They can learn to read each other’s body languages, suggesting that the two may have more in common than was expected.Once familiar with each other’s body language, cats and dogs can play together, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa. The importance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets—to people who don’t get along well, including neighbors, colleagues at work, and even countries. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance.4.The underlined word swimmingly in Paragraph1is closest in meaning to________. Scientists have reason to believe that trees do communicate with each other. Not long ago, researchers learned some surprising things. First a willow tree attacked in the woods by caterpillars (毛虫) changed the chemistry of its leaves and made them taste so terrible that they got tired of the leaves and stopped eating them. Then even more astonishing, the tree sent out a special smell---a signal (信号) causing its neighbors to change the chemistry of their own leaves and make them less tasty.Communication, of course, doesn’t need to be in words. We can talk to each other by smiling, raising our shoulders and moving our hands. We know that birds and animals use a whole vocabulary of songs, sounds, and movements. Bees dance their signals, flying in certain patterns that tell other bees where to find nectar (花蜜) for honey. So why shouldn’t trees have ways of sending message?5. It can be concluded from the passage that caterpillars do not feed on leaves that ______.A. are lying on the groundB. have an unpleasant tasteC. bees don’t likeD. have an unfamiliar shape6. The willow tree described in the passage protected itself by ______.A. growing more branchesB. communicating with birds and beesC. changing its leaf chemistryD. shaking caterpillars off7. According to this passage, bees communicate by ______.A. making special movementB. touching one anotherC. smelling one anotherD. making unusual soundCWe use passwords(密码)to keep our personal information secret and safe, but some passwords we use may not be as reliable as we think.Splash Data, a computer security company, recently released a list of the 25 worst passwords of 2011.This list is based on the research of hackers’ files containing stolen passwords. According to the list, “password” is the worst and most common password. Many others on the list are numbers in order either forward (for example,1234) or backward. Letters on the keyboard in order, such as “qwerty” are also ccommon, as well as some first names and animals. “Hackers can easily break into many accounts(账户) just by trying common passwords again and again, ” said Morgan Slain, CEO of Splash Data. How can you make a strong password? It should be eight characters or more, with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols. One way to create a long and easy-to-remember password is to separate short words with spaces or numbers. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in India Phillip Island is a small island and nature reserve off the coast of South Australia, about 140 km from Melbourne. On the island you can see koalas, kangaroos and the main attraction, the Penguin Parade (归巢)on Summerland Beach. As dusk was approaching, we made our way down to the beach, as did everyone else. On the beach was a stone grandstand, rather cold on the behind, so bring a coat or blanket to sit on. As it got darker, people talked less, keeping an eye out on the beach to see the arrival of that first penguin. Suddenly there was movement at the edge of the surf and all heads turned as one. There, standing by the edge of the water was the smallest penguin we had ever seen. He looked left, then right, as if he was considering crossing a busy road and then he ran quickly across to the sand dunes and the penguin holes. He must have been the scout(侦查员), because after him, there came groups of penguins, some consisted of two or three penguins, and some had about ten or fifteen, but they all made the same mad dash across the sand into the holes, as if they couldn't get there fast enough. The groups started to lessen and finally no more penguins emerged from the sea. We sat on the grandstand for a while, not talking, just feeling awed(敬畏的) at what we'd just seen. Neither of us had ever seen penguins in the wild before, only in zoos and it was an amazing feeling. You could see the penguins here every evening and morning, but they weren't in cages or in small pools. The sea was their playground and it is a sight we would definitely recommend to anyone. 此卷只装订不密封班级姓名准考证号考场号座位号You weren't allowed to take flash photographs as it scared them. At the same time the other half group carried out the same type of water activities, but with the absence of dolphins. Researchers want to find out the influence of water and the natural setting. All the study volunteers didn’t continue to take any drugs or psychotherapy ( 心理治疗) at least for weeks before the start of the study and did not take any drugs during the study, said the researchers from the division of clinical Psychiatry at t e the University of Leicester Medical School.By the end of the study, those people who swam with the dolphins had a greater average reduction in their depressive symptoms than those who did not.The researchers noted that the study supports the theory of biophilia, which thinks that human health and well-being depends partly on the human connection with the natural world. The findings appeared in the issue of the British Medical Journal.Coming from the Greek, biophilia means “love of life”, and it has been developed by biologists to reflect the humans’ natural tendency to connect with nature and animals, leading to interactions and positive emotions that result in psychological treatment.8.Why didn’t the volunteers take drugs before and during the study?A.Because the drugs had no effect at all.B.Because they didn’t want to take drugs.C.Because the result of study might be affected.D.Because they wanted to make the study easier.9.What can we infer from the text?A.We should often swim with dolphins.B.Nature and animals are important to human beings.C.Dolphins need to be protected by human beings.D.There are no effective drugs to treat depression.10.Which of the following statements about biophilia is TRUE?A.The English word means “love of life”.B.The biologists understand it in a new way.C.Actually we don’t use the word any longer.D.It’s a new way to swim with dolphins.11.What’s the main idea of the text?A.Swimming with dolphins can treat depression.B.Patients with depression like swimming with dolphins.C.What’s the relationship between dolphins and people?D.Dolphins are smarter than other animals.Hip-hop culture covers many fields; it includes spoken words, break-dancing, beat-making, painting, fashion, lively