Everything else seems blurry (=unclear). Many people who do a lot of work, such as writing, reading and sewing become near-sighted.③People who are far-sighted(远视) suffer from just the opposite problem. They can see things that are far away, but they have difficulty in reading a book unless they hold it at arm’s length. If they want to do much reading, they must get glasses, too.④Other people do not see clearly because their eyes are not exactly the right shape. They have what is called astigmatism (散光). This, too, can be corrected by glasses. Some people’s eyes become cloudy because of cataracts (白内障). Long ago these people often became blind. Now, however, it is possible to operate on the cataracts and remove them.⑤Having two good eyes is important for judging(判断) distances(距离). Each eye sees things from a slightly different angle. To prove this to yourself, look at an object out of one eye; then look at the same object out of your other eye. One of the things he discovered was money made of paper. People in the West did not have such kind of money until the 15th century. However, the Chinese began to use it in the 7th century.Paper was invented by a Chinese man called Cai Lun almost 2,000 years ago. But it was not made in Europe until the year 1 lOO.Four hundred years later, a German discovered that he could make the best paper from trees. After that countries rich in forests, such as Canada, Sweden, America, Finland became the most important ones in paper making.Paper can be used in many ways. The common uses include newspapers, magazines and books. But do you know that paper can be used for keeping warm? In Finland, the farmers wear paper boots to keep their feet warm in the snow. And even houses can be insulaled(使绝缘)from heat or cold with paper. However, we have to understand that paper still comes from trees now. If we keep on wasting so much paper, there will not be any trees left on the earth some day in the near future. Every day people throw away about 2,800 tons of paper in our city. It takes 17 trees to make one ton of paper. This means that we are cutting down nearly 48,000 trees every day. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some American schools have cut music classes to control budgets(预算).For example, Chicago public schools hurt arts education when it fired over 1, 000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That's partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn't tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often. However, learning music is beneficial(有益的)in many ways. When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth K. Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解码)them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music:Einstein played the violin and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.(1)Some schools in the US cut music classes, because ____.A. they were too difficult to learnB. students in the US weren't interested in musicC. the schools wanted to control budgetsD. there weren't enough music teachers in the US (2)In Paragraph 2, what does the underlined word "them" refer to(指代)?A. Students in Chicago.B. Public schools.C. Parents in Chicago.D. Fired teachers.(3)How many scientists who are good at playing music are mentioned in this passage? A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.(4)What's the writer's opinion according to this passage?A. Music is as simple as it looks.B. Music classes should be cut in some schools.C. Music is a big part of our lives.D. Music isn't a very important life skill for us.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)B(4)C【解析】【分析】本文介绍了很多地区削减了音乐课以控制预算,这是不合适的,因为音乐在许多方面都是有益的。

ASome people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true. Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here are some suggestions for you to bridge generation gap(代沟).Don't argue with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them You can't express(表达)yourself well if you are angry. Go to some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don't think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree(有分歧) on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a car. They argued over it, but finally they came to a compromise. Michael bought the car, but only drove it on certain days.Of course your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect (尊敬) to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.Talk about your values. Does it look like anything?Abstract art became popular in the early 20th century. Artists did not want to paint, draw, or sculpt things exactly like they looked. They didn't want their art to be realistic(现实的). They were more interested in basic shapes and colours.Picasso is probably the most famous of these artists. He painted and drew in many, many styles. Sometimes he