如:“Sit down,please”、“Good morning,Han mei mei”、“How are you?”

TASK 11.PersonThe reasons you choose this person:-tolerant of others-good values-educatedIn my family, my mother has influenced me greatly because she has so many good qualities. She is very well educated and keeps an open mind. Her thinking is very modern. She is able to understand people from different generations. In addition, she is a good listener. This makes her tolerant of other people’s opinions. Her personal values set a good example for me to follow in my own life. The way she treats people and thinks makes me want to become the best person I can be. This is why I think my mother has influenced me the most in my life.2.CultureThe rudest behavior: ignoring peopleThe reason you chose the behavior-hurts people’s feelings-anti-social behavior-makes others uncomfortableThe rudest thing a person can do in our culture is to ignore someone. It cut off all communication. Ignoring someone shows selfishness and a lack of respect to others. If I am trying to catch someone’s attention in a meeting to discuss something or in a store fro assistance, it can be very embarr assing to be ignored. It can hurt people’s feelings and make people lose self-confidence. Furthermore, it makes anyone witnessing this rude behavior uncomfortable. Overall, the rudest thing you can do is to ignore some one as it hurts everyone involved.3.EventThe event: my graduationThe reason you chose the event-special ceremony-recognized for my hard work-full of all my friends and familyMy high school graduation is the most memorable event in my life because it was such a special day. During our graduation we were each called up one at a time to the stage. We each received our diploma and everyone applauded our hard work. I even received an award for being the best math student. There was a get-together afterwards which was attended by all my friends and family. It was a memorable event because on this day I ended one part of my life and embarked on the beginning of my future.4.PetThe animal: giraffeThe reasons you chose the animal:-majestic animal-long tongue and powerful lips-awkward and goofyIf I could have a pet, I would have a giraffe. It is the most majestic animal in the world. It is tall and sleek. It bends down gracefully to pick leaves from trees using its long tongue and powerful lips. Its fur coat is the most beautiful found in the desert – a yellow background with large brown circles placed here and there. Despite its grace horns on its head and a somewhat goofy looking smile. To me the giraffe is a paradoxical animal – clumsily and awkwardly beautiful and graceful. and filmThe program: SeinfeldThe reasons you chose the program:-funny-mix of characters-everyday situationsI like to watch the TV program Seinfeld because it is a funny show about ordinary people like my friends and me. None of the characters on the show are perfect people. Each one takes a turn getting into some trouble on screen. Sometimes they help each other out while other times they justmake each feel silly for their mistakes. My friends and I try to see every episode. In fact, we often talk about the most recent episode when we see each other. I can really identify with the show because the characters are so similar to my friends.6. MusicThe type of music: rock musicThe reasons you chose the music-like beat-sound of a generation-music for a better life and a better societyI like all kinds of music but if I had to choose one type of music it would be rock. It was the lively beat of change for a whole society. Moreover, one of the leaders of this change was Jimi Hendrix. When I listen to his masterful electric guitar style, I can hear the energy of his generation. The music has a soul and an appealing sound. It has inspired many people to work for a better life for themselves and for a better society around them. Rock music has soul and has stood the rest of time.7.BookThe book: the Catcher in the Rye by J. D. SalingerThe reasons you chose the book:-identified with the character-challenges of my age group-interesting point of viewWhen I read The Catcher in the Rye, By J. D. Salinger, it was already an old book, but I liked it because I identified with Holden Caulfield, the young man who was the main character. He was not always correct in his judgments about the way life was, although he had strong opinions. I liked to read about how he felt and what he understood. His constant wry observations about what he encounters, from teachers to phonies, capture the essence of the eternal teenage experience of alienation. In many ways, we still have the same challenges in life since the times of The Catcher in the Rye.8.SubjectThe subject: mathThe reasons you chose the subject-difficult to understand-not relevant to my life-no time to catch upMy worst subject in school was mathematics. I didn’t understand it as well as other subjects. Furthermore, it was hard for me to see the relevant of math in my life. I just never saw the point of studying so many formulas and equations that seem so abstract. I think I could have been good in math if my teacher were to have taken more time to explain it to me. Maybe I needed a different approach to math. In as much as I was weaker in math,I was stronger in art, literature and even biology so there was balance in my subjects and in my marks.9.sportThe sport: golfThe reasons you chose the sports:-good