Teaching procedures

Step 1 Warming up & Revision

1. Greet the class.

2. Ask and answer.

What day is it today? It’s …

Which season is it?

What can you do in autumn?

How many seasons are there in a year?

Which season do you like best? Why?

Step 2 Presentation & Practice

1. Ask some Ss to answer the question Which season do you like

best? Then play a guessing game, ask some Ss to guess what is

my favourite season. At last tell the Ss I like winter best

because of the winter vacation. Then lead out the question

When is the winter vacation? It’s in winter. It’s in January and

2 February. Then teach the words January and February. Practice

the words with High and Low Voice, Chain game and Little cop

game.

2. Practice the key sentence When is the winter vacation? Guide

the Ss to say It’s in January and February. Board the sentence

and practice it.

3. Lead out the new words of months March, April, May and June

according to the pictures. Read the words together.

4. Review the months from January to June with the phonics. Ask

the Ss to read and spell the words.

5. Show the school calendar to practice the words and the key

sentences. (Ask and answer with When is …? It’s in …)

6. Play the Read Quickly game and practice six words of this part.

Step 3 Consolidation & Extension

1. Practice the words in the key sentence. Have the Ss say the

sentences When is …? It’s in …. fluently.

2. Read and say. Ask the Ss to read the messages on Page 25 and

tick or cross. At last correct the names of the months.

Step 4 Summary & Homework

1. Have a summary.

A. Practice the sentence patterns When is …? It’s in …

B. Present the key words and sentences and review them again.

2. Do homework.

A. Talk about your school calendar with your friends.

B. Introduce the months and the holidays to their parents at

home.