used a lot of blue colours (his "blue period"). Later, he used more red and pink colours (his "rose period"). Many of his other paintings are called "cubist (立体派的)" because they are made of painted squares. After a long time, Picasso's paintings became more and more abstract. He painted people and things using strange shapes. His work was so strange that many of his workmates didn't understand it.Kandinsky, another famous artist, used lines, shapes, and patterns to paint his subjects. His paintings also used strong colours to express feelings. Other artists like the surrealists (超现实主义画家),were interested in subconsciousness (潜意识). Painters like Breton and Magritte used many symbols in their work. The meaning or subject of their work wasn't always clear. Dali, another surrealist artist, painted pictures that looked like dreams. There are still many abstract artists around the world. That's the way many artists prefer. They want each person to look at art and find their own meaning in it.(1)Which would be most like abstract art?A. A painting of a house.B. A sculpture of a car.C. 中考英语阅读理解模拟试题一一、有人为了要扩张耕地和工地面积,试图把湿地变成农田,变成建筑,可是这是决不行旳!由于湿地对我们人类来说是十分重要旳。
There are many wetlands(湿地) in China and some of them have become the world ‘s important wetlands. The Chinese Yellow Sea Wetlands are among them. They are in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. They are home for many different kinds of birds and animals. The world’s largest Milu Deer Nature Reserve(自然保护区) is in them. More than 700 milu deer live freely there. There are not many red-crowned cranes in the world, but every winter you can see some in the Red-crowned Cranes Nature Reserve in the Yellow Sea Wetlands. The temperature in the wetlands is usually neither too high nor too low. There is a lot of rain and sunshine, too. They are really good places for wildlife(野生生物)。
Offering food and home for some special kinds of animals and birds is not the only reason why we need to protect wetlands. Wetlands are important because they also prevent flood. But some people want to change the wetlands to make more space for farms and buildings. This means there will be less and less space for wildlife.Luckily, more and more people are beginning to realize the important of wetlands and wildlife. Every year, on February 2nd, many activities are held to tell people more about wetlands.根据以上短文内容,然后从每题所给旳四个选项中选择最佳选项。

We’ve talked about snails (蜗牛) and their slow move. But much of the time snails don’t move at all. They are in their shells (壳) —sleeping.
Hot sun will dry out a snail’s body. So at the least sign of hot sun, a snail draws its body into his shell. A snail will die in a heavy rain. So when it rains, a snail does the same thing, too. A snail can sleep for as long as it needs to. It spends all the winter months in its shell, asleep.
In the spring the snail wakes up. Its body, about three inches long, comes out from the shell. When hungry, the snail looks for food. Its eyes, at the end of the top feelers (触角), are very weak. But its sense (感觉) of smell is very strong. It helps the snail to find food and the new greens.
A snail’s mouth i s no bigger than the point of a pin (大头针). Yet it has 256,000 teeth! The teeth are very small, and you can’t see them. If you put a snail in a hard paper box, it will eat its way out! And if a snail wears out its teeth, it will grow new ones.
1. A snail _________.
A. moves more slowly at night
B. has thousands of feet
C. doesn’t move at all
D. sleeps much of the time
2. In the sentence “A snail draws its body into its shell”, the word “draw” means _____.
A. to make with a pencil
B. to push
C. to pull
D. to move away
3. From the story, we know _________.
A. a snail’s shell is very thin
B. a snail can’t see well
C. a snail’s nose is quite short
D. a snail’s body changes in different seasons
4. A snail goes to sleep when _____.
A. it feels hungry
B. it is put into a paper box
C. spring is coming
D. it rains heavily
5. Which of the following is wrong?
A. In winter the snail doesn’t eat or move.
B.A snail doesn’t like living under the sun.
C. The snail’s teeth can’t be worn out.
D. The snail’s nose helps to find food.
1. D。
根据开头的“But much of the time snails don’t move at all. They are in their shells ----sleeping.”这句话,显然只有D是正确答案。
2. C。
本题属熟词新义。
由“Hot sun will dry out a snail’s body. So at the least sign of hot sun, a snail draws its body into his shell.”一句的意思,尤其是要仔细考虑关键词“into”对猜测词义的辅助作用,可知蜗牛一旦碰到炙热的太阳,就会把身体蜷缩进壳里。
3. B。
答案即是“Its eyes, at the end of the top feelers are very weak.”这句话。
4. D。
关键要理解好“So when it rains, a snail does the same thing, too.”这句话中的“the same thing”的意思。
事实上,由“In the spring the snail wakes up. … comes out from the shell.”和“…in a hard paper box, it will eat its way out!”是很容易排除B、C和A的。
5. C。
根据短文最后一句话“And if a snail wears out its teeth, it will grow new ones.”,可以判断C项是明显的错误。