exercise-have fun and relax-play to winI recently took up golf because I though it might be a sport that would be fun and useful. So far, I have discovered that golf requires a lot of time and a lot of walking. This, however, adds to the fun and relaxation of a round of golf. Golf has also taught me to concentrate and to take many factors into account, such as wind and slope. Although I like to play to win, even if I don’t beat my partner, I know I have played well if I have improved my own score. I think by choosing golf I have found a good way to do business in the future as well as have fun learning it now.10.giftThe gift: music boxThe reasons you chose the gift:-sentimental-thoughtful-usefulMy favorite gift is a music box. It has a great amount of sentimental value. It was given to me as a gift for my first dance recital with my ballet class. I was only seven years old and my family planned a dinner celebration. At the table, my father presented me with a little jewelry box. When I opened it, music played and a small plastic pink ballerina burned in a mirror. My family knew how much I loved ballet and understood my dream of becoming a ballet dancer. I didn’t become a ballet dance, but I still use my favorite g ift because it reminds me of my parent’s thoughtfulness.11.MottoThe motto: honesty is the best policyThe reasons you chose the motto:-personal philosophy-easier to live with-overall moral goodMy motto is “honesty is the best policy” because life is easier when we tell the truth. I have felt this way ever since I read the story of Pinocchio, the little marionette whose wooden nose grew whenever he told a lie. It just seems better to deal with the truth. As a result, there are no surprises or stories that don’t match up. It also helps people treat themselves with more self-respect and in turn, others will treat them in a more dignified manner. Lying to others is lying to oneself. If everyone were honest, we would all fellbetter in our personal lives and in dealing at work.12.CriticismThe criticism: how I lookedThe reasons you chose this:-lazy, careless in my attitude-attracting undesirable people-but appearance did not mean everythingWhen I was in school, I was criticized because of how I looked. I had long hair of many colors – often a mix of black, blond and blue. My clothes were big and baggy; nobody saw my shoes because my pants were so long and dragged on the ground. I felt comfortable in this way. It was a way of expressing my feelings about the world around me. However, my family didn’t agree with this. They said it made me look lazy and careless in my attitude. People thought I didn’t care about my parents either. The y were worried about me and about my appearance attracting undesirable people.I know they were just trying to show their love to me. I was the top student in my class, so to me, looks and appearance didn’t mean everything.13.Embarrassing MomentThe moment: sending an email by mistakeThe reasons you chose this moment-careless moment-revealed personal information-lost people’s trustMy most embarrassing moment came when I recently sent an email careless to the wrong person. A friend revealed personal information to me in an email and asked for my advice. At first, I concentrated on answering him, but then the phone rang and I mistakenly sent it off on another friend in my address book. I sent off a friend’s confession about how he had cheated on his girlfriend, not once, but twice in the same day. The friend who received it happed to be a good friend of the guy’s girlfriend. In this one embarrassing moment I careless revealed private details and might have lost the trust of both friends. I also revealed my stupidity and lack of care –personally very embarrassing.14.GameThe game: skippingThe reasons you chose the game:-nostalgia-group singing-regular recess activityIn the schoolyard I liked skipping as a child because everyone could be included in the same game at the same time. The older girls at school taught us all the songs. Every time we had recess we would all run out to the yard and take turns turning the rope and all the other girls would sing andjump in and out together. We were together singing songs and exercising; it was a lot of fun. As we grew up and got to be the older girls, we would teach the songs we learned. Skipping was a schoolyard activity that we could all enjoy together and pass on to younger students.15. ColorThe reasons you chose the color:-happy color-looks good on me-goes with all my outfitsIn my closet I have clothes of many colors but my favorite color is pink. Pink strikes me as such a happy color. For this reason I feel that I always look good and I feel good when I wear pink. When it is rainy in the winter, I like to wear my pink silk and wool sweater. It makes me feel so warm inside. Pink appears in separate pieces of clothing as well as in some of my accessories such as scarves, hairpins and belts. Gradually I have added pieces to my collection of clothes but they all go together with each other and with the color pink. My wardrobe is coordinated around a color that both flatters me and makes me feel good.16.IngredientThe ingredient: ground meatThe reasons you chose the ingredient-cheap and easy to buy-suit a lot of recipes-stores wellThe most useful ingredient in my fridge for cooking at home is ground meat because it is inexpensive and suitable for many recipes. It