二．情态动词
1. 本义
肯定 含义 否定 含义
can (1)表示能力, 意为“能、会”；
(2)表示请求或允许，多用于口语中，意为“可以、能”。 can’t “不能”
may (1)表示请求或允许，此时与 can 同义；
(2)表示不太可能的猜测，意为“可能”。 may not “不能”
must (1)表示命令，意为“必须”；
(2)表示非常肯定的猜测，意为“一定”。 mustn’t “禁止，不许”
2. 问答
①Can…? 肯定回答：Yes, … can.
否定回答：No, … can’t.
②May…? 肯定回答：Yes, … can/may.
否定回答：No, … can’t/may not/mustn’t.
③Must…? 肯定回答：Yes, … must.
否定回答：No, … needn’t/don’t have to.
