideological line and requirements of the socialist modernization, to analyze and criticize the traditional culture, to identify essence and dross with a calm and objective attitude, derive the traditional culture of all reasonable composition, gives our history a new contents and the era value, and Only in this way,can our china stride bravely forward under the impact of the globalization全球化的利弊英语作文篇7Globalization is a declarationof war upon all other cultures. And in culture wars, there is no exemption of civilians, there are no innocent bystanders. Why should it be expected that ancient and rooted civilizations are going to accept this peripheralisationwithout a struggle? The answer to that is that globalization carries an implicit promise that it will relieve poverty and offer securityperhaps the most ancient of human dreams. Because of the power of global capitalism to create wealth, it is assumed that this priority must sweep aside all other human preoccupations, including all existing institutions, interpretations and searches for meaning in the world. It is disingenuous to assume that economy, society and culture operate in separate spheres. This suggests that, one, exposed to the globalizing imperative, no aspect of social life, customary practice, traditionalbehaviour will remain the same. There have been, broadly, two principal responses in the world, which we may call the fatalistic and the resistant. It is significant that among the most fatalistic have been the leaders of G-7, Ex-President Clinton said globalization is a fact not a policy choice Tony Blair said it is inevitable and irreversible. It may be considered paradoxical that the leaders of the most dynamic and expanding economies in the world offer such a passive, unchallenging view of what are, after all, human-made arrangements. These are among the richest and most proactive regimes, which can wage endless war on the great abstraction, that is terror, topple regimes and lay down one WTO law for the poor and another for themselves. Is their helplessness in the presence of these mighty economic and cultural powers?全球化的利弊英语作文篇8Globalization can be found in five different areas: economic, cultural, political, religious, and social systems. It should not be narrowly confused with economic globalization, which is only one aspect. While some scholars and observers of globalization stress convergence of patterns of production and consumption and a resulting homogenization of culture, power, stress, and hunger, others stress that globalization has the potential to take many diverse forms. In economics, globalization is the convergence of prices, products, wages, rates of interest and profits.Globalization of the economy depends on the role of human migration, international trade, movement of capital, and integration of financial markets. The International Monetary Fund notes the growing economic interdependence of countries worldwide through increasing volume and variety of cross-border trade.全球化的利弊英语作文篇9People around the world may feel that the climate has been getting steadily warmer and warmer in recent years. CO2 makes up about 70% of the greenhouse gases, which is considered to be one of the greatest causes of global warming. It has harmful effects, causing the sea level to rise and many natural disasters to strike. So we must take effective measures to save our planet. First, we should use more clean energy and less coal and oil. Second, we should go to work on foot or by bus instead of driving a car if possible. Third, we should plant more trees, because plants can turn CO2 into oxygen. More importantly, we should form the habit of saving energy in our daily life.全球化的利弊英语作文篇11In this report, I learned a lot of things, but my first thought is that the cause of global warming is carbon dioxide increases. Why is carbon dioxide will increase? I think the reason is that people often feed drive, raising livestock, factories discharge smoke... And so on. But these are all can be solved together, perhaps can improve the earth continued warming, for example:close to the destination can ride a bike, Destination is far away, you can use public transport; Livestock waste processed into Hanoi again; Factory can build a waste treatment plant... And so on.Please do not underestimate the power of carbon dioxide, wait until the sea level rise, urban flooding and flooded farmland, in the end would have faced the crisis of insufficient food. Please join me shout: "stop hurt the behavior of the earth! The earth on which we live is only one."全球化的利弊英语作文篇12The cold winter has passed, but this winter with snow is not, is not how cold the weather, why is this so?I asked my mother, my mother said: "I don't know, you go online to check." I opened the computer, input -- global warming. There have been many answers on the layout.Because of human destruction of forests and other greenhouse gases from the burning of when, because these greenhouse gases with high transmittance in the visible light radiation from the sun, and the earth is reflected is highly absorbent, can strongly absorb infrared radiation on the ground, the greenhouse effect is often said that the "". Global warming may lead to consequences, will lead to a global redistribution of precipitation, melting glaciers and permafrost, rising sea levels, damage the balance of the ecosystem and the human food supply and living environment.Global warming is not only harmful to humans, but also endanger the survival of animals. For example, the polar bear, because of global warming, melting glaciers and polar bear hunting fish more difficult, and the ice melting fast, this continues, sooner or later the polar bears extinct species like the polar bear, Arctic wolf, Arctic animals arepenguins.Want to stop global warming, we should save every drop of water; plant more trees to reduce desertification; do not use disposable convenient bag; reduce the emission of carbon dioxide. I appeal to our homes, we act together now!全球化的`利弊英语作文篇13Recently,global warming has become a hot topic among people. It results from serious airpollution. As the environmental pollution is more and more strict, thetemperature of all the world has dramatic increased. Gradually, some disastersuch as drought, floodandGlaciers Melting follow. How terrible it is! Therefore,we need to protect our earth and fight against the disaster together. We shouldstart from the trivial side.Making contribution to protecting our home.