used to be called hamburger meat and was usually beef. Now, it is sold all over as ground turkey, veal, chicken or pork as well as beef. I use it to make my favorite, meatball. Sometimes I use ground meat to make a meat sauce for pasta and then there are meals when I stir fry it into vegetables and put it all on a bed of rice. I even use it in soups. It can be fried, grilled and baked in hundreds of different recipes. Meatloaf is just one of the dishes I can prepare ahead of time with ground meat to have ready for company or when I am busy. Ground meat is the most useful ingredient because it doesn’t cost a lot and cook easily for freshly made meals or to store in freezer for later use.17.HobbyThe hobby: model airplane buildingThe reasons you chose the hobby:-like to work alone and figure out the parts-learn about engineering-touch adventure and historyI like building model airplanes as my hobby because it gives me a change of pace from my busy schedule. I have been building model airplanes since I was 10, when my father gave me one as my birthday present. It takes time and concentration to match and glue the small parts and although some people don’t have the patience to do this, I find it very relaxing. Each model teaches me about design and engineering. Sometimes I go to a club where there are others who share my interests. This hobby lets me touch a bit of history and I can imagine the adventure of the original flyers.。

(1)Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, Friends are God's way of taking care of us. But how do you find real friendship and keep it? First, you should choose a friend, What makes a good friend? It is not money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives. But things cannot always go smoothly. Even the best of friends have fights. What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When you are alone, with your friend, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn't want to talk, you could write a letter. There are three steps to being friends again Tell him or her how you are feeling; say what your friend has done wrong; and explain why you acted as you did. Remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life.(2)No air means death. Although we can't see it, there is air around us. Air is everywhere and it gives life to every living thing. Bad air makes people ill. We must have fresh air to keep us in good health. In the city, there are a great many people and there are too many cars on the road. The exhaust fumes the cars give out are full of poison. Every day we breathe them in and out. This makes us feel sick. Besides cars, there are many factories, too. From the chimneys of these factories we get smoke, usually in a black or grey color. This kind of smoke, when it is mixed with air, is dangerous to our health. So in order to keep ourselves healthy we have to go out to the countryside to breathe fresher air. Or we can go up hills to get fresher air.(3)All around the world, people drink tea. But tea does not mean the same thing to everyone. In different countries people have very different ideas about drinking tea. In China people like to have tea together with their friends. They may drink tea at any time of the day. They put only tea leaves in their cups. They prefer the tea with nothing else in it. Tea is also important in Japan. It is very popular there. People drink tea every day. But they have it in a way different from that in China. In the USA people drink tea at breakfast or after meals. They usually use tea bags to make their tea. Making tea with tea bags is faster and easier than making it with leaves in teapots.(4)We have a radio station in our school. It is great because it is run by the students for the school. It started two years ago. And I have been a student member of the radio station for two years. Every morning we Jell the students about the weather and latest news, pits some special messages that the teachers want us to mention. During exam time we have a special program that tells students the things they should or shouldn't do in preparation. At the end of the school year, many students who are going to graduate use our station to send messages to their close friends and teachers. When parents come to visit the school and talk to the teachers in the evening, we always play songs sung by the students, and we also report special events to the parents, such as outings and school plays.(5)New York, London, Paris and some other cities are exciting places to live. There are many interesting things to see and to do. You can go to different kinds of museums, plays and films. You can also buy things from all over the world. But there are serious problems in big cities, too. It is expensive to live there, and there are too many people in some places in big cities. Every year many people move to the cities to find work, study at good schools and receive good medical care. But sometimes these people can't find work or good places to live. Also it is hard to keep big cities safe and clean. Some people enjoy living in big cities, others do not. Before people move to a big city, they should think about the problems they might encounter there.。

Instead of saying "I don't have time" try saying "it's not a priority" and see how that feels. Often that's a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don't want to. But other things are harder.