design, technology, and more. Hip-hop is becoming the unofficial music in the education world, as more artists launch school programs, summer camps, and other activities connected city youth in the classroom through the beliefs of hip-hop culture. Even more and more university teachers — who once would have been strongly against hip-hop — have joined the crew. In the past two decades, hip-hop culture, including hip-hop education, has become a legitimate(合法的) field of study in universities and the subject of numerous books.Hip-hop culture has influenced every piece of American and global culture because the culture is so prevalent. Teachers must be willing to engage in it if it's part of the unique reality of their students' lives. That way, teachers can truly be effective, reaching students in a meaningful, culturally connected way.Teachers might at first feel frightened by hip-hop culture, an area in which they might not have previous knowledge or experience. But a lack of knowledge is actually a blessing; the best trained hip-hop educators have been those that are at the beginning disconnected(分离的) from the culture. One of the biggest sayings in hip-hop is “keep it real”. If a teacher comes to the classroom and says, “I don' t know hip-hop, but I recognize that it's your culture and I want to learn,” the kids will teach the teacher, and then the students will be more willing to learn from that educator. Hip-hop is about a respect for youth culture.12.Those who once most probably disagree with hip-hop education are ___________.A.middle school teachers B.unofficial artistsC.the young living in cities D.university teachers13.The underlined word “prevalent” in Paragraph 2 most probably means ____________.A.familiar B.similarC.popular D.regular14.The author finds teachers’ lacking in hip-hop culture might be beneficial because _________.A.students will frighten teachers at schoolB.teachers can learn from students in the fieldC.teachers will connected the culture with lessonsD.teachers’ knowledge or experience will be enriched15.Who would the young like to learn from?A.Those who respect their culture.B.Those who are interested in music.C.Those who keep their character real.D.Those who are willing to learn from others.二、七选五To Live Truly in TodayHere are some suggestions on how we should truly live in today. 16.. If we’re out in the town, then the shops and other people will surround us. If we’re in our kitche n , then our kitchen appliances and the sunlight coming in through our window will surround us.Listen to those you meet. When we’re with other people and they’re talking, how often do we listen? 17.. We may be nodding, but our minds may be thinking of financial worries, or we may be waiting for the other person to finish their sentence so that we can jump straight in with what we have to say. By truly listening, you remain in the present with each passing word.19.. Each day, we have a number of things that we need to do, or that we’d like to do, or simply that we could d o. Focus on one day’s work at a time, rather than a number of days at once. Find all that needs to be done on that day, and nothing else. If something can be put off, then do so and replace it with something else that is more urgent. 20.. Focus on that, and nothing else.A.Focus on what has to be done today.B.To be will aware of the past and the future.C.We may even find ways to avoid it altogether.D.Unfortunately, we don’t seem to listen that much at all.E.Once you know what work is the most urgent, then do it.F.We must really hear what they have to say and not be distracted by our worries.G.No matter where we find ourselves, we are always surrounded by our immediate environment.三、完形填空I remember as a smart child when we met with either family or friends. But which side deserves sympathy more, the jobless or the still employed? On March 6,researche rs at a conference at the University of Cambridge heard data suggesting it's the latter.Brendan Burchell,a Cambridge sociologist, presented his analysis based on various surveys conducted across Europe. The data suggest that employed people who feel insecure in their jobs show similar levels of anxiety and depression as those who are unemployed. Although a newly jobless person's mental health may “bottom out” after about six months, and then even begin to improve, the mental state of people who are continuously worried about losing their jobs “just continues to get worse and worse,” Burchell says.Evolutionary psychologists support this theory by arguing that human beings feel more stressed during times of insecurity because they sense an immediate but invisible threat. Patients have been known to experience higher levels of anxiety, for example, while waiting for examination results than knowing what they are sufferi ng from —even if the result is cancer. It's better to get the bad news and start doing somethingabout it rather than wait with anxiety. When the uncertainty continues, people stay in a nonstop “fight or flight” response, which leads to damaging stress. But not every employee in insecure industries has such a discouraging view,Burchell says.In general, women get on better. While reporting higher levels of anxiety than men when directly questioned, women scored lower in stress on the GHQ 12,even when they had a job they felt insecure about losing. As Burchell explains,“For women, most studies show that any job — it doesn't matter whether it is secure or insecure —gives psychological improvement over unemployment.” Burchell supposes that the difference in men is that they tend to feel pressure not only to be employed, but also to be the primary breadwinner, and that more of a man's selfworth depends on his job.32.Why do researchers think the still employed deserve sympathy more?A.They have to do more work since then.B.They have no chance to find better jobs.C.They have to work with inexperienced workers.D.They constantly worry about losing their jobs.33.What is most likely to cause a “fight or flight” response?A.Not having a paid job.B.Fierce competition for jobs.C.Not knowing what will happen.D.Pressure to work longer hours.34.What will the writer talk about following the last paragraph?A.Advice on preparing a job interview.B.Advice to those in insecure industries.C.Some knowledge of psychology.D.Differences in men and women.35.What could be the best title for the text?A.Is it Less Stressful to Get Laid Off Than Stay On?B.Should Greater Sympathy Be Given to the Jobless?C.Do Employees Bear More Stress Than Ever Before?D.Do Men or Women Show Higher Levels of Anxiety?第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)Living with strangers,or even friends, can be challenging, especially if it'syour first time to live away from your home.