全球化的利弊英语作文篇14With the development of economy, more and more greenhouse gases are being discharged into the air. More importantly, we should form the habit of saving energy in our daily life.全球化的利弊英语作文篇15One of the most serious problem in front of the world is theglobal warming. There are some reasons that can cause such a problem.First, people cut down trees and forests freely.Besides, people burn things everywhere - even it is not allowed.People waste things out of control is another reason. So,we should try our best to save things as much as we can.We should encourage others to do so.If we do it,the stage will be better. If we don't take any action,as the warld is becoming warmer and warmer, the water level is rising. It can cause subsidence and threaten people's activities.全球化的利弊英语作文篇16People around the world may feel that the climate has been getting steadily warmer and warmer in recent years. A warmer global climate melts the ice caps, raising sea levels. We hope the situation will soon change. Global warming catches and holds our concern, for it affects us and will affect our later generations. We cannot wait any longer. Do it. Do it right. Do it right now.全球化的利弊英语作文篇17Global Warming At present, with the development of economies around the world may feel that the climate is becoming more and more warmer. CO2 makes up about 70% of the greenhouse gases. It is considered to be one of the greatestreasons of global warming. It's very serious, but many people can't recognize that because the only think about themselves. They don't mind the climate becoming warmer. They don't mind the ice melting. They don't mind how many animals become extinct. They don't mind how many coastal cities become flooded . They don't mind…… They are wrong. Global warming can have many strong influences for us. For example: Global warming will make trouble with physiology. People will become more easily ill and even breed new diseases. People will pay more and more money for health care but more and more people die. No amount of money or even the best doctors, wll not be able to save your life. Even if you aren't dying, you will feel sad and alone. So many relatives and friends' death will make you want to kill yourself. Global warming will give the air and ocean huge power. Thus making large or even super typhoons, hurricanes, tsunamis and other disasters. Many houses will be destroyed. Many place will flood. We will be faced with more and more disasters, damning more and more money and life. Rising temperatures will not only create higher sea level, but also will cause droughts. Large-scale areas will become arid and thus food production will be less. We will be without food. People around the world will face food shortages and more and more war will happen for food. If temperatures continue to rise, animals will come out of hibernation early, but will not have the food supply necessary to survive. For example: Insects will eat a lot of forests and crops with no natural enemies. Without forests, global warming will become more and more sercious, creating a vicious cycle. No crops, means no human food. The greatest of global warming is at ice age like in the movie “The Day After Tomorrow”, this is a scenario that take place. So we must do something to avoid thesethings from happening. First, we should use more and more clean energy and less oil and coal. Second, we should go to work by bus or on foot instead of driving. Third, we should plant more trees. The most important point is we should make a habit of saving energy in everyday life.全球化的利弊英语作文篇18The summer melting of the Arctic, more severe hurricanes in the US, drought in China and Africa, wildfires in Australia; these impacts are all signs of an increasingly chaotic climate system that will undermine the economic and development goals of all nations.Time is running out. Dr James Hansen, a leading climatologist from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), recently stated that the world is now in "imminent peril". Dr Qin Dahe from the Chinese Academy of Sciences also stated "Climate change has already brought severe and obvious threats to the economic and social development of China".The window for avoiding that peril is narrow, and closing rapidly, but it is not yet closed. With the right leadership, the world can bring global greenhouse gas emissions under control, set them on a downward trajectory, and avoid the most catastrophic impacts of global warming.China has begun work on a new energy law that places strong emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, demonstrating that greener development is not only possible but desirable. Should the new Energy Law be passed, it would provide guidance for China's energy strategy in its 12th Five Year Plan.As the largest global greenhouse emitters, the United Statesand China have an historic opportunity to show decisive leadership. Commitments from both nations may differ but the urgency of the task facing us means every nation must play their part. There are encouraging signs that the two nations have already started some Ping Pong diplomacy on climate and energy issues in the lead up to this week's meeting.全球化的利弊英语作文篇19With the development of economy, People around the world may feel that the climate has been getting steadily warmer and warmer in recent years.CO2 makes up about 70% of the greenhouse gases, which is considered to be one of the greatest causes of global warming. There are many harmful effects. People suffer a lot from disasters relevant to global warming. It is urgent that immediate and effective actions should be taken right away. First, more trees need to be planted to help improve and beautify the environment. Besides, stricter laws concerning global warming and irresponsible use of fuel resources have to be put into effect and achieved good results. In a word, there is a long way to go before we can take a comfortable world for granted again .Do it. Do it right. Do it right now.