"I'm not going to edit your resume, sweetie, because it's not a priority."“亲爱的,我不会去帮你改简历的,因为这不是什么要紧的事情。
”"I don't go to the doctor because my health is not a priority."“
”If these phrases don't sit well, that's the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don't like how we're spending an hour, we can choose differently.

1.PersonThe reasons you choose this person:-tolerant of others-good values-educatedIn my family, my mother has influenced me greatly because she has so many good qualities. She is very well educated and keeps an open mind. Her thinking is very modern. She is able to understand people from different generations. In addition, she is a go od listener. If I am trying to catch someone’s attention in a meeting to discuss something or in a store fro assistance, it can be very embarrassing to be ignored. It can hurt people’s feelings and make people loseself-confidence. Sometimes they help each other out while other times they just make each feel silly for their mistakes. My friends and I try to see every episode. In fact, we often talk about the most recent episode when we see each other. I can really identify with the show because the characters are so similar to my friends. The type of music: rock musicThe reasons you chose the music-like beat-sound of a generation-music for a better life and a better societyI like all kinds of music but if I had to choose one type of music it would be rock. In as much as I was weaker in math, I was stronger in art, literature and even biology so there was balance in my subjects and in my marks.9.sportThe sport: golfThe reasons you chose the sports:-good exercise-have fun and relax-play to winI recently took up golf because I though it might be a sport that would be fun and useful. So far, I have discovered that golf requires a lot of time and a lot of walking. This, however, adds to the fun and relaxation of a round of golf. Golf has also taught me to concentrate and to take many factors into account, such as wind and slope. Although I like to play to win, even if I don’t beat my partner, I know I have played well if I have improved my o wn score. I didn’t become a ballet dance, but I st ill use my favorite gift because it reminds me of my parent’s thoughtfulness. The motto: honesty is the best policyThe reasons you chose the motto:-personal philosophy-easier to live with-overall moral goodMy motto is “honesty is the best policy” because life is easier when we tell the truth. I have felt this way ever since I rea d the story of Pinocchio, the little marionette whose wooden nose grew whenever he told a lie. It just seems better to deal with the truth. As a result, there are no surprises or stories that don’t match up. It also helps people treat themselves with mor eself-respect and in turn, others will treat them in a more dignified manner. Lying to others is lying to oneself. If everyone were honest, we would all fell better in our personal lives and in dealing at work.12.CriticismThe criticism: how I lookedThe reasons you chose this:-lazy, careless in my attitude-attracting undesirable people-but appearance did not mean everythingWhen I was in school, I was criticized because of how I looked. They were worried about me and about my appearance attracting undesirable people. I know they were just t rying to show their love to me. I was the top student in my class, so to me, looks and appearance didn’t mean everything. 13.Embarrassing MomentThe moment: sending an email by mistakeThe reasons you chose this moment-careless moment-revealed personal information-lost people’s trustMy most embarrassing moment came when I recently sent an email careless to the wrong person. I also revealed my stupidity and lack of care – personally very embarrassing.14.GameThe game: skippingThe reasons you chose the game:-nostalgia-group singing-regular recess activityIn the schoolyard I liked skipping as a child because everyone could be included in the same game at the same time. The older girls at school taught us all the songs. Every time we had recess we would all run out to the yard and take turns turning the rope and all the other girls would sing and jump in and out together. My wardrobe is coordinated around a color that both flatters me and makes16.IngredientThe ingredient: ground meatThe reasons you chose the ingredient-cheap and easy to buy-suit a lot of recipes-stores wellThe most useful ingredient in my fridge for cooking at home is ground meat because it is inexpensive and suitable for many recipes. It used to be called hamburger meat and was usually beef. Now, it is sold all over as ground turkey, veal, chicken orpork as well as beef. Ground meat is the most useful ingredient because it doesn’t cost a lotand cook easily for freshly made meals or to store in freezer for later