全球化的利弊英语作文篇20People around the world may feel that the climate has been getting steadily warmer and warmer in recent years. A few days ago, polar bears are beginning to cut one another's throats, Hierro Island lizards due to climate variation on the verge of extinction, warm winter disrupted flowering, bloom all over Japan cherry blossom in advance; because the warm climate Moscow warm winter, bears suffer not hibernating; France this year suffered a warm winter, birds species were significantly reduced in number. How I Got Smart Steve BrodyA common misconception among youngsters attending school is that their teachers were child prodigies. Who else but a bookworm, with none of the normal kid's tendency to play rather than study, would grow up to be a teacher anyway?I've tried desperately to explain to my students that the image they have of me as an enthusiastic devotee of books and homework during my adolescence was a bit out of focus. On the contrary, I hated compulsory education with a passion. I could never quite accept the notion of having to go to school while the fish were biting. But in my sophomore year, something beautiful and exciting happened. Cupid aimed his arrow and struck me right in the heart. All at once, I enjoyed going to school, if only to gaze at the lovely face in English II.My princess sat near the pencil sharpener, and that year I ground up enough pencils to fuel a campfire. Alas, Debbie was far beyond my wildest dreams. We were separated not only by five rows of desks, but by about 50 I.Q. points. She was the top student in English II, the apple of Mrs. Larrivee's eye.Occasionally, Debbie would catch me staring at her, and she would flash a smile that radiated intelligence and quickened my heartbeat. It was a smile that signaled hope and made me temporarily forget the intellectual gulf that separated us.I schemed desperately to bridge that gulf. And one day, as I was passing the supermarket, an idea came to me. A sign in the window announced that the store was offering the first volume of a set of encyclopedias at the special price of 29 cents. The remaining volumes would cost $2.49 each.I purchased Volume I — Aardvark to Asteroid — and began my venture into the world of knowledge. I would henceforth become a seeker of facts. I would become Chief Brain in English II and sweep my princess off her feet with a surge of erudition. I had it all planned. My first opportunity came one day in the cafeteria line. I looked behind me and there she was."Hi," she said. After a pause, I wet my lips and said, "Know where anchovies come from?"She seemed surprised. "No, I don't."I breathed a sigh of relief. "The anchovy lives in salt water and is rarely found in fresh water." I had to talk fast, so that I could get all the facts in before we reached the cash register. "Fishermen catch anchovies in the Mediterranean Sea and along the Atlantic coast near Spain and Portugal.""How fascinating," said Debbie, shaking her head in disbelief. It was obvious that I had made quite an impression.A few days later, during a fire drill, I casually went up to her and asked, "Ever been to the Aleutian Islands?""Never have," she replied."Might be a nice place to visit, but I certainly wouldn't want to live there," I said."Why not?" said Debbie, playing right into my hands."Well, the climate is forbidding. There are no trees on any ofthe 100 or more islands in the group. The ground is rocky and very little plant life can grow on it.""I don't think I'd even care to visit," she said. The fire drill was over and we began to file into the building, so I had to step it up to get the natives in. "The Aleuts are short and sturdy and have dark skin and black hair. They live on fish, and they trap blue foxes and seals for their valuable fur."Debbie's eyes widened in amazement. One day I was browsing through the library. I spotted Debbie sitting at a table, absorbed in a crossword puzzle. She was frowning, apparently stumped on a word. I leaned over and asked if I could help."Four-letter word for Oriental female servant," Debbie said."Try amah," I said, quick as a flash.Debbie filled in the blanks, then turned to stare at me in amazement. "I don't believe it," she said. "I just don't believe it."And so it went, that glorious, joyous, romantic sophomore year. Debbie seemed to relish our little conversations and hung on my every word. Naturally, the more I read, the more my confidence grew.In the classroom, too, I was gradually making my presence felt. One day, during a discussion of Coleridge's "The Ancient Mariner", we came across the word albatross."Can anyone tell us what an albatross is?" asked Mrs. Larrivee. My hand shot up. "The albatross is a large bird that lives mostly in the ocean regions below the equator, but may be found in the north Pacific as well. The albatross measures as long as four feet and has the greatest wingspread of any bird. It feeds on fish and shellfish. The albatross has an enormous appetite, and when it's full it has trouble getting into the air again."There was a long silence in the room. Mrs. Larrivee couldn't quite believe what she had just heard. I sneaked a look at Debbie and gave her a big wink. She beamed proudly and winked back. What I failed to perceive was that Debbie all this while was going steady with a junior from a neighboring school —a basketball player with a C+ average. The revelation hit me hard, and for a while I felt like forgetting everything I had learned. I had saved enough money to buy Volume II —Asthma to Bullfinch — but was strongly tempted to invest in a basketball instead.I felt not only hurt, but betrayed. Like Agamemnon, but with less drastic consequences, thank God.In time I recovered from my wounds. The next year Debbie moved from the neighborhood and transferred to another school. Soon she became no more than a memory.Although the original incentive was gone, I continued poring over the encyclopedias, as well as an increasing number of other books. Having tasted of the wine of knowledge, I could not now alter my course. For:"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing:Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring."So wrote Alexander Pope, Volume XIV —Paprika to Pterodactyl.New Wordsprodigyn. a person who has unusual and very noticeable abilities, usually at an early age 奇才;天才child prodigyan unusually clever child 神童bookwormn. a person devoted to reading 极爱读书者;书呆子devoteen. a person strongly devoted to sth. or sb. 热爱…者;献身于…的人adolescencen. 青春期* compulsorya. required by law or a rule 义务的;强制的compelvt. oblige or force (sb.) to do sth. 强迫;强求passionn. a strong, deep, often uncontrollable feeling 热情;激情gazevi. look fixedly 注视;凝视princessn. 1. 理想中的女友;心目中追求的女友2.