use.17.HobbyThe hobby: model airplane buildingThe reasons you chose the hobby:-like to work alone and figure out the parts-learn about engineering-touch adventure and historyI like building model airplanes as my hobby because it gives me a change of pace from my busy schedule. I have been building model airplanes since I was 10, when my father gave me one as my birthday present. It takes time and concentrationto match a nd glue the small parts and although some people don’t have the patience to do this, I find it very relaxing. Each model teaches me about design and engineering. Sometimes I go to a club where there are others who share my interests. This hobby lets me touch a bit of history and I can imagine the adventure of the original flyers.TASK 2Car or VacationChoice A: vacation-in need of a break- a treat-experience of a lifetimeChoice B: car-saves time-convenient-long lastingTopic sentence-My choice of prize would be the car over the vacation because it is more practical.Supporting sentences- A car would make my life easier.- A car could help manage the most difficult task.-Having a car would also make a different in our choice of leisure activities.Closing statement (optional)- A car would be the smartest choice because it is so useful and it would last much longer than a holiday. My choice of prize would be the car over the vacation because it is more practical. Although I’m in need of a break now the car’s benefits far outweigh those of the holiday. A car would make my life easier immediately. It would lessen the stress of arriving at appointments on time and I could run errands with less trouble. Moreover, I could manage the single most difficult task of the week with greater efficiency and less strain grocery shopping. Normally, shopping and transporting the family’s weekly grocery needs a great deal of organization. It often means taking a taxi. Having a car would mean more choice in the locations and times we shop. It would also make a difference in our choice of leisure activities. We could drive to far away parks and spend less time to get to movies, school events or family visit. A car would be the smartest choice because it is so useful and it would last much longer that a holiday.Cash or giftChoice A: cash-always useful-easy to give-no risk (size, color, taste)Choice B: gift-surprise-personal-memorableTopic sentence:-Normally I enjoy receiving a gift, but as a student I much prefer getting cash.Supporting sentence:-Cash is the most useful present my parents can give me.-My parents don’t have to spend time shopping or wrapping the gift.-There is no risk of the gift being the wrong size or color.Closing statement (optional)-I prefer receiving a cash gift that can be sued to make a memorable purchase at just the right time with far fewerrisks.Normally I enjoy receiving a gift, but as a student I much prefer getting cash. It is true that opening a gift and being surprisedis really fun. However, cash is now the most useful present my parent can give me. It saves them time as well. They don’t have to spend time shopping or wrapping the gift. There are no trips to the post office and nothing gets damaged duringshipping. Furthermore, there is no risk of the gift being the wrong size or color. Most of all, I appreciate that my parents trustme to spend the money wisely on my own taste on things I feel I need. In the end, I prefer receiving a cash gift that can be sued to make a memorable purchase at just the right time with far fewer risks.Alone or GroupChoice A: alone-set own schedule-focus on priorities-concentrationChoice B: group-share work-motivation-companyTopic sentence-I have learned that I definitely prefer to study alone because I am more successful this way.Supporting sentence-I like to set a schedule according to what I have to study.-I focus my weaker areas; they might not be the ones a study group would choose.-Organizing my study time allows me to control the pace an atmosphere.Closing sentence (optional)-Without other people around me I can concentrate fully on the work and take in the material more efficiently.I have leaned that I definitely prefer to study alone because I am more successful this way. The method I like to follow is toset a schedule for myself according to what I must study. If I divide it into units I can manage the workload better. Mostly, I focus on my weaker areas. There are my priority areas but they might not be the ones a study group chooses to work on.While a study group sounds like it might be fun and a way to share the work, my study time is more effective when I plan it alone. Organizing my own study time allows me to control the pace as well as the atmosphere of my study sessions. Without other people around me I can concentrate fully on the work and take in the material more efficiently. In person or By letterChoice A: in person-take action instantly-get quicker response-express your disappointmentChoice B: by letter-document the details-clam down-ask for actionTopic sentence- Despite the temptation to complain immediately, I prefer to keep a cool head and wait to write a letter.Supporting sentence- A letter lets me document the incident.-The purpose of a letter is to file a formal record or complaint.-I need to find the person in authority.-By taking my time and writing a proper letter of complaint I can express my anger and let the store do something to make me feel better about my purchase.Despite the temptation to complain immediately, I prefer to keep a cool head and wait to write a letter.Complainingimmediately does give some emotional satisfaction and the listener can see the very real upset I am feeling, but it might missthe point of complaining. A letter lets me document the incident and is less likely to end in hard feelings and yelling atsomeone. After all, the purpose of the letter is to file a formal record or complaint that must be dealt with. Perhaps the service person needs more training. furthermore, I need to find the person in authority that can act on my complaint. The manager might choose to apologize or to offer me a discount to make good on the store’s policy of good service to customers. Bytaking my time and writing a proper letter of complaint I can express my anger and let the store do something to make me feel better about my purchase.

At the beginning there are the construction jobs and then the store staff itself must be hired. The shelves will be lined with many more products giving local shoppers more choices and possibly better prices. For a while the new store will be a great place to browse or go shopping with friends. All that traffic, however, will cause noise and pollution in the neighborhood. Eventually, the newly hired staff will realize that the company controls their working conditions and wages. If they are unhappy with the new store management, they may not have other choices. Often when a big store comes to town, it put s other smaller companies out of business. The variety and low cost products of a big new store cut out other competitors, turn ing what was a big short-term advantage for a community into a serious disadvantage.13.Memorable event:My high school graduation is the most memorable event in my life because it was such a special day.During the graduation, we were each called up one at a time to the stage. We each received our diploma and everyone applauded our hard work. I even received an award for being the best math student. There was a get-together afterwards which was attended by all my friends and family. It was a memorable event because on this day I ended one part of my life and embark ed on the beginning of my future.14.Embarrassing momentMy most embarrassing moment came when I recently sent an email carelessly to the wrong person.A friend reveal ed personal information to me in an email and asked for my advice. At first, I concentrated on answering him, but then the phone rang and I mistakenly sent it off to another friend in my address book. I sent off a friend’s confession about how he had cheated on his girlfriend, not once, but twice in the same day. The friend who received it happened to be a good friend of the guy’s girlfriend. In this one embarrassing moment I carelessly revealed private details and might have lost the trust of both friends. I also revealed my stupidity and lack of care----- personally very embarrassing.15.Culture:The rudest thing a person can do in our culture is to ignore someone. It cuts off all communication. Ignoring someone shows selfishness and lack of respect to others. If I’m trying to catch someone’s attention in a meeting to discuss something or in a store for assistance, it can be very embarrasing to be ignored. It can hurt people’s feelings and make people lose self-confidence. Furthermore, it makes anyone witness ing this rude behavior uncomfortable. Overall, the rudest thing you can do is to ignore someone as it hurts everyone involved.TASK 2Preference1.Apartment or dormI prefer to live in an apartment rather than a dormitory, so that I enjoy all the freedoms that university students look forward to when they move out of their parents’ homes.Apartment life means that I have a real home in a community. This gives me a break from the noise and rush of university life. When I come home from my classes, I can sleep, watch TV or study at any time I want. It is easy to entertain my friends because I have my own kitchen and can cook my favorite foods and I can stock my fridge with snacks I need to help me study. On the other hand, students living on campus in a dormitory don’t have to worry about cooking, paying rent or dealing with a landlord. The gym and library are just a little walk away.Even though dormitory living is fun and convenient, I prefer the privacy and quiet in my own apartment.2.Gift or cashNormally I enjoy receiving a gift, but as a student I much prefer getting cash.It is true that opening a gift and being surprised is really fun. However, cash is now the most useful present my parents can give me. It saves them time as well. They don’t have to spend time shopping or wrapping the gift. There are no trips to the post office and nothing gets damaged during shipping.Furthermore, there is no risk of the gift being the wrong size or color. Most of all, I appreciate that my parents trust me to spend the money wisely on my own taste on things I feel I need.In the end, I prefer receiving a cash gift that can be used to make a memorable purchase at just the right time with far fewer risks.3. Study alone or in a groupI have learned that I definitely prefer to study alone because I am more successful this way.The method I like to follow is to set a schedule for myself according to what I must study. If I divide it into units I can manage the workload better. Mostly, I focus on my weaker areas. These are my priority areas but they might not be the ones a study group chooses to work on. While a study group sounds like it might be fun and a way to share the work, my study time is more effective when I plan it alone. Organizing my own study time allows me to control the pace as well as the atmosphere of my study sessions. Without other people around me I can concentrate fully on the work and take in the material more efficiently.4.Indoors or outdoorsWhen I have leisure time, I look forward to spending it outdoors.Breathing fresh air and enjoying the natural light of sunshine are a nice break from the closed-in (封闭的)atmosphere of my office.Once outside in a healthy environment, my choice of activities is limitless. Mostly I enjoy walks with friends. We like to explore new parts of the city. Sometimes we head out of town and try a new hiking trail in the woods. The outdoors is a great place to meet other like-minded (志趣相投的) people who are interested in fitness. Recently, I met someone on a walking trail. During our walk we found out we are both signed up for golf lessons at the local club. In addition,he is interested in joining me and my friends in forming a volleyball team. The outdoors offers a great opportunity to spend free time alone or with friends.5.New customs or oldI prefer to follow the customs of the new country I am living in.Having a positive start is important and will affect how I feel about my new life and the friends I will make.Local customs will help me adapt to my new surroundings more quickly. It makes my daily life easier if I know how to greet people, what the expected dress is and even how closely they like to stand to each other when talking.Learning how things are done makes it easier for my new neighbors to accept me. We all get on better when we share common rules and customs of the country. There are fewermisunderstandings and less stress. Moreover, it helps me fit in faster so that my energy is on my work and studies.I think it’s wise to follow the customs of the new country until you are comfortable enough to share some of your own foods, festivals and customs.6.Learn a new language in your own country OR in the country where that language isspoken.I personally prefer to learn a new language in the country where it is spoken. At first glance it is cheaper to study at home. You don’t have to pay for the trip, foreign school costs, housing, food or transportation. This is quite an expense to consider. Additionally, you can schedule classes more conveniently at home. You are likely to be taught by a teacher who is more patient with your language challenges. The expense, however, is money well spent if you consider the advantages of acquiring a language in its natural environment. As a result of immersion(沉浸) you must struggle every day in the new language. After a while, it becomes much more fun and less foreign. You forget your fear, especially of speaking, in part because you have no choice. Once forced to try harder, your language skills improve faster and in the bargain of learning a new language, you also pick up an understanding of its culture.7.Domestic news or international newsI prefer to pay more attention to international rather than national news. Since I am an engineer at the local water company, I am already kept informed about news that affects me. I receive company bulletin s and my coworkers and I discuss general news at lunch. I feel I have to work harder to keep abreast of world news. There is a phrase I hear often, “think globally and act locally.”(思维全球化,行为本地化。
